KUALA LUMPUR – National top shuttler Lee Zii Jia moves a step closer to claim a second All England title after overthrowing rival Kento Momota of Japan 21-7, 13-21, 21-11.

Defending champion Zii Jia was quick off the blocks in the first set, building a huge lead to take the set in under 15 minutes against Momota at the Utilita Arena in Birmingham.

However, world number two Momota came from behind with composure to claim the second set, forcing the match into a final set showdown.

In a thrilling third set, both shuttlers went at it against each other, but seventh seed Zii Jia got 10 straight points to cement his win and move on to the semi-finals.

Momota had won eight of the 10 previous encounters between the two, with the last win coming at the 2020 Thomas Cup.

Umno delegates urge party to rally around PM Ismail Sabri, party leadership to avoid internal strife

KUALA LUMPUR, March 19 ― Several Umno delegates advised members to rally around the party’s leadership, especially Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri to avoid weakening the party during their speeches at the party’s general assembly today.

Wangsa Maju Umno division chief Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Abdullah also cautioned members not to belittle the Prime Minister, who is also one of the party’s vice presidents.

“I hope the Prime Minister is not bullied by others, we will move together even in a crisis, until finally, all Umno MPs support Ismail Sabri as PM,” he said during the debate on the president's policy speech at the Umno General Assembly 2021 here yesterday.

Meanwhile, a delegate from Melaka, Datuk Mustafa Musa expressed his hope that the party leadership and Umno party members would avoid doing things that could weaken the party.

Hadi should go, before he is pushed
Posted by: superadmin - 03-19-2022, 09:54 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

A week before the Johor state elections, PAS president Hadi Awang urged voters not to support Umno, a party he associated with misconduct, malpractice and corruption.

Isn’t this a case of the pot calling the kettle black? PAS politicians broke many rules during the lockdowns, with one menteri besar engaging with members of another community in a northern state, and threatening to divert a river flowing into another state.

Moreover, didn’t PAS have to pay the investigative reporter, Clare Rewcastle Brown, a substantial amount of damages in an out-of-court settlement aftar Hadi sued her over an article alleging that PAS had received RM90 million to guarantee its support for Umno and Barisan Nasional?

PAS is also seen as a party which does not tolerate criticism. One of its MPs, Khairuddin Aman Razali, was critical of PAS and got into the bad books of the party hierarchy.

Will Warisan, DAP mend ties before GE15?
Posted by: superadmin - 03-19-2022, 09:38 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

KOTA KINABALU: Cracks have emerged in the relationship between Warisan and DAP, which were once formidable political partners, after the Shafie Apdal-led party spread its wings to the peninsula.

The two parties seemed inseparable at one point in time, with Sabah DAP even agreeing to use the Warisan logo in the state polls in 2020.

But their relationship is on the rocks after Warisan’s venture across the South China Sea saw it recruit DAP leaders and members.

This has been worsened by Warisan contesting in Pakatan Harapan (PH) areas in the recent Johor elections.

Warisan vice-president Junz Wong acknowledged that the relationship has hit a rocky patch since PH signed the memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Putrajaya behind its back.

PETALING JAYA: Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad says his party, Pejuang, will not give up its struggles despite a disastrous outing in the Johor elections which saw all 42 of its candidates lose their deposits.

At a press conference, Mahathir said the party had also identified three main issues which contributed to its loss in the polls that took place on March 12.

“Pejuang remains relevant within the political arena and is committed to addressing the people’s issues,” he said.

Further deliberation needed on anti-hopping law bill, says law minister
Posted by: superadmin - 03-18-2022, 04:43 PM - Forum: Politics - Replies (1)

PETALING JAYA: The Cabinet has decided that the bill for an anti-hopping law requires “further deliberation”, ahead of its tabling in the Dewan Rakyat, law minister Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said today.

The bill, which also seeks to limit the tenure of the prime minister is supposed to be tabled in the current sitting of the Dewan Rakyat.

In a statement, Wan Junaidi said the bill needs to be deliberated further with stakeholders from Barisan Nasional (BN) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) to ensure it can get sufficient support in the Dewan Rakyat.

“Under Article 159 of the Federal Constitution we need a two-thirds majority support in the Dewan Rakyat to amend the Federal Constitution,” he said.

ADUN SPEAKS | The real problem with Pakatan Harapan
Posted by: superadmin - 03-18-2022, 04:38 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

Quote:Harapan's performance during its governance has not been outstanding to the point where floating voters are particularly fond of and willing to stand up for us again.

Although this is because Dr Mahathir Mohamad, the then head of the Harapan government, was unwilling to make real reformation.

ADUN SPEAKS | What is the real reason for Pakatan Harapan's consecutive election defeats? It is not the low voter turnout, it is not the short campaign period, it is not because we were unable to organise talks.

It is not because the opposition votes were spilt and it is not the issue of a common logo. All the above are just characterisations. The fundamental problem is the loss of the traits of institutional and political reform.

If we do not search for these traits, it will be difficult to cross the base.

Harapan, BN, and Perikatan Nasional each possess some base voters who will come out to vote. It was BN that won with the largest base.

Forget it, Zahid tells group pushing for early party polls

[Image: ahmad-zahid-hamidi-bernama-180322-3.jpg]

PETALING JAYA: There is a movement within Umno paying off the grassroots to get them to push for the party’s polls to be held before the next general election, claims Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Addressing the 2,666 delegates from across the country at today’s Umno general assembly, Zahid also alleged that the movement was also trying to pay off members at the Johor and Melaka elections as well as yesterday’s Wanita, Youth and Puteri assemblies.

“This is a borderless world, so I know,” he said.

“Forget about all that. It is important that we are united to face the general election together.

Perak exco man ordered to pay Guan Eng RM250,000 over headscarf claim
Posted by: superadmin - 03-18-2022, 03:23 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: lim-guan-eng-n-razman-zakaria-collage-180322.jpg]

GEORGE TOWN: The High Court has ordered a Perak executive councillor to pay Lim Guan Eng RM250,000 in damages and make a public apology over a Facebook post deemed defamatory to the former Penang chief minister.

Razman Zakaria, who is also the Perak PAS chief, claimed in a Facebook post on Nov 18, 2017, that Lim was supporting a so-called ban on hotel workers wearing headscarves, with the Penang government in full support.

im sued Razman, saying the post was made up and aimed at tarnishing his reputation and making him look like one who had no respect for Islam and Malay culture.

In a ruling by judicial commissioner Amarjeet Singh on Monday, Razman was ordered to pay Lim RM150,000 in general damages and RM100,000 in aggravated and exemplary damages.

Amarjeet also ordered Razman to make a public apology on his Facebook page within the next 14 days and for Lim’s Facebook page to be tagged to the apology post.

Tok Mat seen as making push for open-mindedness in Umno
Posted by: superadmin - 03-18-2022, 10:58 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

PETALING JAYA: An analyst has described Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan’s speech at the party’s general assembly as “very surprising” for its call for moderation, diversity and the need to ensure non-Malay support for Umno.

Azmi Hassan of Akademi Nusantara told FMT he saw it as a brave address aimed at pushing Umno’s grassroots towards open-mindedness.

He said it was also a message to the party’s potential partners.

“Come GE15, Umno wants to form the government and it needs all the help it can get from non-Malay voters,” he said.

“But first of all, the grassroots need to be open to this. It will be interesting to see how the three party wings debate this.”
