We’re Malay nationalists, not supremacists, says Pejuang leader
Posted by: superadmin - 03-02-2022, 10:15 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

KOTA TINGGI: A Pejuang leader has sought to ward off any accusation that his party may be racist, saying it eschews Malay supremacist attitudes although it subscribes to Malay nationalism.

In an interview with FMT, Pejuang international affairs bureau chief Tariq Ismail Mustafa claimed Pejuang was more centrist than other Malay parties and said it hoped to win enough seats in the Johor elections to have a say in the formation of the state government.

“Yes, you can say we’re splitting Malay votes, but what Pejuang is trying to show is we are not taking sides,” he said.

The West's $1 trillion bid to collapse Russia's economy
Posted by: superadmin - 03-02-2022, 09:16 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

London (CNN Business)The West has responded to Russia's invasion of Ukraine with round after round of punishing sanctions. The latest salvo is designed to spark a banking crisis, overwhelm Moscow's financial defenses and tip the Russian economy into a deep recession.

Never before has an economy with the global importance of Russia's been targeted with sanctions at this level, according to analysts, who say there is now a high risk that Russia will face a financial crisis that pushes its largest banks to the brink of collapse.

Western officials have described their campaign as an economic war meant to punish President Vladimir Putin and turn the country he leads into an international pariah — even if it takes years for sanctions to destroy the defenses of Russia's "fortress economy."

"We will provoke the collapse of the Russian economy," French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire told a local news channel on Tuesday.

Russia's status as a global energy supplier will make that mission all the more difficult. Europe gets nearly 40% of its natural gas and 25% of its oil from Russia, and any disruptions to those exports would cause already elevated global prices to rise even further.

Johor PKR man urges Pakatan to refrain from naming its MB hopeful, focus on voters’ needs instead

JOHOR BARU, March 1 — A Johor PKR lawmaker today cautioned Pakatan Harapan (PH) leaders from being obsessed in naming the state’s mentri besar candidate for the upcoming polls.

Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Abdul Karim urged the coalition to instead focus on the people’s needs, adding that Johoreans are in urgent need to overcome the high cost of living.

He said Johoreans are not interested to know who the Johor mentri besar candidate is, as well as which party he belongs to.

“The price of daily necessities, especially the price of essential food items, has reached an unbearable level for the common man.

Putrajaya must respond to foreign court ordering it to pay RM63 bil to Sulu Sultanate

Putrajaya must respond to foreign court ordering it to pay RM63 bil to Sulu Sultanate heirs: Leiking

KOTA KINABALU – The RM63 billion claim made by the descendants of now defunct Sulu Sultanate must be answered by Putrajaya, said Warisan deputy president Datuk Darell Leiking.

Speaking to The Vibes, the Penampang MP said that the issue is not something that Kota Kinabalu can reply directly as it is a federal matter, after the public received deafening silence from Sabah’s political circles.

“This is not a case for Sabah to handle because matters involving sovereignty, international representation for Malaysia and security matters are all under the federal government.

“The most is in Parliament which is now ongoing and the MPs could question what is the government going to do.

“I think the federal government should respond to this,” said Leiking, adding that Sabah itself does not have a foreign affairs ministry.

Earlier, a Malaysiakini article stated that yesterday, Spanish news website La Información reported that Spanish arbitrator Gonzalo Stampa had issued an award of RM62.59 billion in an arbitration court in Paris, France.

MP slams Mas Ermieyati for ‘senseless excuse’ on 1MDB probe
Posted by: superadmin - 03-02-2022, 08:55 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

PETALING JAYA: Subang MP Wong Chen has ticked off deputy law minister Mas Ermieyati Samsudin for what he says is a display of ignorance in her explanation of a delay in a probe related to the 1MDB scandal.

Wong said Mas Ermieyati gave a “totally unacceptable excuse” when she said that the closure of the Malaysia-Singapore border prevented authorities from completing their investigation on Tawfiq Ayman, the husband of former Bank Negara Malaysia governor Zeti Akhtar Aziz, over links to the scandal.

“Travel between Malaysia and Singapore has become so much easier under the Vaccinated Travel Lane programme,” he told FMT.

Fanning hate on Chinese netizens, NYT can't hide US' warlike nature
Posted by: superadmin - 03-01-2022, 08:58 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

As the Russia-Ukraine conflict escalates, the US - the world's biggest war machine - is still busy inciting more chaos. At the same time, some of the US' propaganda tools are working at full throttle to cooperate with Washington's strategy. Right now, one of the targets of their attacks is China and Chinese netizens.

