Can rakyat raise questions about government, asks Ramkarpal |

PETALING JAYA: After the new law on fake news came into effect, Bukit Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh has listed several questions today, asking if they would be considered offences under the newly implemented ordinance.
Earlier this evening, de facto law minister Takiyuddin Hassan had denied that the government sought the emergency proclamation because it had lost the majority in Parliament, calling such claims “fake news” and saying they were offences.
In reply, Ramkarpal asked whether it would be an offence if the rakyat were to question if the government had the majority support of MPs.
“Is it wrong to ask if this might be connected to the government’s advice to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to declare an emergency?,” he asked.

I think I'm goin' back
To the things I learned so well in my youth
I think I'm returning to
The days when I was young enough to know the truth
Now there are no games
To only pass the time
No more coloring books
No Christmas bells to chime
But thinking young and growing older is no sin
And I can play the game of life to win
I can recall a time
When I wasn't ashamed to reach out to a friend
And now I think I've got
A lot more than a skipping rope to lift
Now there's more to do
Than watch my sailboat glide
Then everyday can be my magic carpet ride
And I can play hide and seek with my fears
And live my days instead of counting my years
Let everyone debate the true reality
I'd rather see the world the way it used to be
A little bit of freedom, is all we're left
So catch me if you can
I'm goin' back

YOURSAY | Self-interest is Azmin-PN’s only ‘interest’ |

Goliath: Senior Minister Azmin Ali, one of the main reasons why Perikatan Nasional (PN) is in such disunity is the fact that you and your band of Pakatan Harapan defectors had joined Bersatu. There were red eyes across the cabinet due to the fact that you were the one who initially destroyed Umno’s reputation in the last general election, pointed out the corruption in the BN government, thrashed PAS in its extremism views, and made a mockery of the entire BN component parties.
Yet here you are walking side by side with the prime minister, given a high-ranking position - the deputy PM seat is just within your reach - and given privileges by the main man not accorded to the rest of the Umno members.
Azmin, you should first provide a full public apology, tell the voters you had lied in the last general election about these parties and relinquish this high position of yours to your so-called Umno friends.
And maybe, just maybe, you can then be the agent of unity to this government that is not elected by the people.

Incoming Teen Vogue editor Alexi McCammond apologizes again for anti-Asian tweets |

New York (CNN Business)Teen Vogue's newly appointed editor in chief isn't slated to start until March 24, but she has already issued two apologies this week and has drawn the ire of her soon-to-be staff, advertisers and celebrities.
Alexi McCammond, who was a political reporter at Axios before being appointed to lead the Condé Nast-owned progressive magazine last week, tweeted a lengthy apology on Wednesday addressing concerns over racist, anti-Asian tweets she sent in 2011 and 2012. The apology follows one that she issued Monday over the same controversy.
McCammond's hiring came amid a rise of attacks against Asians and Asian Americans and sparked outrage internally and externally to Teen Vogue.
"This has been one of the hardest weeks of my life, in large part because of the intense pain I know my words and my announcement have caused so many of you," McCammond wrote on Twitter and Instagram. "I am so sorry to have used such hurtful and inexcusable language. At any point in my life, it's totally unacceptable. I hear that you're hurt, angry, confused, and skeptical of how we move on from here. I probably would be too if I were you."
At the heart of the debate is a series of tweets McCammond posted when she was a college student in which she mocked the appearance of Asian eyes and expressed resentment over bad marks on an assignment given by an Asian teacher.
McCammond apologized for the tweets before, when they surfaced in 2019 while still employed at Axios. The tweets resurfaced again over the weekend after Condé Nast announced her hiring on Friday. On Monday, a group of more than 20 Teen Vogue staff members sent a letter to management expressing concerns about McCammond's past tweets.
Then on Wednesday, the Asian American Journalists Association (AAJA) weighed in with a statement that called on Condé Nast "to ensure its commitment to Asian American and Pacific Islander communities and employees." AAJA said they spoke with McCammond and Condé Nast's chief diversity officer on Wednesday and "look forward to continuing our dialogue."
The controversy has also caught the attention of at least one major advertiser. Ulta Beauty has paused an ad campaign with Teen Vogue, The Daily Beast first reported.

KUCHING, March 12 ― DAP’s Mordi Bimol today rejected speculations on social media claiming he will be following in the footsteps of Julau MP Larry Sng and abandon the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition for Perikatan Nasional (PN).
The Mas Gading MP said the speculations that he switch his allegiance are completely false and aimed to tarnish his reputation as an Opposition parliamentarian.
“I am still firm as the DAP Member of Parliament and Pakatan Harapan and will continue to voice out the people’s problems, especially the people of Mas Gading whom I represent,” he said in a statement.
He said a minor health issue has affected his recent performance, but not his principle.

