DAP treasurer Prof Ong Kian Ming has hailed International Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz who turned up to campaign and ensuring that DAP’s Sungai Pelek candidate Lwi Kian Seong won in the Malay majority state constituency during the recent six state polls.
This is because Sungai Pelek is a 60% Malay majority seat while DAP fielded a local Chinese candidate against a relatively well-known Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate Suhaimi Mohd Ghazali who was a former local UMNO leader.
“The cooperation between PH and BN at the leadership and grassroots level was also enhanced by the presence of state and national leaders campaigning together in N56 Sungai Pelek,” the former Bangi MP pointed out in a media statement to illustrate Sungai Pelek as good example of Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional (PH-BN) cooperation.
“I experienced this when MITI Minister Tengku Zafrul came to Sungai Pelek to campaign for the PH candidate Lwi Kian Seong together with Ng Sze Han, the DAP Selangor state secretary who was recently sworn in as Selangor EXCO.

PETALING JAYA: An Umno leader has criticised Sanusi Nor for taking on eight portfolios in the Kedah executive council, saying the menteri besar should have delegated more of the duties to his exco members.
Umno Supreme Council member Puad Zarkashi told FMT that Sanusi’s duties should be to set the state’s course and policies, describing it as excessive for him to chair eight committees.
“Sanusi should be focusing on two important portfolios, namely land resources and finance. These portfolios are important so he can control the state’s direction and policies.
“Can Sanusi focus on the numerous tasks at hand? Don’t forget that, because he was so occupied previously, he was unaware about the rare earths theft (in Kedah) as the chairman of Menteri Besar Kedah Incorporated (MBI Kedah),” he said.

Selangor exco racial mix shows Malays in charge, say analysts |

PETALING JAYA: The racial composition of the new Selangor executive council, with only two Chinese among the 10 exco members, could be a move to send a message that the Malays are still in charge, according to political analysts.
Seven of the 10 are Malays. The three others are Ng Sze Han, Ng Suee Lim and Papparaidu Veraman, all from DAP.
Political analyst Azmi Hassan of Akademi Nusantara said the exco lineup could be aimed at dispelling fears that the Chinese, through DAP, are in charge of the government, a perception used by PAS and Bersatu in the state election campaigns this month.

China to coordinate support to resolve local govt debt risks |

BEIJING: China will coordinate financial support to resolve local government debt problems, the central bank said in a statement today, as policymakers look to shore up an increasingly shaky economic recovery and reassure worried investors.
The statement, following a joint meeting on Friday by the People’s Bank of China (PBOC), the country’s top financial regulator and the securities regulator, comes amid growing concerns that China’s deepening property crisis is starting to spill over into its financial system.
China unexpectedly lowered several key interest rates earlier last week in a bid to shore up activity and it is expected to cut its prime loan rates on Monday, but analysts say moves so far have been too little, too late, with much more forceful measures needed to stem the economy’s downward spiral.

YOURSAY | This is no reformist govt |

Apanama is back: Lawyers for Liberty director Zaid Malek, what ‘reformist’ government? This is not a reformist government for the last nine months.
Of course, there were some selective so-called reforms. But since Umno is in the coalition, reforms could mean premature death.
The Madani administration will go on “business as usual” like during the BN/Umno era. Deep state and little Napoleons will keep on having their days. More on the way.
In fact, the just concluded six state elections sent a crystal-clear message to the Madani administration on who is actually running the show.
Nothing will change, Zaid, nothing. All the infamous laws are here to stay. Security Offences (Special Measures) Act (Sosma), Sedition Act, Section 233, Printing Presses and Publication Act, among others.
If things go on in this way in the next four years, I can anticipate that we will have a PAS president in Putrajaya as the prime minister.
At least the other side is not pretentious. If they enforce clothing codes, they already say so. If they enforce banning four-digit numbers and drinking alcohol, among others, they already said so.
Unlike the current administration, they talk about reforms but do something else. This is even worse than the other side.
Zaid, you and I got short-changed by this so-called “death reform” administration. I hope voters will punish this administration in the 16th general election.
