PH’s struggles due to Dr M’s refusal to back Anwar, says analyst

PETALING JAYA: Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s refusal to support PKR president Anwar Ibrahim is the main reason why Pakatan Harapan (PH) is fractured, says a political analyst.

Oh Ei Sun of the Singapore Institute of International Affairs said Mahathir’s refusal to back Anwar and hand over power as agreed had essentially split the coalition, something it has yet to recover from.

He was commenting on Pejuang president Mukhriz Mahathir’s remarks that Anwar, the PH chairman, had not done enough to unite opposition parties.

Oh said while he did not think Mukhriz was wrong in his assessment, he and his father were also to blame for their shortcomings as leaders in PH when it was the ruling government.

Will a Chinese wind of change blow BN’s way?
Posted by: superadmin - 03-05-2022, 10:11 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

JOHOR BAHRU: Chinese voters are expected to have a huge say on which coalition forms the next Johor state government on March 12.

Although all parties claim they have the support of the community, Chinese voters in urban areas have traditionally been considered to be “opposition supporters” although there were indications in the Melaka and Sarawak state elections that there was a change of tide or general discontentment with Pakatan Harapan.

Many members of the community told FMT they had already decided on how they would be voting, though some remained uncertain.

Explain why Muhyiddin, Tajuddin cases shelved, MACC told
Posted by: superadmin - 03-05-2022, 10:03 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

PETALING JAYA: Anti-graft groups have called on the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to explain why its probes into former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin and Pasir Salak MP Tajuddin Abdul Rahman were classified as requiring “no further action”.

Transparency International Malaysia (TI-M) president Muhammad Mohan said more details should be disclosed to convince the public that no wrongdoings were committed.

“The public will not just accept an NFA decision, so the MACC must provide more information to convince the public,” he told FMT.

Stressing that the public had come to expect greater transparency from the government, Mohan said disclosing more details on the investigations would help MACC manage public perception and demonstrate that it did everything in its power to investigate the cases.

“The issue here is public perception. Once MACC confirms that investigations into the allegations are under way, the public will expect something to come up,” he said.

Move away from race-based NEP, says Muda candidate
Posted by: superadmin - 03-05-2022, 10:00 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

JOHOR BAHRU: Muda’s candidate for the Tenang seat, Lim Wei Jiet, said affirmative action must be based on people’s needs rather than race.

He said it was time to move away from the New Economic Policy which had been abused.

In an interview with FMT, Lim said he did not want situations where projects were given and quotas fulfilled simply because of one’s skin, especially when these went to the well-to-do.

“At the end of the day, you want the poor to be empowered and given extra support.

“We’ve seen the abuse of the NEP countless times over the decades by Umno-Barisan Nasional, where rich people’s kids get to enter Mara Junior Science Colleges (MRSMs), for example.

Half-truths and lies from a convict

BobbyO: Former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak, why did Goldman Sachs, the US Department of Justice (DOJ), and all the other entities pay billions of dollars if there was no crime committed?

Did they pay for the fun of it or they had so much excess funds that they, like the Saudi royal, decided to give billions to this nation just because they like us so much?

Either way, Najib, you are losing it. Your sense of rational thinking, that is. Or you make Malaysians feel as if they are born fools. Indeed, some of us are. Those who root for you and want to be part of your entourage, wherever you go.

You only told half the truth - that the nation had recovered the full portion of the heist. There are billions more outstanding, which the taxpayers are forking out year after year.

Dr Raman Letchumanan: Najib, excellent point. So are you going to file a fresh appeal to the Federal Court to say since the money has been recovered, your conviction in the SRC International case should be withdrawn? And your ongoing case on 1MDB should also be struck off?

No wonder your hotshot lawyer is off to the UK to hunt for a Queen’s Counsel. No wonder you are called Bossku. No wonder you are campaigning hard in the elections. Once in power, all cases can be ‘kautim-ed’.

But still, this strategy is not far-fetched. Charges were withdrawn from a Felda senior official who paid back the money he received.

In any case, have you heard about ‘lembu punya susu, sapi dapat nama’? (One man’s sweat becomes another man’s glory) You plundered and miraculously the Pakatan Harapan government recovered the money. And you are proudly claiming credit for it.

Let me give you a suggestion. Please help the present government recover all the money.

Federal Bakery: The audacity. It is like someone crapping on your doorstep saying he actually used his own toilet paper.

He thinks he is talking to idiots even if his words are meant for the gullible section of the population, including those who would invite him to talk to kids in schools.|

The money that was returned to the government was only recovered because of the integrity of systems in other countries that are still ruled by laws.

In the ordinary course of events, if it was left only to our own regulators, not only would this canary be flying free but the stolen loot would be funding the pleasures of degenerates from here to the Virgin Islands.

Tony Pua: Najib continues to make a fool of himself in Parliament

Tony Pua: Najib continues to make a fool of himself in Parliament by trying to shift 1MDB blame to subsequent ruling govts

KUALA LUMPUR, March 4 ― Datuk Seri Najib Razak is only continuing to make a fool of himself by pleading his 1MDB case in Parliament and trying to shift the blame to the subsequent governments, said Damansara MP Tony Pua.

The DAP National Publicity Secretary said that his latest show came just yesterday (March 3), when Najib questioned why his successors did not pay off 1MDB's bonds ahead of the maturity date to save on interest costs.

He claimed that the government could have used the funds recovered from Goldman Sachs, the US Department of Justice, Ambank, KPMG and Deloitte to pay 1MDB bonds.

“Najib thinks that redeeming bonds traded in the bond market is like paying off his housing loan with a bank. Except it isn’t, and that’s why it’s called a bond, and not a bank loan.

Perak’s prerogative to stop supplying water to Penang: Tuan Ibrahim
Posted by: superadmin - 03-04-2022, 01:27 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: 20220304_tuan_ibrahim_tuan_man_bernama.jpg]

MUAR – The Perak government’s decision not to continue supplying raw water to Penang was made under the state’s jurisdiction, said Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.

The environment and water minister said this was because the administration of water resources were under the respective state governments, and Perak had provided an explanation on the decision.

“Perak has to prioritise the state’s needs as it will have a population of three million by 2035,” he said.

He was speaking to reporters after campaigning for the Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate contesting for the Simpang Jeram seat in the Johor polls last night.

He said negotiations had been conducted and the Perak government said it needed a big water treatment plant in the northern part of the state.

A meeting between Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad and Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow was held to discuss water supply sources.

Tuan Ibrahim said Penang had the biggest water storage reserve in Malaysia with a 30% reserve margin, compared with other states.

At the same time, Tuan Ibrahim said Penang could implement other alternatives, including finding new underground water sources.

Yesterday, Perak said that it was unable to supply raw water from Sg Perak to Penang as proposed under the Sg Perak Raw Water Transfer Scheme as studies indicated that the state did not have enough water for its own use. – Bernama, March 4, 2022
