The night Tun M dons the sacred green jacket, impressed with full-force Malay solidar

POLITICS never fail to impress. Nothing is permanent in politics; forget about moral grounds for rules can be bent and so, too, is personal conviction. Extreme versatility is the call of the day as one’s worst enemy today can be his best friend tomorrow and one’s best friend can be his worst enemy overnight.

Who would have expected former twice premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to one day during his advanced lifetime to embrace an arch rival in PAS president Tan Sri Hadi Awang who was willing to accept him with open arms in the name of “common grounds” despite his “past wrongs”?

“Although he (Dr Mahathir) had wronged PAS, there are many common grounds that must be taken into account: to unite and fulfil shared duties in Islam,” the cleric had reasoned out in a Facebook posting in the wake of their reconciliation in May.

“Among the discussions was how it’s a must for Malay Muslims to unite as Malaysia’s majority original residents and a majority in the multi-cultural society.”

Environmental activist Abe Lim is Muda’s candidate for Bandar Utama
Posted by: superadmin - 07-22-2023, 09:25 AM - Forum: Politics - Replies (1)

PETALING JAYA: Muda will be fielding UK-trained lawyer and climate change advocate Abe Lim in the urban Bandar Utama seat in Selangor, which was won by Pakatan Harapan (PH) with a thumping majority in the last state election.

In 2018, DAP’s Jamaliah Jamaluddin, who is expected to be retained by the party to defend her seat, polled 38,561 or 91% of the total ballots cast to win by a majority of 34,679 votes in a three-way contest. She defeated the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate, Ch’ng Soo Chau from MCA, and an independent, both of whom lost their deposits.

Perikatan Nasional (PN) is expected to field a candidate from Gerakan in Bandar Utama.

Lim is a trained lawyer from Oxford Brooke’s University. She has also completed an executive business programme at Stanford Business School in the United States and is said to have delivered two TedX talks.

Sanusi a ‘disruptive force’, not showing leadership: ex-PKR senator
Posted by: superadmin - 07-21-2023, 10:53 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

GEORGE TOWN – Kedah caretaker menteri besar Datuk Seri Muhammed Sanusi Md Nor is becoming a “disruptive force” instead of showing leadership, former Balik Pulau MP Mohd Yusmadi Yusoff said.

The former PKR senator said Sanusi should instead collaborate with other states in the northern region, even though he is from the opposition Perikatan Nasional.

Kedah is in need of investments to steer it away from poverty, but Sanusi is not helping his state by “quarrelling with everyone”, Yusmaidi said.

“When you quarrel with everyone, your state suffers as you are unwilling to collaborate. States with means to help their neighbours would rather stay away,” he told The Vibes.

Kedah is now ranked together with the likes of Kelantan, Sabah and Sarawak as being among the most impoverished states in the country, Yusmaidi pointed out.

  So, if not Ramasamy, who?

What happens when the people of a community want to retain their current representative, but the political party “grandees” have other plans to fill the seats with so-called “new faces” and “young-blood.”

This seems to be the DAP conundrum.

In its flagship state of Penang, there are rumours circulating that some of the old stalwarts are going to be unseated. These are the people who helped shape the policies around a more inclusive state in the last three terms, after years of BN rule.

But voters want these accomplished leaders who have served them well to continue.

  Muda unveils new ‘realistic’ manifesto
Posted by: superadmin - 07-21-2023, 08:27 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

PETALING JAYA – Muda has taken a realistic approach in its election manifesto, the Muda Black Paper II, for next month’s state polls, says its president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.

Syed Saddiq said the manifesto, launched today, is an idea, solution, and proposal for improvement to any party that will lead the state governments.

“Muda must be realistic. This is the idealism we want to share because it is impossible for Muda to take over any state, as we are not even contesting 10% of the total seats, so we want to outline the ideas and suggestions for improvements that can be highlighted.

“Muda will highlight this (manifesto) as our solution if we are in the state assembly and become the voice of the people. As I said, we do not have the numbers to form the government, but we have ideas and improvements that we can propose,” he said at the launch of the Muda Manifesto at its main operations room here today.

YOURSAY | KJ is a spokesperson for PN
Posted by: superadmin - 07-21-2023, 08:08 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

RedCobra1259: Khairy Jamaluddin, it is so surprising that you could assume that two Rs (race and religion) deserve more attention than one R (royalty). That is not how the law defines the severity of an offence. There are several factors that determine the weight of the offence. It is not one or two.

Secondly, mentioning temples will automatically involve the second R (religion). It’s a package deal, sir. Royalty is a standalone, separate institution. Someone can also claim attacking the royalty is also attacking another R (religion) as the royalties are deemed the defenders of the federation’s official religion.

Thirdly, what can we say about your comments? You are now the official spokesperson for Perikatan Nasional (PN). You are using the talk show to speak for PN so you will speak with a biased view as proven by the first and second points above.

Anyway, please don’t interpret the severity of the offence by one or two Rs. Logic says it does not work this way. What a poor assessment.

FairMind: Khairy, are you sure that caretaker Kedah menteri besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor only violated one R and not three Rs altogether, including the remark that the Federal Constitution states that Penang is part of Kedah?

Either you just came out of the cave, or you are PN’s man. I have always viewed you as a prime minister candidate but you are beginning to become inconsistent with your educated background in line with PAS’ consistent fitnah (slander).

It is understandable that PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang is ailing and Sanusi is trying to be tough like Hadi was when he was young. It appears that Sanusi is jostling to become the next president of PAS when Hadi leaves or at least, he wants to be thrust into the inner circle of power.

Taurine May Be a Key to Longer and Healthier Life
Posted by: superadmin - 07-20-2023, 11:19 AM - Forum: Food Supplements - Replies (15)

A deficiency of taurine—a nutrient produced in the body and found in many foods—is a driver of aging in animals, according to a new study led by Columbia researchers and involving dozens of aging researchers around the world.

The same study also found that taurine supplements can slow down the aging process in worms, mice, and monkeys and can even extend the healthy lifespans of middle-aged mice by up to 12%.

The study was published June 8 in Science(link is external and opens in a new window).

“For the last 25 years, scientists have been trying to find factors that not only let us live longer, but also increase healthspan, the time we remain healthy in our old age,” says the study’s leader, Vijay Yadav, PhD, assistant professor of genetics & development at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons.

“This study suggests that taurine could be an elixir of life within us that helps us live longer and healthier lives.”

Yellen Bows Repetitively – America Begging China To Buy $850 Billion Debt

Yellen Bows Repetitively – America Begging China To Buy $850 Billion Debt, But Beijing Has 5 Demands For The U.S.
[Image: US-Treasury-Secretary-Janet-Yellen-Bowed...Lifeng.jpg]

Americans were stunned – and humiliated – when U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen bowed, not once, but repetitively, when she met Vice Premier He Lifeng during her visit to Beijing last week. Her Chinese counterpart was pleasantly surprised with her gesture that he appeared to backs away to give Yellen more room to “kowtow” and enthusiastically shaking his hand.

Bowing has never been American culture, especially to the Chinese, let alone a high-ranking American official like Yellen. It was a breach of protocol – fellow Americans slammed the 76-year-old treasury secretary as a video clip of the embarrassing moment emerged on social media. Some have even mocked and ridiculed her as if she was ready to kiss the ring of Vice Premier He.

Responding to the criticism of her bowing to China, Yellen insisted that Washington makes certain decisions while keeping national security in mind. Yes, she was sent by President Joe Biden on a secret mission – begging the Chinese to buy at least US$850 billion of American debt papers. It makes sense because U.S. will never bow unless it desperately needs your money, lots of it.
