From Lim Kit Siang
Reading lawyer Chooi Mun Sou’s memoirs, “Malaysia My Home – Quo Vadis”, I was most touched by the unfinished letter written by (former Bank Bumiputra Malaysia Berhad banker) Jalil Ibrahim to his wife and children before he was murdered in the Regent Hotel, Hong Kong on July 18, 1983:
“The problems in Hong Kong are not my making and from today onwards I am going to think of myself and my family first and put the interests of the Bank, the race and the country behind me. If those directors had thought of the interests of the Bank, the race and the country first they wouldn’t have made all those blunders in the first place. I have sacrificed enough and suffered enough for their blunders …”

KUALA LUMPUR – DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng has taken the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to task, claiming that the agency has once again failed to carry out its responsibilities and duties.
He claimed that the revelations of a witness in the corruption trial between former deputy prime minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Ultra Kirana Sdn Bhd (UKSB) have highlighted MACC’s apparent favouritism and double-standards in enforcing the law.
“MACC’s actions are very disappointing. It is clear that it has been used as a political tool,” he alleged in a post on Twitter today, adding that comprehensive change must be implemented within the agency to restore lost confidence.

SANDAKAN – Despite not taking the Mandarin subject in her government primary school, Ang An Teng’s passion for the language had her scoring an A+ for Bahasa Cina (Mandarin subject) in her Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM).
Ang who achieved 6 A+ and 4 A in her SPM results revealed this week that when she enrolled in Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Muhibbah Sandakan, she knew that students from a government primary school were not offered to take Mandarin.
But she was determined to learn the language.
“I love the Chinese culture and language. I am particularly interested in learning about the people in China in ancient times.
“Knowing that students from SK (Sekolah Kebangsaan) are not offered the Mandarin subject, I met the school’s Mandarin teacher, begging to give (me) a chance to take the subject in the examination.
“I then scored A for the subject in my PT3, and A+ in my SPM,” she said.

Dr Mahathir’s broken record of race-based economic resuscitation must cease – J.D. Lovrenciear
![[Image: 14122020_-_KUL_-_Mahathir_Mohamad_05_-_Sairien.jpg]](https://media.thevibes.com/images/uploads/covers/_large/14122020_-_KUL_-_Mahathir_Mohamad_05_-_Sairien.jpg)
DURING a recent forum organised by the Malay Economic Action Council, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad told a media conference about his ideas of how to resuscitate the country’s parched economy.
At the forum he again spun his broken record claiming that while poverty affects all races in this country, the problem is worse among the Malays.
As he had done all through his political career he crooned that the Malays are so poor to the extent that sometimes they are forced to sell their property, including land, in order to survive.
This is 2022. More than half a century has flowed under the bridge of the political hatchery of the bloody May 13, 1969 racial riots.
And he is still at it splitting economic weightages along race-based (racism) milestones.
What kind of nation does he dream of when leaders around the world are racing ahead with a one-nation-of-people thinking to rebuild their post-pandemic economies?

HIGH praises were sung at the Universiti Malaya Law Faculty jubilee celebration last Friday, June 17th. The list of successful alumni is long, and we cheered with great pride that the half-century-old faculty has successfully produced great legal minds. Minds trained to prevail in the national interest and to uphold Malaysian laws, customs, and traditions.
We cheered even louder when the prime minister emphasised the fact that all three branches of government today are led by Universiti Malaya Law Faculty alumni.
And it occurred to me, “Isn’t this the perfect opportunity to hasten legal reforms and procedures?”

| Macron loses Parliament majority in stunning setback |

PARIS – French President Emmanuel Macron today lost his parliamentary majority after major election gains by a newly formed left-wing alliance and the far right, in a stunning blow to his plans for major second-term reform.
The result from today’s second round poll threw French politics into turmoil, raising the prospect of a paralysed legislature or messy coalitions with Macron forced to reach out to new allies.
Macron, 44, now also risks being distracted by domestic problems as he seeks to play a prominent role in putting an end to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and as a key statesman in the EU.
Macron’s “Together” coalition will still be the biggest party in the next National Assembly. But with 245 seats, according to full Interior Ministry results announced early this morning, it is well short of the 289 seats needed for a majority in the 577-member chamber.

Major Chinese e-commerce platforms have reported record sales during this year's just-ended June 18 (618) shopping festival, shrugging off concerns that consumer demand is "faltering" amid the continuous impact of the epidemic and a decline in retail trade for three months.
Although the growth shows some slowdown according to data from China's e-commerce giant JD.com, and lingering epidemic control measures have caused some problems with deliveries, the promotion, which ran for the past 18 days and concluded Sunday, has become further proof of consumption recovery and growing consumers' appetite in the world's second largest economy.

GEORGE TOWN: Johor received a higher budget allocation for 2022 than Selangor, says an economist, who rejected the notion that Johor had been sidelined in terms of federal funds.
Barjoyai Bardai of Universiti Tun Abdul Razak told FMT that Johor topped the list of budget allocations to states. It received an allocation of RM865 million, more than Selangor, which received RM852 million.
“So, Johor has not been sidelined in the budget allocation,” he said, adding that the states that received the lowest allocations were Perlis at RM138 million and Kelantan at RM331 million.
Another economist, Yeah Kim Leng of Sunway University, said the federal government allocates funds to the states based on their per capita income.

GEORGE TOWN – If Penangites are serious about resolving the ongoing traffic issues plaguing the island, then they have no choice but to embrace the Penang Transport Master Plan as its solution.
Speaking to The Vibes, Infrastructure and Transport exco Zairil Khir Johari explained that the master plan has been chiefly designed to alleviate the congestions once and for all.
“Currently only the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway represents the backbone of a traffic dispersal system. It is unfortunately overwhelmed as traffic continues to pile up, given the recent struggles during the peak holiday break,” he said.
The Tg Bunga rep added that a more robust public transportation system will not solve the issue, pointing out that Rapid Penang provides complimentary shuttle service in the city area and the suburbs, but the roads remain jammed.
