Dow falls more than 600 points, S&P 500 tumbles below 4,000 to the lowest level in a year
Stocks fell sharply Monday, pushing the S&P 500 to breach the 4,000 level for the first time in more than a year as the market sell-off continued.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 653.67 points to 32,245.70, or 1.99%. The S&P 500 fell 3.2% to settle at 3,991.24, while the Nasdaq Composite lost 4.29% to 11,623.25.
The S&P 500 traded as low as 3,975.48 on the day, dipping below the 4,000 mark to its lowest level since March 2021 and pulling back 17% from a 52-week high as traders struggled to bounce back from last week’s big market swings. All sectors except for consumer staples dipped into the red.

China’s April exports lowest in two years as virus bites: customs data |

BEIJING – China’s export growth slumped in April to its lowest level in almost two years, customs data showed today, as a Covid-19 resurgence shuttered factories, sparked transport curbs and caused congestion at key ports.
The data shows the extent of growing damage as the world’s second largest economy confines millions to their homes – particularly in key business hub Shanghai – to stamp out its worst Covid-19 resurgence since the early days of the pandemic.
Beijing has persisted with a strict zero-Covid-19 policy involving lockdowns and mass testing, but the economic costs are mounting as manufacturing hubs and supply chains atrophy under gruelling restrictions.
Export growth plunged to 3.9% on-year last month, the Customs Administration said today.

PETALING JAYA: Political analysts have warned Perikatan Nasional that the coming 15th general election could be the coalition’s last-stand.
James Chin of the University of Tasmania’s Asia Institute, said he believed that GE15 “is, more or less, the last roll of the dice” for PN.
Despite the current low morale in the coalition,he did not expect the coalition to back down from contesting the elections.
“If they cannot do well in GE15 then the coalition will fold, but they will definitely survive until GE15,” Chin told FMT.
Chin agreed with the view of National Council of Professors fellow Jeniri Amir that PN had lost significant leverage now that its chairman, Muhyiddin Yassin, was no longer prime minister.

Why is it hard to learn the truth? Why are we breathing, thinking, and talking of here and now? Why is there something instead of nothing? To see the truth, it is necessary to unravel the matrix of all. We know that things happen because they can be known and felt by our senses. And our mind will interpret it as innumerable conditions that we must go through, persevere, go on, or undertake, inevitably. As phenomena existed long before we realise or understood them, we are condemned to ignorance.
Meanwhile, the process of becoming is the basis for all the activities we observe here and now. When there is a process to become, there will be a floating opportunity that conjures up energy. It is something that has remained a constant, according to the Energy Conservation Law. On another note, energy and matter are two aspects of the same thing, which is that the two are only reflected in different configurations, as shown in Einstein’s formula, E = mc2.
In dependent nature, all is made of energy and there is a need for equilibrium, or a constant factor is impossible. And the natural law that governs balance is known as the law of kamma which is largely articulated in Buddhism. This is a law of great scope because of the prevalence of myriad frequencies under infinitely conditional phenomena. Consequently, the specific work of kamma results should not be conjectured and it will bring insanity and vexation to anyone who has conjectured about them.
For the general understanding, the processes of integration will unfold under balanced phenomena which evoke forms by variation, whereas we could see its absence under imbalanced phenomena. Nonetheless, it is imperative to note that anything that exists intrinsically will not involve change and the created objects cannot exist intrinsically because it implies change. Therefore, any activity resulting from variation cannot exist inherently, as there will be processes that will change over and over again.
In other words, Mother Nature is universal and includes all the inherent and dependent aspects. It is a system with the inherent quality of emptiness that can be better known as the deepest fact of all. This means that it exists beyond the mind, beyond concepts or words, and bears the characteristics of without beginning and without end. Most trained minds are capable of perceiving such a reality and Buddhism implies the transformation of ignorance into enlightenment.
After all, emptiness is the primary source of perceptible realities. The depths of this discovery vary, depending on who makes the disclosure; and the particular situation (and orator) affects its perceived authority. The world is not closed: those who see, read, hear, and evaluate themselves can find the truth they desire. With the right attitude, we could discover a new horizon of being without boundaries, without stereotypes, and without labels. Happy reading and have a wonderful day!

A specter is haunting the world – the specter of US with its deceptive NED |

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the biggest villain Thanos has a powerful weapon called the "Infinity Gauntlet." With a snap of his fingers, he can effortlessly erase half of all life in the universe.
The US also has a similar weapon - the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), known as the US government's "white gloves." By putting on these gloves glossed over by the so-called democracy, Washington can easily interfere in the internal affairs of other countries and disrupt the order of their politics and society.
A fact sheet about the NED that the Chinese Foreign Ministry released on Saturday reveals the dark deeds performed all over the world by the organization that claims to "support freedom around the world."

Foreign firms refute ‘investor flight’ hype; temporary disruptions do not represent long-term outlook
Stringent anti-epidemic measures adopted in some key Chinese cities including Shanghai and Beijing, in hopes of curbing the rapid spread Omicron variant and bringing back sound bounce after a temporary economic shock, may inevitably hurt some foreign firms' performance, yet some Western media outlets are exaggerating the situation, hyping the "investor flight" theory, warning that such measures will result in a large-scale retreat of foreign firms and undermine China's attractiveness in the long run, which Chinese experts and industry players have dismissed.
The "ditch China" claim has been refuted by many foreign firms and industry players, who reasserted their confidence in the world's second-largest economy and its key role in the global industrial chain, and also appreciated the government's efforts of striking a balance between epidemic control and work resumption.

PETALING JAYA: Two-term DAP MP Ong Kian Ming has announced a break from politics to “regroup and recharge”.
Ong, who was elected the MP for Bangi in May 2018 and was previously MP for Serdang from 2013 to 2018, said he would not offer himself as a candidate for the next general election (GE15).
He said he would give his full support to whoever was named as DAP’s candidate for Bangi in GE15, and continue to serve the constituency and the party until Parliament was dissolved.
In a statement this morning, Ong, 46, who failed to defend his seat in the party’s central executive committee (CEC) elections in March, said: “While the results of the recent DAP central executive committee elections did play a role in confirming my decision to take a break from frontline politics, it was not the main reason for my decision.
