End prejudice against opposition, let’s have progressive democracy, says Umno VP
Posted by: superadmin - 08-25-2021, 09:37 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

PETALING JAYA: The prejudices against the opposition must be done away with and more progressive politics be adopted in the wake of the prime minister’s pact with Pakatan Harapan (PH), an Umno vice-president said today.

Mohamed Khaled Nordin added that the negative perception against the government must also change.

“Both sides are important players in a healthy democracy and are needed for better governance,” he said in a statement.

The country’s politics, the former federal minister said, must not remain in the old ways and there was a need to shift to a more open and progressive democracy.

He went on to express hope that the “huge step” taken by the prime minister would be followed with comprehensive action by both sides.

Umno’s Puad says ‘suicide’ to make Azmin DPM; Bersatu man slams reporting ‘lobbying’
Posted by: superadmin - 08-25-2021, 08:39 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: 26102020-KUL-_MOHD_PUAD_ZARKASHI_umno_meet-SYEDA.jpg]

KUALA LUMPUR – As speculations intensify over who will be appointed deputy prime minister, Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Mohd Puad Zarkashi said it is “suicide” to appoint Bersatu’s Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali for the post.

Puad highlighted the negative responses from netizens since Perikatan Nasional took over last year.

“Azmin’s image is always seen as negative, whether from a moral view or his performance. Appointing Azmin will be akin to committing suicide.

“Whichever MP withdraws support for Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob over the issue of (cabinet) posts, they will be seen as ‘budak jahat (naughty boys)’.”

The Umno man posted on Facebook that it is best to leave the deputy prime minister post vacant.

“Let it be vacant. It will be a checkmate for the lobbyists and those fighting over the post.

“Ismail Sabri is appointed prime minister according to the constitution so he doesn't need to fear threats of support withdrawal.

Is there a ploy to split PH, asks Johor DAP man
Posted by: superadmin - 08-25-2021, 05:07 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

PETALING JAYA: Johor DAP committee member Dr Boo Cheng Hau has questioned if three new opposition parties are sincere in wanting to work with Pakatan Harapan (PH).

This comes after Pejuang’s announcement that it will contest in 120 parliamentary seats, as the party, together with Muda and Sabah-based Warisan, look at ways to win GE15.

Boo also questioned if Warisan and Muda were planning to make it a three-cornered fight in Peninsular Malaysia.

“Are Pejuang, Warisan and Muda trying to split PH so that they can return to the Perikatan Nasional or Barisan Nasional coalition?” he said in a statement.

He pointed out that Pejuang was “after all, part of Umno and Bersatu”.

Anwar: Pakatan won’t make Ismail Sabri sweat in confidence vote

Anwar: Pakatan won’t make Ismail Sabri sweat in confidence vote if he keeps focus on Malaysians, Covid-19 fight

[Image: Mat-Sabu-Anwar-Ibrahim-Ismail-Sabri-n-Li...250821.jpg]

PUTRAJAYA, Aug 25 — Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim indicated that Pakatan Harapan would allow Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob an easy path through a confidence vote in Parliament if the prime minister committed to pro-Malaysian policies and managed the pandemic properly.

After a meeting with Ismail Sabri this evening, Anwar said it was a promising start and platform for the Opposition to discuss with the new government on matters that needed urgent attention.

Anwar said PH has agreed to help defuse the political tension if Ismail Sabri’s government focused on “pro-rakyat” programmes to help the poor and those who lost their jobs, managing the pandemic, and implementing financial assistance such as the loan repayment moratorium.

“So, in order to calm down and reduce the political temperature, that was agreed but we gave this issue so that it would be the emphasis and priority of the new prime minister.

“We agree that if this Covid and pro-rakyat emphasis is effective, this will not be a problem to ensure that the situation is more under control,” Anwar told the media after spending more than an hour meeting with Ismail Sabri at his office here today.

Anwar, together with DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng and Amanah president Mohamad Sabu, also said they would not make it difficult for Ismail Sabri in Parliament if the programmes were implemented and running.

He also said they would do the same if Ismail Sabri’s legitimacy was put to the test in Dewan Rakyat.

IPOH, Aug 25 — Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah praised Umno-led Mentri Besar Datuk Saarani Mohamad today for setting a precedent by reaching out to involve assemblymen from the Opposition Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition in state governance policies.

The Perak Ruler said he had decreed minimising partisan politics and Saarani’s initiative was laudable for prioritising the state’s development and social wellbeing.

“During the ceremony appointing the Kota Tampan state assemblyman as the Mentri Besar of Perak, I had decreed that our government set an example in minimising political disputes.

