White supremacy and hate are haunting Asian Americans
Posted by: superadmin - 03-18-2021, 03:48 PM - Forum: Stop Racism and Religious Bigotry - No Replies

(CNN)In one sense, it's immaterial whether the accused killer in the Atlanta spa shootings admits to a racist motivation. Asian Americans, already traumatized by a rising tide of hate, violence and rhetoric, have been living in fear for months.

The murders of eight people, including six Asian women, among them four South Koreans, further disoriented and horrified a community already unfairly stigmatized by racial association during a pandemic that originated in China. And they laid bare for the rest of the country the agony of yet another minority group left to question its place in America, at a time of rising attacks and harassment amid cresting White nationalism and domestic extremism.

Many Asian Americans feel exposed by a torrent of dangerous and racially motivated rhetoric by national figures on a cultural crusade. Most prominently that includes ex-President Donald Trump, who presided over four years of rising racial tensions and often used division as a tool of personal power.

Campaigners talk of a perfect storm of prejudice targeting the Asian American and Pacific Islander community that stirred latent hatreds as Covid-19 first arrived in the US, and was exacerbated by Trump's relish in flinging around terms like "China virus."

PETALING JAYA: Sarawak will continue to allow Christians in the state to use “Allah”,
Posted by: superadmin - 03-18-2021, 03:41 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

PETALING JAYA: Sarawak will continue to allow Christians in the state to use “Allah”, as the nation continues to debate over the usage of the Arabic term for God.

In a statement, the office of the chief minister said its policy on religious tolerance in Sarawak remained consistent since the time of Abang Johari Openg’s two predecessors.

There has never been any restriction on the use of the word “Allah” by Christians in Sarawak, it said.

“The Gabungan Parti Sarawak government will continue to defend and preserve Sarawak’s religious tolerance as it is the core unifying factor for the people in the state,” it said in a statement.

PKR MP says his son was called to get him to quit party
Posted by: superadmin - 03-18-2021, 03:35 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

PETALING JAYA: Following failed attempts to get him to switch sides, PKR’s M Karupaiya claims his family members are now being approached to persuade him to quit his party and support Perikatan Nasional (PN).

Speaking to FMT, Karupaiya said his son received a call yesterday.

“After I said I was not interested (in the incentives), they talked to my son and asked him to approach me to change my mind.

“But my son told them ‘even if you give him RM50 million, he won’t be going anywhere’.”

Miri MP joins list of PKR reps claiming enticed to leave party
Posted by: superadmin - 03-18-2021, 03:10 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

KUALA LUMPUR, March 18 — Miri MP Dr Michael Teo Yu Keng appears to be the latest lawmaker from PKR who have claimed they were actively wooed to quit their parties and support the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government.

In a statement today, Dr Teo claimed that there have been multiple attempts over “several months” to coax him to leave PKR and betray party president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, but asserted said he would not quit the Opposition party.

He also called on all PKR members, leaders and supporters to continue backing it.

“I have received various offers from certain parties who are trying to undermine the democratic process in our country through the installation of a morally corrupt and weak back door government that grabbed power a year ago via a parliamentary coup d'etat,” he said referring to the French term that signifies the seizing of a government's power.

Younger officers conspiring against me, IGP claims

KUALA LUMPUR, March 18 — Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador claimed yesterday of a so-called conspiracy within the force to remove him from his post.

Hamid told Sinar Harian that the alleged group of younger police officers are purportedly masterminds behind a cartel that aims to control the police force for their own purposes.

“There have been efforts that are disgraceful done by this group to bring me down.

“So I am advising now, stop all this nonsense. This police force is not anyone’s for the taking. We are not fighting over a playing field,” he said during an event held by the Malay daily.

Perikatan’s appeal of ‘Allah’ ruling could cost Sabah, Sarawak partners, say analysts
Posted by: superadmin - 03-18-2021, 10:32 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

KOTA KINABALU, March 18 — The Perikatan Nasional government’s move to appeal a High Court ruling that effectively allows Christians to use the word “Allah” may have lasting repercussions despite the obvious benefits of shoring up its Malay-based support.

While political analysts believe the appeal was predictable in order to get more majority Malay-Muslim support, it may alienate Sabah and Sarawak voters ahead of an expected early general election.

“Such a move will only affect the non-Muslims Kadazandusun and Dayak support for the Sabah and Sarawak state government,” said University Malaysia Sabah political analyst Romzi Tiong.

“Rumours are spreading which suggests that the Bumiputera non-Muslim are increasingly interested in supporting other parties if GRS and GPS are unable to ensure such decision does not further hurt them... this certainly makes them uneasy, thus may make the necessary effort to systematically dealt with the issue,” he said.
