KUALA LUMPUR, March 31 — Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia and PAS will maintain their political cooperation through Perikatan Nasional into the 15th general election (GE15), the two parties’ secretaries-general announced today.
The decision will leave nominal ally Umno alone following the Malay nationalist party’s decision to reject Bersatu at the general election.
According to a statement from Bersatu’s Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuiddin and PAS’s Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan, this was decided in a meeting involving the presidents of both parties yesterday.
“Bersatu and PAS reject any formation of a ‘new alignment’ to form the government after GE15, especially involving PH (Pakatan Harapan) and its allies,” the two said.

Two US Capitol Police officers sue Trump and say he should be held responsible for January 6 attack
(CNN)Two US Capitol Police officers who say they were injured during the January 6 insurrection are suing former President Donald Trump for inciting the crowd.
The officers -- the first police to sue in court following the riot -- say they suffered physical and emotional damages because Trump allegedly "inflamed, encouraged, incited (and) directed" the violent mob that stormed the Capitol.
Capitol Police Officers James Blassingame and Sidney Hemby, who have been with the force for a combined 28 years, said they were injured during the attack. Hemby "was crushed against the doors" of the Capitol, was "sprayed with chemicals" and bled from his face, the lawsuit says. Blassingame claims he was slammed against a stone column, injuring his head and back.
Each of the officers are seeking at least $75,000 in damages. They accuse Trump of aiding and abetting their assaults and directing his supporters to assault them, according to their new complaint.

PETALING JAYA: It may be difficult for many to imagine that a brilliant lawyer who became the country’s youngest MP in 1959 would die without a cent to his name, but this was the case for Karam Singh Veriah.
He could have amassed a fortune as a lawyer in a young nation but chose instead to live a life fighting for the oppressed, regardless of race or nationality.
For this, he was made an enemy of the state, incarcerated in Malaysia and thrown out of India after he had gone there to settle down.
“He was truly the rakyat’s man, the people’s champion,” historian Ranjit Singh Malhi told FMT.

MUAR, March 30 — PAS wants to continue to be a bridge that unites Umno and Bersatu in an effort to ensure that the cooperation between the three parties will continue until the 15th General Election (GE15).
PAS central working committee member Datuk Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali said PAS hoped that the three parties could sit down and discuss to ensure that the efforts to unite the ummah was continued and at the same time be able to remain at the helm of the country.
Mohd Khairuddin, who is also Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister, said this after launching the Bamboo Industry National Conference and Bamboo Plantation Groundbreaking Ceremony at Pagoh Campus of the Universiti Tun Hussein Onn here today.
He said this when asked to comment on the decision of the 2020 Umno General Assembly last Saturday which passed a resolution on no cooperation with Bersatu in GE15.

Rapport: Malaysian, Indonesian IS supporters call for more violence after terror attack in Makassar
KUALA LUMPUR, March 31 — Indonesian and Malaysian supporters of the Islamic State terrorist group called on Monday for further attacks in Indonesia following a bombing in Makassar, Indonesia, the South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported.
According to the news report, the calls on social media platforms were made following an attack which involved a newlywed couple, who carried out a suicide bombing at a cathedral in South Sulawesi on Sunday, during what is considered a holy period for Christians and Muslims — a week before Easter, and in the run-up to the month of Ramadan.
Analysts including Muh Taufiqurrohman, senior researcher at the Jakarta-based Centre for Radicalism and Deradicalisation Studies (Pakar), said through its monitoring of closed groups on social media, it found that the calls came from online groups in Indonesia and one from Malaysia.
“They also called for more powerful bombs to be used,” he said.

Muhyiddin says Perikatan administration intact, Umno leaders to stay in Cabinet for nation’s good
KUALA LUMPUR, March 31 — Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said he has managed to convince Umno ministers to remain in his Cabinet for the benefit of the country, following a meeting with them on Monday.
Muhyiddin met the Umno ministers a day after their party decided at its annual assembly to end the political cooperation with his Bersatu and eventually withdraw support for his Perikatan Nasional administration.
“I had advised them to continue staying on in the Cabinet. This is taking into account the interest of the people and the country,” Muhyiddin said in a statement.

YOURSAY | The reason why Umno hates DAP |

Iammi: If DAP is what it takes to put fear in Umno leaders from being involved in 1MDB, SRC and other scandals, then so be it.
Fear in God appears not to work for these people. We, the rakyat, will continue to back DAP. Even Malays like me will turn our back to Umno.
IndigoKite6964: @Iammi, if you fear an adversary, it is only because he/she is a worthy opponent. If Umno fears DAP that much, then in the same breath, they concede the possibility that DAP is capable of ruling.
Frankly, I see only political parties that represent the entire scope of Malaysians will survive, and they are the appropriate parties to rule Malaysia.
The Chinese have abandoned MCA because they realise that being part of a coalition with all the races represented only to be dominated by one race isn’t going to be good for the country.
Is the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition a representation of Malaysian unity? Not even close. If anything, it represents Malaysia disunited.
Let's make Umno experience their fears. Let’s kick out all race and religion-based parties. Let bangsa Malaysia rule Malaysia. One thing for sure, if that happens, foreign direct investment (FDI) will come pouring in.