“Responding to the decree, the Right Honourable Mentri Besar when tabling the 2021 budget, announced an even allocation for all 59 members of the State Assembly, regardless of whether the members are from the opposition or the ruling party,” he said in his royal address while opening the first session of the fourth year of the 14th State Legislative Assembly at the Perak Darul Ridzuan Building here this morning.

  • Chinese companies wanting to go public — including overseas — must comply with two aspects of regulation, the vice minister for the country’s cybersecurity regulator said Tuesday.
  • One is the national laws and regulations, Cyberspace Administration of China vice minister Sheng Ronghua said. The other is ensuring the security of the national network, “critical information infrastructure” and personal data.

BEIJING — Chinese companies wanting to go public — including overseas — must comply with two main aspects of a wider set of regulations, the vice minister for the country’s cybersecurity regulator said Tuesday.

One is the national laws and regulations, Cyberspace Administration of China vice minister Sheng Ronghua said. The other is ensuring the security of the national network, “critical information infrastructure” and personal data.

The comments on the importance of these two rules in particular come as policy uncertainty this summer has essentially halted Chinese listings in the U.S., after a surge in overseas offerings earlier this year.

‘Suicidal’ to appoint Azmin as DPM, says Puad
Posted by: superadmin - 08-25-2021, 11:01 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

PETALING JAYA: It would be “suicidal” to appoint Gombak MP Azmin Ali as the deputy prime minister (DPM), says a member of the Umno Supreme Council.

Puad Zarkashi said the former Selangor menteri besar’s image was seen to be negative both in terms of morale and his performance since Perikatan Nasional (PN) became the government.

“According to netizens’ comments, Azmin’s image has been negative both in terms of morale and performance since PN became the government,” he said in a Facebook post.

“Appointing Azmin as DPM would be suicidal.”

Puad also felt that Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob should leave the DPM’s post vacant to stop certain individuals from lobbying or fighting for it.

Analysts: Deciding Cabinet lineup is Ismail Sabri’s first litmus test as PM
Posted by: superadmin - 08-25-2021, 10:55 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 25 — Deciding on a lineup of Cabinet members who are up to the job and appeasing his political “supporters” at the same time would be the first administrative challenge for Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob as the new prime minister, political pundits said.

More importantly, they said Ismail Sabri would need to navigate the demands of his own party Umno and its president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to ensure the new government remains stable with the backing of his party colleagues.

The pundits also stressed that Ismail Sabri’s lineup of ministers should include experienced and tactful leaders to keep conflict at a minimum, seeing as he only has a limited amount of time to govern before an election has to be called.

Ismail Sabri to present cabinet line-up at palace tomorrow
Posted by: superadmin - 08-25-2021, 09:58 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: 21082021_-_ISMAIL_SABRI_PM-9_-_SADIQ_ASYRAF_-12.jpg]

KUALA LUMPUR – The Yang di-Pertuan Agong will grant an audience to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob tomorrow for the latter to submit a list of candidates for cabinet positions.

According to sources familiar with the matter, the wrangling and last-minute lobbying for positions under the Bera MP’s stewardship is still ongoing and is expected to last until the 11th hour.

“The PM will submit his cabinet list by tomorrow and seek the Agong’s approval as part of the formalities.

“Only after the king has given the green light will Ismail Sabri contact said candidates to inform them of their respective posts and to check whether they would want to take it up.

“If anyone declines, there would be a back-up list for each position,” the source said.

The source who spoke on the condition of anonymity said the swearing-in ceremony for the ministers would be likely on Thursday so Ismail Sabri can chair his first cabinet meeting as prime minister on Friday.

PH to work on united front for GE15
Posted by: superadmin - 08-25-2021, 09:38 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: Lim-Guan-Eng-Anwar-Ibrahim-Mat-Sabu-twitter-271220.jpg]

PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Harapan will now focus on building on the support of the 105 MPs who chose to back the PKR president Anwar Ibrahim for the post of prime minister, according to an opposition leader.

Amanah communications director Khalid Samad said it was no small feat to get all 105 opposition MPs to back Anwar, adding that he believed they had the other side worried.

“We now want to make sure we can build on that and have a united front in place when we face GE15,” he told FMT.

“On social media, there are some people spreading rumours that Anwar got only 92 votes, that Dr Mahathir Moahamad and Warisan didn’t support him. This is obviously rubbish.”

Penang deputy chief minister P Ramasamy agreed with Khalid, saying PH must move on from the failed attempt at forming the government and build on its strengths.
