PETALING JAYA: Vaccine minister Khairy Jamaluddin has been urged to reveal the full details of the RM70 million allocated for the national immunisation programme’s (PICK) data integration and appointment system.
Kampung Tunku assemblyman Lim Yi Wei said Khairy should reveal the vendor, project manager, lead tech and developer behind the PICK system, and also provide details on the firm’s credentials.
She also asked how much of the RM70 million had been spent so far and why the Covid-19 vaccine supply access guarantee special committee (JKJAV)’s hotline and email helpdesk were not responding to the public.
“Vaccines are a life-saving right. Regardless of the RM70 million being a ceiling (price), the people deserve answers. Reveal the website tender details now,” the DAP assemblyman said in a statement today.

PUTRAJAYA: The home ministry has refused to accept a memorandum from a group of Pakatan Harapan representatives calling for an independent taskforce to investigate the deaths of A Ganapathy and S Sivabalan.
Klang MP Charles Santiago (DAP), Selayang MP William Leong (PKR), Sentosa assemblyman Gunaraj George (PKR), Rawang assemblyman Chua Wei Kiat (PKR) and Taman Templer assemblyman Sany Hamzan (Amanah) waited for more than an hour outside the ministry’s gates after being prevented from entering the compound.
They finally left the copies of their memorandum on the ministry’s gates before leaving.
“We are leaving the memorandum here as a sign of protest,” declared Leong.

- In 2020 — one of the three hottest years on record — the global average temperature was 1.2 °C above the pre-industrial baseline.
The likelihood of the planet reaching a key temperature limit within the next five years has doubled, according to a study by climate scientists, with the world on track to witness the hottest year on record in that same time frame.
“There is about a 40% chance of the annual average global temperature temporarily reaching 1.5° Celsius (2.7 degrees Fahrenheit) above the pre-industrial level in at least one of the next five years — and these odds are increasing with time,” the World Meteorological Organization said on Thursday. The WMO, a specialized agency of the United Nations, said this had doubled from 20% in the last decade.

PETALING JAYA: A restaurant association has questioned the wisdom of requiring eateries to close by 8pm under the current movement control order.
Malaysian Indian Restaurant Owners Association president J Suresh said the restriction served only to inconvenience restaurant operators, food delivery services and customers.
“It is difficult for the operators as they will have to take their last orders by 7pm before rushing to close their restaurants,” he told FMT. “The rush hour orders will make it impossible for us to close by 8pm.”
Suresh said the restrictions would also endanger the lives of food delivery riders because they would have to rush to fulfil their final orders.
He urged the government to extend operating hours for the take-out option to 10pm, saying this might prevent a rush.
“I suggest the government look into this matter seriously and allow restaurants to operate until at least 10pm.”
A Grab spokesman said the number of e-hailing riders available for deliveries was sufficient.
“Apart from the e-hailing riders, we also have GrabCar drivers delivering food orders,” she told FMT.

PETALING JAYA: The government can lock down its people, but it must not lock down democracy, says Dewan Rakyat deputy speaker Azalina Othman Said.
Azalina said denying the rights of MPs to engage with the government meant denying the rights of the people.
In a statement, she called for the government to invest in holding a virtual Parliament during the emergency, saying there was no way for the country to move forward unless Parliament was allowed to reconvene.
She also said that she recently “had a chat” with health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, who had “no objection to Parliament reconvening virtually”.
“We have already suffered enough trade-offs by compromising basic democratic and individual rights for the sake of a public health crisis,” she said.
Azalina also said any public mistrust must be handled through public debate, as building the people’s confidence during this time was essential in keeping everyone safe.
To address the trust deficit surrounding Covid-19 policies, she said, all MPs should be mobilised as “agents of communication and public health information disseminators” to help the government.

Cloudy skies in Singapore left many disappointed on Wednesday (May 26) as the much anticipated super flower blood moon was obscured by a hazy veil. Elsewhere, stargazers were treated to a rare cosmic show.

PETALING JAYA: When Vijaya Kasinathan made her GrabFood order earlier this month, she made a mistake and then shrugged it off, not expecting the meal to come. Not only did her meal arrive, but it came with a side of kindness and compassion.
After ordering her dinner on her way out of Menara PGRM in Cheras, where she works, she realised once she arrived home in Bandar Kinrara that she had accidentally sent her dinner to her office address.
“When I realised what I’d done, I told the delivery boy not to worry and just keep the food,” she told FMT.
“But then he said he felt bad that I had nothing to eat that night and offered to send it all the way to my house, for free. I was bowled over.
“I told him that if he was still willing to come, to take care of his other orders first and only come when it was convenient.”
And yet, a little over half an hour later, he was at her door with the Madam Kwan’s she had ordered.

- Posters for cryptocurrency exchange service Luno — shown across the London Underground network and on London buses this year — contained a cartoon image of a bitcoin with the words “If you’re seeing Bitcoin on the Underground, it’s time to buy.”
- The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) said that the ads must not appear again in their current form and that they failed to highlight the risks.
- It has told Luno to ensure that its future marketing communications make “sufficiently clear that the value of investments in bitcoin was variable and could go down as well as up.”
LONDON — An advertising campaign telling people in the U.K. “it’s time to buy” bitcoin has been banned by the nation’s advertising regulator for being irresponsible and misleading.