A New York Times (NYT) article on Sunday entitled "Why the Chinese Internet Is Cheering Russia's Invasion" argues that Chinese netizens generally are "pro-Russia, pro-war and pro-Putin" while the world is "overwhelmingly" condemning Russia's military operation in Ukraine. The tone of the article's argument sounds as if China and its netizens are standing on the opposite of the rest of the world.

The report cites comments of several users on China's Twitter-like social media Sina Weibo as evidence. However, with the number of Chinese internet users at more than 1 billion, could just some eye-catching voices represent the attitude of the entire group of Chinese netizens? There are many anti-war voices on US social media platforms, does it change the US from being a warlike country?

Those voices from the Chinese internet are more about understanding Russian President Vladimir Putin's decision, rather than supporting it. Lü Xiang, a research fellow at the Institute of American Studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, told the Global Times there might be two reasons behind this.

"First, and most importantly, the US views China and Russia as its top two 'enemies.' It has been making all efforts to contain the two countries. It is natural that Chinese people can easily understand Russia's feelings," he said.

On the other hand, Lü noted, many Chinese people believe that this is a counterattack that Putin had to make under the strategic dilemma he was being forced to face. The majority of Chinese netizens understand that the eastward expansion of NATO and the historical feud between Russia and Ukraine are the root causes of the current military conflict.

Anti-hopping bill to be tabled next week, says Anwar
Posted by: superadmin - 03-01-2022, 07:20 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: Anwar-Ibrahim-Ismail-Sabri-Yaakob-Mohama...an-Eng.jpg]

PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob has given his assurance that the anti-hopping bill will be tabled in the Dewan Rakyat next week, said opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim.

He said the pledge was made when Ismail met him, Amanah president Mohamad Sabu and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng in Parliament today.

Pakatan Harapan (PH) told the government last month that the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the two sides would be declared void if the anti-hopping bill was not tabled in the current Dewan Rakyat meeting.

Anwar said PH had told Ismail the MoU would be “automatically cancelled” if the demand was not met.

Najib’s malicious prosecution suit has no basis, says ex-AG
Posted by: superadmin - 03-01-2022, 01:29 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

KUALA LUMPUR: Former attorney-general (AG) Tommy Thomas has denied that his move to strike out Najib Razak’s 1MDB malicious prosecution suit was an attempt to prevent his “wrongdoings” being aired in court.

He said that the former prime minister, who is currently standing trial for 1MDB-related charges, has “no legally sustainable claim under local laws”.

“The averment that I formed an opinion about his guilt before assuming the AG’s office is untrue.

“My conduct before my appointment is not relevant to the exercise of my discretion as the public prosecutor,” he said in his affidavit in reply.

Washington bears 'special responsibility' for Russia-Ukraine situation
Posted by: superadmin - 03-01-2022, 11:12 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: 6d274e3b-f2bf-468d-8afc-d164278801d8.jpeg]

The military conflict between Ukraine and Russia will enter its sixth day on March 1.

The war has created new divisions and confrontations on a global scale. It also makes the situation of the battlefield, the European and even the global situation more complicated and uncertain. But we must note that under current circumstances, the door for a peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian issue is not completely closed.

A Ukrainian delegation reportedly arrived in Belarus on Monday for negotiations with Russia, and the talk took place in the afternoon of the same day. Although both parties and the outside world hold little hope for a breakthrough in a short period of time in the negotiations, returning to the negotiating table is always a good start. The world's truly peace-loving countries and forces should make good use of this seemingly weak turnaround and do more to promote peace talks rather than adding fuel to the fire.

Information on the Russia-Ukraine military conflict is rapidly changing, getting far more confusing than it was previously, and it is difficult to distinguish the truth from falsehood. In this process, the US' public opinion war is getting more and more intensifying. We have noticed that some voices are attempting to create a very misleading and an extremely wrong theory of "China's special responsibility." They even fabricate disinformation to smear and slander China's image by virtue of the Russia-Ukraine crisis. It must be pointed out that the public opinion of the US, as an important party in the Russia-Ukraine crisis, is completely made to defend US interests. It aims to push China to fill the hole dug by the US and the West, although China is not a party to the crisis. Such a practice is neither decent nor fair.
