US causes humanitarian disasters around globe, killing innocent civilians and creating millions of refugees

Editor's Note:

Since the military conflict between Russia and Ukraine began, the international community has grown increasingly aware of the roles the US and NATO have played behind the crisis.

From lip service on the Ukraine refugee issue to a spotty overseas human rights record; from imposing sanctions on "disobedient countries," to coercing other nations to pick sides… the US has acted like a "Cold War schemer," or a "vampire" who creates "enemies" and makes its fortunes from pyres of war. The Global Times is publishing a series of stories and cartoons to demonstrate how the US, in its superpower status, has been creating trouble in the world one crisis after another. This is the sixth installment.

Jamie Dimon sees ‘storm clouds’ ahead for U.S. economy later this year
Posted by: superadmin - 04-14-2022, 03:20 PM - Forum: Business, Economy and Investment - No Replies

  • The risk that the Federal Reserve accidentally tips the U.S. economy into recession as it combats inflation is rising, according to JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon.
  • “I’m simply pointing out that those are storm clouds on the horizon that may disappear, they may not,” Dimon said.
  • In the event that a recession does develop, the bank would “have to put up a lot more” for loan loss reserves, Dimon told reporters.

The risk that the Federal Reserve accidentally tips the U.S. economy into recession as it combats inflation is rising, according to JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon.

The CEO of the biggest U.S. bank by assets said Wednesday that economic growth will continue at least through the second and third quarters of this year, fueled by consumers and businesses flush with cash and paying off debts on time.

“After that, it’s hard to predict. You’ve got two other very large countervailing factors which you guys are all completely aware of,” Dimon told analysts, naming inflation and quantitative tightening, or the reversal of Fed bond-buying policies. “You’ve never seen that before. I’m simply pointing out that those are storm clouds on the horizon that may disappear, they may not.”

Europe to see a sharp recession if Russia’s Putin shuts off the gas taps
Posted by: superadmin - 04-14-2022, 03:16 PM - Forum: Business, Economy and Investment - No Replies

  • In a biannual Joint Economic Forecast, published Wednesday, Germany’s biggest economic institutions reduced their GDP forecasts as the war in Ukraine slows the recovery from Covid-19.
  • The RWI in Essen, the DIW in Berlin, the Ifo Institute in Munich, the IfW in Kiel and the IWH in Halle now expect German GDP to grow by 2.7% in 2022 and 3.1% in 2023.
  • “If gas supplies were to be cut off, the German economy would undergo a sharp recession,” said Stefan Kooths, research director for business cycles and growth at the Kiel Institute.

German economists are forecasting a recession in Europe’s largest economy if Russian gas supplies were to stop, and the effects could spread through the continent.

In their biannual Joint Economic Forecast, published Wednesday, Germany’s five biggest economic institutions sharply reduced their gross domestic product forecasts as the war in Ukraine slows the recovery from Covid-19.

The RWI in Essen, the DIW in Berlin, the Ifo Institute in Munich, the IfW in Kiel and the IWH in Halle now expect German GDP to grow by 2.7% in 2022 and 3.1% in 2023, assuming that there is no further economic escalation related to the war in Ukraine and gas flows to Europe from Russia continue. The institutes had previously projected growth of 4.8% in 2022.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the European Parliament have called for the European Union to impose a total embargo on Russian oil, gas and coal imports in light of atrocities against civilians by Russian forces in Ukraine.

No entry to party hoppers, says DAP sec-gen
Posted by: superadmin - 04-14-2022, 02:52 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

KUALA LUMPUR, April 14 — DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke has today said the party will make it an official position and policy to not accept any party hoppers.

He said this is in line with the party’s stand, whether such individuals are from within DAP or without, including the most recent example, former Pengkalan Batu assemblyman Norhizam Hassan Baktee.

“We will never accept such frogs. We will never accept any hoppers whether they are from our party or other parties. For Norhizam, the case is very clear: He hopped out when we were down.

“So right now, he wants to come back. He thinks that right now, he has lost in the (Melaka) state election and he wants a new platform. He wants to come back. He can forget about it.

Ex-diplomats plan protest letter over PM’s UAE debacle
Posted by: superadmin - 04-14-2022, 09:17 AM - Forum: Politics - Replies (2)

PETALING JAYA: A group of former ambassadors is planning to write a letter of protest to Wisma Putra following a fiasco involving the prime minister’s visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) late last month.

Noor Farida Mohd Ariffin, who once served as an ambassador to the Netherlands, told FMT that many of her former colleagues were “outraged” at the manner in which the matter was handled.

They were particularly dismayed with the recall of the ambassador, Tarid Sufian, and consul-general Hasril Abdul Hamid from their posts.

Tg Malim has potential to be EV manufacturer hub for Asean: PM
Posted by: superadmin - 04-13-2022, 02:59 PM - Forum: Business. Economy and Investment - No Replies

TANJUNG MALIM – The development of the Automotive High-Tech Valley (AHTV) can make Malaysia, among others, a hub for electric vehicle manufacturers and component suppliers, not only to the Asean market, but also to a wider market.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the development would be able to attract foreign investors, especially from China and other countries, because it has the potential to strengthen the automotive ecosystem in a large area.

“If other countries like the United States can be proud of Detroit, a district famous for its car manufacturing industry, it is possible that one day, Tg Malim will be known as a great automotive hub in the region,” he said during AHTV’s launch here today.

Apart from that, the prime minister said Tg Malim would see an economic overflow from the activities of the AHTV development project which is expected to generate 370,000 jobs during construction and 160,000 jobs when it is operational.

Ukraine crisis risks escalating amid stalled talks, rising hostility
Posted by: superadmin - 04-13-2022, 10:48 AM - Forum: Politics - Replies (1)

Russian President Vladimir Putin called the situation in Ukraine "a tragedy" and peace talks had reached a "dead end" in his meeting with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, asserting that economic sanctions imposed on Russia by nations around the world have "failed" and he had no intention of pulling back from a military campaign.

Western media reported that Russia is planning a new operation to end or make significant progress in its military operation in Ukraine by May 9, Victory Day, to celebrate the former Soviet Union's victory over Nazi Germany, with a decisive battle in east Ukraine's Donbas region.

Chinese analysts said on Tuesday that the positive trend achieved by previous peace talks in Turkey was ruined, and the West and Ukraine are likely to miscalculate Russia, making negotiations hard to restart.
