PUTRAJAYA: Former Barisan Nasional secretary-general Annuar Musa is continuing to push for Umno, PAS and PPBM to work together in the next general election, saying their alliance could see them win 149 seats.
In an interview with TV Pertiwi last night, Annuar said cooperation among the three Malay parties would also prevent three-cornered fights.
The federal territories minister also said he was confident that all issues and seat disputes among the three parties can be resolved by their respective presidents.
He said 149 of the 222 parliamentary seats in the country are Malay-majority areas.

PETALING JAYA: Talk of a new political alignment between Umno and PKR is being seen as proof that there are no permanent enemies in politics, while some political analysts believe Umno grassroot members may not accept such a union.
Political strategist Syed Arabi Idid said PKR leader Anwar Ibrahim has to overcome several public perceptions of him, following his claims in September last year of having majority support in the Dewan Rakyat and being able to form a government.
“People may think Anwar is making claims again, this time to stop MPs of his party from crossing to Perikatan Nasional.
However, if Anwar were to be seen with Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, then he could be viewed as having tangible support, says Syed Arabi.

Shunned by Umno, Bersatu’s survival now rests with PAS, say analysts |

KUALA LUMPUR, March 16 — Umno’s decision to withdraw its support for the coalition led by Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia will pull large swathes of the Malay vote away from the splinter group to deal a blow powerful enough to decimate the young party at the next general election, analysts said.
Bersatu was founded with the initial aim of breaking Umno’s grip on rural and conservative Malay votes but has seen marginal success.
Since its formation, the party has made little progress to counter Umno’s clout, having to contend with a smaller supporter base of mostly disgruntled former members of its sister party with no grassroots support.
Umno and PAS on the other hand amassed up to 70 per cent of the Malay vote at the 2018 general election, with the former enjoying the lion’s share. Hawkish Umno leaders have used this to pressure Bersatu into giving way.

Putrajaya to contest High Court decision invalidating 1986 ban on ‘Allah’ use by Christians
KUALA LUMPUR, Mar 15 — The federal government gave notice today that it will appeal against last week’s High Court ruling that annulled a directive prohibiting Christians from using the word “Allah” in their religious education and books.
The notice of appeal dated March 12 was filed at the Court of Appeal in Putrajaya and copied to lawyers for Sarawakian Jill Ireland Lawrence Bill who initiated the judicial review that led to the High Court ruling.
Solicitor-General Datuk Abdul Razak Musa confirmed the filing of the appeal.
A copy of the notice of appeal, undersigned by senior federal counsel Shamsul Bolhassan, was also extended to the Registrar of the KL High Court (Appellate & Special Powers).
Jill Ireland has been named a respondent in the suit while both the Malaysian government and the Home Ministry were named appellants.

Pele congratulated Cristiano Ronaldo after the Portugal forward's hat-trick against Cagliari took him past the Brazilian legend's tally of goals scored in official matches
Ronaldo netted three times inside the opening 32 minutes to take his career total to 770 - three clear of Pele's tally of 767.
"Life is a solo flight. Each makes his own journey. And what a beautiful journey you are having. I admire you a lot, I love watching you play and this is no secret to anyone. Congratulations on breaking my record of goals in official matches," Pele posted on Instagram
.
Some reports suggest this is a world record tally but that is disputed by the Czech Football Association, which claims former Austria and Czechoslovakia striker Josef Bican is football's true all-time top scorer with 821 goals.
Meanwhile, data from Rec.Sport.Soccer Statistics Foundation (RSSSF) says Bican scored 805 career goals. But among them were 27 goals for Rapid Vienna's reserve and amateur teams, as well as strikes which were not in official international games. Remove those and Bican finished his career on 759 goals - short of Pele and Ronaldo's total.
