PETALING JAYA: Umno’s decision to sack and suspend a host of leaders is another indication that the party is headed in the wrong direction, says a party leader.
“The way we’ve carried ourselves after the general election (GE15) is wrong. There was no post-mortem, no remorse, no accountability, and there will be no contest for the top two posts in the party polls,” said the leader who declined to be named.”
Umno suffered its heaviest defeat in GE15, winning only 26 seats. It failed to win a single parliamentary seat in Selangor, Penang, Kedah, Melaka, Kelantan, Terengganu and Perlis.
“Now we’ve sacked and suspended a host of leaders, including those viewed as progressive like Khairy Jamaluddin and Shahril Hamdan. I fear this is the start of Umno’s demise,” said the source.

KUALA LUMPUR: Any decision to invite or allow former Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin to join PKR will need to be discussed by the party leaders, says Rafizi Ramli.
The PKR deputy president said the matter has not been brought up thus far, and if and when it arises, it will be a consensus.
“The matter (of Khairy joining PKR) has not arisen. When it does, certainly PKR needs to discuss the matter.
“However, it is not my decision alone,” he told reporters after a forum at the Parliament last night.
Rafizi said the party will continue to monitor any development on Khairy’s future in politics following his expulsion from Umno and review the situation when necessary.
Umno last night sacked Khairy and former Selangor Umno chief Noh Omar as well as suspended several leaders, including Sembrong MP Hishammuddin Hussein, for “breaching party discipline during the 15th general election (GE15)”.
In a tweet, Khairy said that he was “unbowed, unbent and unbroken” by Umno’s decision.

Racism is bred in Malaysian schools |

A couple of weeks ago, I wrote that it is terrifying to think about how racist Malaysia can be. This week, it seems like a school in Johor Bahru has taken my fear to baffling levels.
An all-girls “elite” school in JB allegedly conducted a Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) workshop exclusively for its poor-performing Malay-Muslim students, in a hotel. The school originally claimed that the programme was meant only for Muslim students, as it would be focusing on Islamic studies.
But later it was exposed that the workshop was wide-ranging, and included critical subjects like chemistry and additional mathematics. Naturally, non-Malay parents demanded an explanation from the school.

PAS Youth chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari has taken a swipe at Johor UMNO deputy chairman Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed for pretending not to understand the intended context of sedekah (charity) “which is the offering of money from other than the candidate or the candidate’s representative and has nothing to do with the candidate”.
Now that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) had opened the investigation papers on the matter, Ahmad Fadhli said there is nothing much that can be done or need to be said.
“What is certain (however) is that the Deputy Prime Minister who is also the UMNO president (Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi) is and will spend a lot of time in court,” the Pasir Mas MP pointed out.

How Isham Jalil single-handedly takes on the ‘onslaught’ from Hamzah and Raja Petra |

UMNO information chief Datuk Isham Jalil has shown his legal prowess to counter the arguments of ‘turncoat’ political blogger Raja Petra Kamaruddin who suggested that he (Isham) should show solid evidence that Perikatan Nasional (PN) has indeed bribed voters instead of calling on Bersatu deputy president Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin to do so.
In his video to defend the “charity of PN”, Raja Petra has earlier commented on Isham’s call that Hamzah should furnish solid evidence that PN did not bribe voters.
“I understand the law; in most cases this is correct. But it is not always right,” rationalised Isham who is an engineer by training.

Another Zahid ‘sideshow’ puts Anwar in a bind yet again |

From Ibrahim M Ahmad
Ahmad Zahid Hamidi appears to have put Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in yet another bind by his continued presence in the Cabinet as deputy prime minister.
On Thursday, it was reported that Zahid had applied to the Kuala Lumpur High Court for the “permanent return” of his passport “so that he can carry out his official duties”.
Criminal lawyers will tell you that the impounding by the court of an accused’s passport is a somewhat routine condition imposed on persons accused of criminal offences.
The reason for the condition is straightforward. It prevents an accused from leaving the country before the conclusion of his case.
This is particularly important when a person is considered a “flight risk”, that is, someone likely to try to escape from the country before his or her trial begins.
That is not to say that an accused whose passport has been impounded cannot leave the country at all.
