BN to stand alone in GE15, any pact later, says Mohamad Hasan
Posted by: superadmin - 12-18-2021, 10:22 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

SEREMBAN: Umno-led Barisan Nasional is steadfast in going alone and will not be tied with any other parties in the 15th general election, said its deputy president Mohamad Hasan.

He said this was because the government which would be formed after GE15 must be one which garners the biggest majority and which will ensure political stability. The stance is also in line with resolutions of the 2020 Umno general assembly not to cooperate with other parties.

“It is clear that Umno is taking the path to go alone in GE15 and would not be tied to any party. We do not want any alliance which could be binding but whatever negotiations or alliance would be done after GE15.

KUCHING: Pakatan Harapan suffered a huge setback in Sarawak after its mainstay DAP was crushed in the state elections while PKR was completely wiped out.

In the 2016 state election, DAP had won seven seats while PKR won three.

This time around, DAP only won two of the 24 seats it contested while PKR lost in all its 28 seats. Amanah, which contested eight seats, also failed to win a single one.

Umno unlikely to work with PN in Sabah for GE15, says Bung
Posted by: superadmin - 12-18-2021, 05:26 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: FMT-template-post-normal-800x500-new-logo-20211.jpg]

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Umno will not work with Perikatan Nasional (PN) in the next general election in line with the decision of the central leadership, said its chief, Bung Moktar Radin.

“We will go along with the leadership in the peninsula — if they have decided (not to work with PN), we will follow,” Bung told reporters after the Kinabatangan Umno divisional delegates meeting in Sandakan today.

When pressed why this was so considering they are part of the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) ruling state coalition, the Sabah Umno chief said: “The autonomy for Sabah Umno was only for the state elections (last year)”.

He was referring to the authority given to the party’s state leadership to choose its electoral partners in the previous state elections.

Don’t reopen mega PPVs, MMA tells govt
Posted by: superadmin - 12-18-2021, 04:30 PM - Forum: Covid-19 Pandemic - No Replies

[Image: PPV-Kepala-Batas-Penang-Bernama-170821.jpg]

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) has advised Putrajaya against reopening mega vaccination centres (PPVs), saying funds meant for this purpose should be used to strengthen the public healthcare system instead.

MMA president Dr Koh Kar Chai said there were 2,459 private centres already administering boosters nationwide, with an average of 130,000 jabs being given daily by them.

While the programme was going on smoothly, he noted that there was a high “dropout” rate in appointments for these booster jabs.

In a statement today, Koh said this hesitancy among recipients was what needed to be addressed first before reopening big facilities in order to improve the booster uptake.

PH to fare poorly in Sarawak polls, says analyst
Posted by: superadmin - 12-18-2021, 04:14 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: Anwar-Ibrahim-PKR-Pakatan-Harapan-FMT.jpg]

KUALA LUMPUR: Voters in Sarawak are set to reject Pakatan Harapan in the state polls today, increasing pressure on its chairman Anwar Ibrahim to step aside and forcing a rethink in strategy ahead of a general election that may be called next year.

The Sarawak elections are expected to present another major defeat for PH because the local parties that have controlled the state since independence are aligned with the federal government led by Umno.

The opposition was thrashed last month in another state elections in Melaka, thanks to an Umno campaign led by disgraced former prime minister Najib Razak who focused on reviving a pandemic-battered economy.

Najib criticised the opposition for harping on his corruption trials linked to troubled state fund 1MDB, although an appeals court upheld a guilty verdict soon after the polls.

Hold Umno polls after GE15, says party division in Kelantan
Posted by: superadmin - 12-18-2021, 01:44 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

PETALING JAYA: An Umno division in Kelantan has proposed that the party’s elections be deferred until after the next general election, taking into consideration political “harmony and stability”.

The call comes after Puteri Umno made a similar call, with 171 out of 180 divisions asking for the party polls to be deferred.

Pasir Putih Umno division chief Zawawi Othman said this would also enable party vice-president Ismail Sabri Yaakob to continue as prime minister without facing any problems.

He said the division members wanted the party to focus on governing the country and preparing for the coming general election.

In a statement, Zawawi said the Pasir Puteh grassroots also wanted the prime minister to take swift action against former central bank chief Zeti Akhtar Aziz, who was purportedly involved in the 1MDB scandal.

Warisan's peninsula expansion a 'positive' move
Posted by: superadmin - 12-18-2021, 01:38 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: 465118fcfbe51e3fa0caa45d027eb8d8.jpg=s800]

MP SPEAKS | DAP views the national launch of Warisan into Peninsular Malaysia positively as part of the electoral process of free democratic participation and further integration of the regions of Sabah with Peninsular Malaysia.

Warisan is following in the footsteps of Parti Bersatu Sabah to expand to the peninsular.

The national expansion of Warisan will inevitably result in the party adopting a Malaysian approach instead of the present Sabah-centric one. This is positive towards national integration as well as encouraging more nationally based parties to join DAP in fighting for Sabah interests.

Nationally based parties will help to promote Sabah within the national context in that Sabah problems are also Malaysian problems.

Warisan can restore unity of 70s to peninsula, says analyst
Posted by: superadmin - 12-18-2021, 01:32 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: chinese-malaysian-cny-bernama-270120-1.jpg]

PETALING JAYA: A political analyst has described Warisan’s expansion as a positive development that may restore the “lost idealism of unity” among Malaysians on the peninsula.

Azmi Hassan, a former Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) lecturer, told FMT the Sabah-based party would bring a “breath of fresh air” to Peninsular Malaysia, where, he said, the gap between the races had been growing wider.

“Sabahans are different,” he said. “If they say, ‘We want to promote Malaysia for Malaysians,’ people will believe them.

“Sabah is what the peninsula was in the 1970s, when people of all races visited one another and ate together. We were more united then.”

Yesterday, Warisan president Shafie Apdal launched the party’s Peninsular Malaysia chapter in preparation for the next general election (GE15).

Warisan on collision course with DAP and PKR?
Posted by: superadmin - 12-18-2021, 09:59 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

KOTA KINABALU: Warisan may be headed for a confrontation with DAP and PKR over seats to contest in the next general election following its decision to expand from Sabah to the rest of the country.

Analysts say Warisan will likely compete mostly for seats held by DAP and PKR since it will be hard for it to penetrate Malay-majority constituencies.

Oh Ei Sun of the Singapore Institute of International Affairs said Warisan would be, in relation to DAP and PKR, like Bersatu was now in relation to Umno.

“Malays uncomfortable with Umno for being too racial, with PAS for being too religious and with PKR for being too liberal would go for Bersatu,” he said.
