Bersatu Youth chief in fantasy world, oblivious to Hindu temples being demolished

Bersatu Youth chief in fantasy world, oblivious to Hindu temples being demolished in Kedah
[Image: Wan-Ahmad-Fayhsal-Wan-Ahmad-Kamal-resize.jpg]

BERSATU Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal must be living in a fantasy world.
Recently, he claimed that the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government in general and PAS in particular is sensitive to the rights of the non-Muslims. Islam directs those Muslim rulers in power to protect the places of worship of non-Muslims.

He was referring to the allegations made against the DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng about the danger posed by PN towards non-Muslim places of worship.

In actual fact, Lim never made the sweeping statement about the danger PN posed to the non-Muslim places of worship but he only made reference to demolition of the more than 100-years old Sri Madurai Veeram temple that was located near the railway station in Alor Setar, Kedah in July 2020.

The temple that was built for the Tamil railway workers before independence was completely demolished in the wee hours of the morning on July 19, 2020.

Association proposes diverse, equitable and inclusive education quota system

PETALING JAYA: An education group has called for a more “diverse, equitable and inclusive” quota system instead of the race-based approach in higher education institutions.

The Higher Education Malaysia Association (Heya) said the quota system should ensure a balanced composition of students in higher education institutions, and proposed that the system take into account three factors rather than race and ethnicity.

The first factor is “economic capital”, allowing students from low-income households to benefit and ensure education equity is upheld for less financially capable communities.

Secondly, “social capital” should be considered, factoring in the digital divide and lower access to educational material of students from less developed or rural areas.

Do away with race-based education quotas, says Muda

PETALING JAYA: Muda has called for a shift in the education system from a race-based approach to a needs-based approach.

At a press conference here, Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman said this would ensure that students who excel in their studies will get university places.

The Muar MP noted how straight-A students who failed to secure a place in public matriculation programmes have been offered spots in top global universities, such as Harvard and Oxford.

“To solve this problem, Muda suggests that we transition from a purely race-based system to a hybrid needs-based and merit-based system,” he said.

Those who commited graft in the past must also face justice: Anwar
Posted by: superadmin - 07-10-2023, 01:49 PM - Forum: Stop Corruptions - No Replies

KUALA LUMPUR – Those who committed graft in the past must be brought to account to prevent future acts of corruption, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim told lawyers and judges today.

Speaking at the International Malaysia Law Conference 2023, Anwar urged the Bar to support the government’s initiatives to institutionalise good governance and to hold to account those who abused power and committed graft.

“No doubt that working on the present for the better of the future is essential, but it is equally as imperative to bring to justice the perpetrators of corruption in the past.

“Giving them a free pass without accountability is to give a blank cheque for the perpetration of future abuses. We need to see a forceful demonstration of this fervour from the Bar.

“This is the essence of democratic accountability – that we are not only accountable but must be seen to be accountable as well. And this too is the affirmation of justice,” Anwar said.

“Our beef is with PH, not UMNO,” says PAS veep
Posted by: superadmin - 07-10-2023, 11:51 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

PAS vice-president Datuk Seri Idris Ahmad said the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition’s beef is and always has been with Pakatan Harapan (PH) and not UMNO.

As such, the Bagan Serai MP said PN is open to reviving its political alliance with UMNO in the future, The Vibes reported.

“UMNO is not dangerous. Our enemy is PH, not UMNO. We are confident of bringing UMNO into the fold in post-election negotiations,” Idris was quoted as saying by the news portal.

“UMNO now is on the verge of ruin, no thanks to it having (Datuk Seri) Ahmad Zahid Hamidi as its president.”

Idris said this to an audience of 6,000 at the launch of PN’s state election machinery for Negri Sembilan in Sikamat last night.

According to Idris, UMNO should bot blame Bersatu for its defeat in the previous general election (GE15), adding that had UMNO done a deal with PN, the coalition would have “saved them from being in the opposition” and included them in the subsequent government that will be formed.
