“Support for BN in Negri Sembilan very positive,” says Ismail Sabri |

SUPPORT for Barisan Nasional (BN) among the voters in the six states involved in this weekend’s (Aug 12) state elections is becoming more obvious, especially in some of the party’s stronghold states, said Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
According to the former prime minister, this was based on feedback he had received while campaigning in Negri Sembilan and Terengganu recently.
“I have been to several places, including Negri Sembilan, where I visited two parliamentary constituencies, namely Kuala Pilah and Tampin. I also travelled to Besut, Terengganu.
“It appears that progress is being made. I witnessed open support for BN from place to place that I went, even if in certain states it appeared that the rival party was so strong, but when I went, the response was really positive.
“So, I think this is a indication to whom the vote will be given to on August 12,” Ismail Sabri was quoted as saying by Utusan Malaysia at Felda Sungai Kelamah, Negri Sembilan last night (Aug 7).

PETALING JAYA: Perikatan Nasional may have no choice but to field candidates aligned to Azmin Ali despite their poor performance at the 15th general election (GE15) in November last year, said an analyst.
Awang Azman Pawi of Universiti Malaya said not selecting certain candidates may backfire on the coalition.
“The party may be trying to avoid a rebellion from Azmin’s camp.
“That’s why PN is depending on Azmin, Dr Afif Bahardin and Rina Harun (among others) to lead them to victory, even though people within PN would consider them as unsuitable candidates,” he told FMT.

Global financial institutions increasingly upbeat on Chinese market |

A growing number of global financial institutions have in recent days increased or plan to increase their holdings of Chinese assets, as they express confidence in the recovery of the world's second-largest economy amid robust support measures, while other major economies, particularly the US, face rising economic risks, pushing investors to find other growth spots.
Global investors have already been pouring investment into China's financial market in recent months amid the country's economic recovery, and growing signs of troubles for the US economy, including the recent downgrade of its credit rating, could further accelerate the trend of increased foreign investments into China, analysts said on Monday.
Apart from measures to support overall economic growth, China is moving swiftly to make it easier for foreign investors to invest in Chinese assets, in contrast to US politicians' push for ever more restrictions on US financial institutions' Chinese investments, analysts pointed out, noting that global financial institutions will likely continue to expand investments in Chinese stocks and bonds in the coming months.
