Do the job, no excuse now, Tok Mat tells Umno
Posted by: superadmin - 09-29-2021, 08:41 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

PETALING JAYA: Umno has no other choice but to perform and support the current government led by its vice-president Ismail Sabri Yaakob, party deputy president Mohamad Hasan said.

Mohamad, commonly known as Tok Mat. said the government must set everything aside to focus on jumpstarting the country, especially on economic recovery.

“We are in this government now. We must support this government, we no longer have any excuses, where before this, we could still point fingers.

“Now, what is next? What is next is to perform. What is next is that we must carry out our duties and do the job,” he said.

Those in government must ensure that priority is given to the people’s welfare. “What is important is food on the table and money in the pocket. If we can expedite that, then the new light (of this government) can shine on all Malaysians.”

Meng Wanzhou's return to China applauded by Japanese netizens

Meng Wanzhou's return to China applauded by Japanese netizens who compare it with Japan's surrender to US' oppression 30 years ago

[Image: 92a7d19e-b5e6-44bf-b09e-94bf22d17984.jpeg]

Meng Wanzhou's return to China on Saturday after nearly three years in detention in Canada has been applauded by Japanese netizens, who compared her return with Japan's quick surrender to the US' oppression over 30 years ago. Some believe that if Japan had made continued efforts like the Chinese government, the situation would be different nowadays.

An expert in international affairs told the Global Times that in order to serve the US' strategy, the Japanese government has sacrificed the most fundamental economic interests of its people, which is a total tragedy. If Japan would have been able to fight as courageously as China back then, today Japan might have an important role in the global politics and economy, instead of being generally regarded as a vassal state of the US.

Meng's return to China has triggered heated discussion on Japanese social media.

"China really has powerful national strengthen! Although there is no specific content from the judicial side, this time the US is a complete failure! 'This is not the way to deal with Chinese people' will surely become a buzzword this year," said one netizen.

"Three years of illegal detention[...] Huawei is not the second Alstom. The Earth is not a place where the US can do whatever it wants," said another.

Petrol supply: Army put on standby to ease fuel crisis
Posted by: superadmin - 09-28-2021, 07:25 PM - Forum: Business, Economy and Investment - No Replies

The Army is ready to help ease fuel supply problems after a fourth day of long queues and pump closures.

Up to 150 military tanker drivers will prepare to deliver to forecourts which have run dry because of panic buying.

The surge in demand came amid fears a driver shortage would hit fuel supply - which is plentiful at refineries.

The transport secretary said there were "tentative signs" of stabilisation in petrol stations and queues would start to reflect this in the coming days.

Grant Shapps said: "Once we all return to our normal buying habits... the quicker we get back to normality."

Meanwhile, the Petrol Retailers Association said there was some evidence that the number of motorists visiting petrol stations was slowly beginning to calm.

A mandate for meritocracy in leaders – Vasanthi Ramachandran
Posted by: superadmin - 09-28-2021, 06:35 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: mahathir_mohamad_the_vibes_pic_oct_2020.jpg]

LEADERS should always try to learn as much as they can from those who know more than they do, so that they speak and act more clearly. – Dwight D. Eisenhower

The definition of meritocracy is not up for negotiation. Nor for arbitrary interpretation. Leaders should be chosen on their merit, efficacy and intelligence. The surest sign of a country’s success is dependent on the leaders’ commitment to action plans that are merit-worthy.

As I write this, the Home Ministry has declared that health workers will report undocumented migrants to security forces if they show up for vaccination. Not surprisingly, the public is outraged as this move will cause the coronavirus to come back with a stronger virulence and infect innocent children and babies who are yet to be vaccinated.

This is exactly what the virus is looking for – a collaboration with the Home Ministry.  It has already mocked immigration controls and digital surveillance, and reached every nook and corner with a mission to infect all.

To combat this, National Immunisation Programme did the unthinkable “looking for a needle in haystack” search and is managing to weaken the virus’s proliferation. As more and hidden undocumented immigrants are being hunted down and vaccinated, we are getting closer and closer to ending this pandemic.

Now this sudden move to instil fear and push the unvaccinated back to their crowded home to breed the virus, will reverse the eight intense months of vaccine equity.

China asks local officials to prepare for ‘possible storm’ if Evergrande fails, WSJ
Posted by: superadmin - 09-28-2021, 06:25 PM - Forum: Business, Economy and Investment - No Replies

  • Local officials described the signals from Chinese authorities as “getting ready for the possible storm” and said the government told them they should only step in at the last minute to prevent spillover effects from Evergrande’s demise, the WSJ report said.
  • The report indicates that the central government may still have a limited appetite for bailing out the company, despite the global implications.

Chinese authorities have told local officials to prepare for a potential demise of heavily indebted property developer Evergrande, The Wall Street Journal reported Thursday.

Local officials described the signals from Chinese authorities as “getting ready for the possible storm” and said the government told them they should only step in at the last minute to prevent spillover effects from Evergrande’s demise, the WSJ report said.

The report indicates that the central government may still have a limited appetite for bailing out the company, despite the global implications. Fears about Evergrande not being able to make interest payments have grown in recent weeks and were seen as one of the causes for market sell-offs around the world Monday.

The company resolved payment on a local bond on Wednesday, helping to boost Asian markets. However, it is unclear if the company will pay interest due Thursday on its offshore bonds.

RM30 mil Seri Perdana renovations for safety, to uphold nation’s image to foreign VIPs’
[Image: seri_perdana_-_PMO_pic.jpg]

KUALA LUMPUR – The RM30 million renovations at Seri Perdana, the prime minister’s official residence, are necessary to ensure safety, as well as to preserve the country’s image during visits by key dignitaries.

The explanation by Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob comes after Datuk Mahfuz Omar (Pokok Sena-PH) sought justification for the spending at a time when Malaysians are reeling from the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.

In a parliamentary reply, the prime minister said the improvements include electrical wiring and mechanical work, as well as work on the air-conditioning systems and structural modifications to the official residential block.

Old and dilapidated furniture were replaced in accordance with the status of Seri Perdana, he said.

He said the progress of the renovations stood at 60% as of August 31. – The Vibes, September 28, 2021

Civil service’s culture of secrecy a big bane, says group
Posted by: superadmin - 09-28-2021, 04:22 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

PETALING JAYA: The implementation of the freedom of information (FOI) enactments have been inconsistent, according to the Centre for Independent Journalism (CIJ).

Its executive director, Wathshlah G Naidu, said the civil service must be fully equipped to implement the enactments.

“The civil service needs more capacity building and training to implement the enactments,” she said in a webinar titled “#MyRightToKnow in Times of Crisis” in conjunction with today’s UN International Day for Universal Access to Information.

Currently, there are two state enactments on freedom of information – the Freedom of Information (Selangor) Enactment 2011 (Enactment 8) and the Penang Freedom of Information Enactment 2010 (Enactment 16).
