Umno to dissolve Parliament once sure of GE15 victory: Ismail Sabri
Posted by: superadmin - 03-19-2022, 05:36 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has given his commitment to dissolve Parliament as soon as the party is confident of securing victory at the federal level.

In a fiery speech at the Umno general assembly, the party vice-president also called on all leaders and members to close ranks ahead of the much-anticipated polls to ensure a win.

Ismail Sabri said he took note of the demands from party delegates urging for an early election and said the matter will be deliberated soon by the top five leaders.

These leaders include president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan and vice-presidents Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid, Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin and Ismail Sabri himself.

“All of us here want Barisan Nasional (BN) to be the dominant party in the country once again,” he said during his winding up speech at the annual meeting today.

“If we are confident of victory, we will not wait even a second to dissolve Parliament to make way for the 15th general election.” – The Vibes, March 19, 2022

Ditch Hadi and Sanusi, then we can ‘muafakat’, Umno tells PAS
Posted by: superadmin - 03-19-2022, 02:38 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

KUALA LUMPUR – Umno should only consider rekindling its political alliance with PAS if the Islamist party is willing to turn its back on president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang, a party division chief proposed today.

Speaking at the Umno general assembly, Pasir Puteh Umno chief Datuk Zawawi Othman reasoned that possible future cooperations between the two can only happen once leaders who have “bad mouthed” Umno are out of the picture.

Other names mentioned by the Kelantan Umno information chief include Nik Omar Nik Abdul Aziz – son of former PAS leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat – and Kedah PAS deputy commissioner Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor.

“If PAS were to reject these leaders, then we (Umno) can accept the party and hold proper discussions but as long as these individuals are around, then we should stick to ourselves and let them go about their business,” said Zawawi.

Referencing Hadi’s comment made on January 27 about Umno being like a “duck with broken legs”, Zawawi expressed his disappointment over such remarks especially since both parties had signed the Muafakat Nasional (MN) charter on September 14, 2019.

DAP to elect new leaders, including sec-gen, ahead of GE15
Posted by: superadmin - 03-19-2022, 02:07 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

KUALA LUMPUR – After nine years at the helm of DAP, Lim Guan Eng will make way for a new secretary-general at its 17th national congress tomorrow, which comes in the wake of the party’s underwhelming performances in the last three state elections.

Lim cannot be re-elected to the post because he has served the maximum three terms, but is still expected to wield a strong influence as he is likely to remain in the central executive committee (CEC).

A total of 4,149 delegates will attend the one-day national congress physically at the Ideal Convention Centre in Shah Alam and vote in the CEC, which will lead the party into the 15th general election (GE15). The CEC members will among themselves elect the party’s office-bearers.

What’s in the name? Nothing, says Umno leader on PM, party president
Posted by: superadmin - 03-19-2022, 02:01 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: 18032021_-_Pembukaan_PAU_2022_-_umno_gen...HMAN_1.JPG]

KUALA LUMPUR – Party vice-president Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob is respected not because of his name but by virtue of him being the prime minister, said an Umno leader.

Beruas Umno chief Datuk Azhar Ahmad made the same remark about his party boss Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, saying the names of the two leaders bear no weight in reality.

Instead, he said, they are held in high esteem because of their respective posts – Zahid as Umno president and Ismail Sabri as the prime minister.

“We must respect the presidential institution. We respect Zahid because we respect our president.

“We also respect Prime Minister Ismail Sabri, but not his name. There’s no meaning to his name.

“Coincidentally, he became prime minister. Therefore, we must respect him while he holds this position,” he said during the Umno general assembly here today.

Meanwhile, Azhar reiterated party calls to not work with opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, DAP or Bersatu in the 15th general election (GE15).

He added that Barisan Nasional (BN) must face the looming GE15 as a solo coalition, repeating the mantra of “No DAP, No Bersatu, No Anwar”.

“We must be dominant. There will not be stability in the country if the said ruling party is not dominant.

“To have stability, Umno must be dominant in governing the country, and that is a must.”

Umno had endorsed the “No Anwar, no DAP, no Bersatu” stance since Zahid strongly rejected any cooperation with the PKR president.

In last year’s party general assembly, Zahid had “killed” the idea of working with Anwar, DAP and Bersatu, adding that BN will be contesting under its own logo in the next general election. – The Vibes, March 19, 2022

ADUN SPEAKS | PH’s adulterated reform agenda

Quote:Mahathir’s whim and fancies

Twenty-two months was not a long period, but it was enough to sink the Harapan as a whole in the quagmire of politics.

During these 22 months, Harapan accommodated too much with the whims and fancies of Mahathir who was never comfortable with his association with Harapan in the first place.

