Muslim NGOs propose establishment of a Malay-Muslim gov’t without DAP

A COALITTION of Muslim non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in Selangor and Negeri Sembilan has urged leaders of Malay Muslim political parties to be open-minded enough to accept the agenda of unifying the ummah (Muslim solidarity) for the benefit of religion, the Malay race and nation.

After all, the outcome of Saturday’s (Aug 12) six state polls reflects the people’s desire in wanting to realise the unification of Malays and Muslims in the country, according to Gerakan Pembela Ummah (UMMAH) chairman Mohd Zai Mustafa.

Towards this end, the Muslim NGOs collation has proposed to establish a Malay Muslim government without DAP.

This, according to UMMAH, is justifiable considering that Malay-Muslim state assemblymen form the majority of Saturday’s (Aug 12) state polls winners regardless of whether they are from UMNO, PAS, Bersatu, Amanah or PKR.

“Royal pardon for Najib, part ways with UMNO”: KJ outlines Anwar’s options moving for

THE most important detail to emerge from last weekend’s six state elections is that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, through the Pakatan Harapan (PH)-Barisan Nasional (BN) alliance, had lost more ground among Malay voters.

According to the former UMNO Youth chief, the recent state polls have ended in a stalemate, at least on the surface, with the PH chairman facing “twin dilemmas” which will “shape Malaysian politics for the next few years”.

“His first dilemma is ideological. Will he stay true to his progressive and reformist platform or will he continue to push back against Perikatan Nasional by introducing more conservative policies?” Khairy wrote in an article on Singaporean portal Fulcrum.

“His base has reacted to the election results by urging Anwar to stop pandering to the ‘Malay right’ and focus on growing the economy, introducing reforms and championing multiculturalism.

“But with such a strong rebuke from Malay voters yet again, Anwar could be tempted to play it both ways: continue with ethnocentric overtures and programmes, and at the same time, hope the economy improves for ordinary Malaysians.”

Umno lost out because voters see it as inferior to others: analysts

PETALING JAYA – The failure of Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) to make inroads in the Malay heartland of Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu is due to a “revolution” by voters, said Universiti Malaya political analyst Awang Azman Awang Pawi.

Awang said the issue of race and religion was just a small part of why the PH/BN coalition did badly in the state elections.

He said many underprivileged and low-income Malay voters felt they were being left out of the Madani economy plans, and added that they were sending a message to the unity government that they too want a piece of the economic pie and success.

“The unity government needs to take a closer look at the Madani economy plan and make it a bit more Malay-centric to attract these voters.

“Low-income Malays, like farmers and fishermen, continue to face hardships, and feel that Perikatan Nasional (PN) might be able to help them, but they are actually hoping for more help from the federal government,” he said.