PETALING JAYA: Women’s rights groups claim that better female representation in government will result in fairer and more inclusive policymaking.
Karen Lai, executive director of the Women’s Centre for Change Penang, and Women’s Aid Organisation spokesman Hannah Jambunathan told FMT they believed that quotas for women in legislative bodies would be a good start towards achieving equality in leadership.
According to the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Malaysia currently ranks 145th in the world in female representation in Parliament, with a mere 14.9% of parliamentary seats and 13.6% of senatorships held by women. This puts Malaysia second last in Southeast Asia, ahead of only Brunei.
Lai said female representation should be “non-negotiable” and that research by the US-based National Democratic Institute indicated that female legislators tended to emphasise quality of life, families and minorities, and were more likely to work across party lines.

Is new fake news law meant to silence politicians, asks Umno man |

PETALING JAYA: Umno Supreme Council member Mohd Razlan Rafii has questioned Putrajaya whether the new fake news law related to Covid-19 and the state of emergency was to silence politicians and prevent them from debating current issues.
He said a law to control fake news related to the Covid-19 pandemic was understandable as health was important.
“However, why can’t we talk about other current issues? Is it to shut up politicians? Are they trying to curb healthy discussions?” he asked.
The ordinance, which takes effect today, applies to all media forms “capable of suggesting words or ideas”, such as news features, videos and audio material.

The challenge of wiping out racism from 21st century Malaysia |

Quote:The fact is that the Malaysian political architecture is dominated by Malay politicians who have used race to consolidate power for more than 50 years.
Race has been deeply embedded into all key policies and all Malaysians have thereby been racialised.
This has in turn legitimised institutionalised racism across all spheres of public life. Malaysia today stands out as perhaps among the most chronic global examples of institutionalised racism.
More than six decades after independence from the British, Malaysia continues to struggle to weave an inclusive social fabric for its racially diverse citizens.
Every right thinking Malaysian should give strong support to the National Unity Policy (NUP) and National Unity Blueprint 2021-2030 recently launched by the prime minister for they seek to promote racial harmony and foster a national identity.
The noble vision and aspirations outlined in the NUP are much needed. The policy and blueprint provide a long overdue opportunity for an honest conversation among us about the obstacles standing in the way of national unity.

Jin Shin Jyutsu Mediator Self Help to Calm |

Jin Shin Jyutsu Mediator
Something happens or someone says something and I find myself reacting badly. Or I overreact. I just can’t help myself! Not only that: insignificant things become big issues, and I am left feeling mentally, emotionally and physically drained. The good news is that harmony can be restored with this Jin Shin Jyutsu Mediator self help exercise.
But first: A bit about the ‘Trinity’ energies
Mediator energies are very closely related to the Trinity. These are Main Central and Left and Right Supervisor energies.
Main Central is the energy that connects each one of us to the Universal Source of Life. It flows down the front and up the back of the body in an oval, keeping us harmonized with source energy. I often describe it as the trunk of the tree. Because of this, it regenerates all of our other individualized energy functions. To harmonize Main Central you can simply do the Main Central Exercise.
If Main Central is the trunk of the tree, then the Left and Right Supervisors are the two main branches. The Left Supervisor ‘supervises’ the left side energies. It flows down the front and up the front of the left side also in an oval pattern. The same happens on the right side of the body. There is a simple exercise to harmonize the Left and Right Supervisors.
So again, Main Central along with the Left and Right Supervisors form The Trinity.
On to the Diagonal Mediators
The Diagonal Mediator Energies ensure that the left and right side energies of the body are in balance. In essence, they ‘mediate’ between the two sides, making sure that left and right side are also in harmony with Main Central.
Mary Burmeister wrote: “It is of vital importance to keep [The Mediator] functioning properly for the total supply of energy to the whole man.”
What happens when Mediator is not harmonized?
Mary also said that ‘this energy is the cause for disharmony in the body’. Let’s look at that in more detail.
Fundamentally, attitudes are at the root of all disharmony. By attitudes I mean Worry, Fear, Anger, Sadness and Trying To’s (or Efforting).
These attitudes are born at the level of the Mediator energy.
The way I see it is that we all experience emotions such as Worry, Fear, Anger, Sadness and Trying To’s – we are human after all. It’s when we get ‘stuck’ in one of these emotions that they become an ATTITUDE.
How does that feel, to get ‘stuck in an emotion’? Well, I feel angry all the time. I am reactive and I overreact. I worry all the time and I just can’t stop. I’m anxious about everything. The smallest thing makes me cry. Life isn’t fair! Life isn’t fun! And on and on. You get the picture.
It’s pretty draining, isn’t it? Can’t think straight, let alone find the energy to function optimally from day to day.
Exhaustion is also a good indicator that mediator is overloaded.
Jin Shin Jyutsu Mediator also helps
So apart from balancing the emotions, it also helps take fatigue out of the body. Great for allergic reactions, especially if they affect the nose and eyes. Use it when your shoulders are tight and achey.