Harapan was used and manipulated to serve the short term interests of Mahathir especially to prevent the return of the former ousted prime minister Najib Tun Razak.

Harapan’s reform agenda articulated in its manifesto could not just take off.

Mahathir was the biggest stumbling block in the implementation of the manifesto.

ADUN SPEAKS | There is no end to analyses as to why Pakatan Harapan lost not in the recent Johore election but also in Melaka and Sarawak.

The failure to make comeback in the elections has been attributed to low voter turnout, too many competing parties, lack of opposition coherence in formulating an agenda and the strength of BN/Umno.

These reasons have a role in why Harapan lost the elections and why component parties such as Amanah and PKR had a disastrous performance.

Even the intact DAP lost some seats in all these recent elections.

Harapan reached its political height in the 2018 general election.

What was thought impossible was made possible by the capture of federal power by the opposition.

With Mahathir Mohammed as the prime minister, the victory was a pyrrhic one, it was just a matter of time it became a political disaster for Harapan, something that has come to be a nightmare for PH as a whole until today.

China-Russia relations the most important strategic asset that cannot be damaged

China-Russia relations the most important strategic asset that cannot be damaged by US provocation
[Image: f65e35b6-07eb-4fd7-b098-c9dc6133e49e.jpeg]
The close relationship between China and Russia has been a thorn in the US' side, especially against the backdrop of the ongoing Ukraine crisis. With the simmering of the situation, it couldn't be any clearer that Washington is eager to exploit the Russia-Ukraine conflict to drive a wedge between Beijing and Moscow.

For one thing, senior White House officials have on multiple occasions accused China of not exerting enough pressure on Russia to stop the country's military action in Ukraine. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Thursday before US President Joe Biden's virtual meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping that Washington will "impose costs" for any support Beijing provides to Russia's actions against Ukraine. He urged Beijing to assume "responsibility to use its influence and defend the international rules and principles that it professes to support." For another, an increasing number of Western media reports and analyses have emerged to hype how China's ties with Russia have made China "uncomfortable" and "awkward" and warn that Beijing risks isolation if it doesn't distance itself from Moscow.

Xi urges US, NATO to talk with Russia, opposes indiscriminate sanctions
Posted by: superadmin - 03-19-2022, 10:37 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: 1a984929-db64-4d1b-8785-82da1fec77a0.jpeg]

Chinese President Xi Jinping encouraged the US and NATO to have conversations with Russia to solve the problems behind the Ukraine crisis, and expressed opposition to indiscriminate sanctions, during his video meeting with US President Joe Biden on Friday.

The Ukraine crisis is not something we want to see, and the events again show that countries should not come to the point of meeting on the battlefield. Conflict and confrontation are not in anyone's interest, and peace and security are what the international community should treasure the most, Xi said.

After Biden said the US does not seek a new Cold War, changes in China's system, a stronger alliance against China, supporting "Taiwan secessionism" or conflict with China, Xi said he takes the remarks very seriously.

On China-US relations, Xi said the direct cause for the current situation in the China-US relationship is that some people on the US side have not followed through on the important common understanding reached by the two presidents and have not acted on Biden's positive statements. The US has misperceived and miscalculated China's strategic intention.

KUALA LUMPUR – National top shuttler Lee Zii Jia moves a step closer to claim a second All England title after overthrowing rival Kento Momota of Japan 21-7, 13-21, 21-11.

Defending champion Zii Jia was quick off the blocks in the first set, building a huge lead to take the set in under 15 minutes against Momota at the Utilita Arena in Birmingham.

However, world number two Momota came from behind with composure to claim the second set, forcing the match into a final set showdown.

In a thrilling third set, both shuttlers went at it against each other, but seventh seed Zii Jia got 10 straight points to cement his win and move on to the semi-finals.

Momota had won eight of the 10 previous encounters between the two, with the last win coming at the 2020 Thomas Cup.

Umno delegates urge party to rally around PM Ismail Sabri, party leadership to avoid internal strife

KUALA LUMPUR, March 19 ― Several Umno delegates advised members to rally around the party’s leadership, especially Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri to avoid weakening the party during their speeches at the party’s general assembly today.

Wangsa Maju Umno division chief Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Abdullah also cautioned members not to belittle the Prime Minister, who is also one of the party’s vice presidents.

“I hope the Prime Minister is not bullied by others, we will move together even in a crisis, until finally, all Umno MPs support Ismail Sabri as PM,” he said during the debate on the president's policy speech at the Umno General Assembly 2021 here yesterday.

Meanwhile, a delegate from Melaka, Datuk Mustafa Musa expressed his hope that the party leadership and Umno party members would avoid doing things that could weaken the party.
