Say you’re wrong, in the right way
Posted by: superadmin - 03-27-2022, 09:49 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

Malaysia’s political, religious or social leaders often say things which offend others. They can’t help offending, as many of them are pretty offensive themselves. Political parties’ annual gatherings are some of the worst occasions for this.

As we are a multiracial country, those who are offended are often people of other races or religions.

Occasionally the offensive leaders may also offend other people whom we consider “inferior”, such as Indonesians or Bangladeshis. But those people are getting uppity and have started thinking they’re better than us!

Desperado drama king: Penang PKR slams Najib over claims of Chinese support
Posted by: superadmin - 03-27-2022, 09:44 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: 20220326-Najib_Razak_Penang-Najib_Razak_...ok_pic.jpg]

KUALA LUMPUR – Claims of Chinese support by former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak during his visit to Penang has drawn fire from PKR, which called “Bossku” a “desperado drama king”.

State PKR communications director Amir Ghazali said Penangites are often “entertained” by allegations that Chinese voters have returned to Barisan Nasional (BN) based on election results in Melaka and Johor as well as the reception Najib got during his two-day visit.

“To me, the allegations are simplistic. The two state elections are not a voting trend for a general election.”

He added that “desperado stunts” are needed to gain public sympathy. But Penangites still remember the discrimination perpetrated when Najib was PM, just because the state is governed by a different party, he said.

“Supporters of ‘Bossku’ think that a few hundred people showing up for his (Najib) programmes in Penang is a good sign that Penangites are supporting him.

Will Rafizi’s aura hamper BN’s resurgence among voters?
Posted by: superadmin - 03-26-2022, 07:45 PM - Forum: Politics - Replies (7)

[Image: rafizi_ramli_wikipedia_pic_11072021.jpg]

KUALA LUMPUR – Recently, former Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli revealed that a simulation exercise conducted during the Johor state election showed almost 40,000 voters who were previously sitting on the fence were shifting their support to Barisan Nasional (BN) and Perikatan Nasional (PN).

Worried about such a trend, Rafizi finally decided to return to the political stage and confirmed that he would contest for the post of PKR deputy president in the next party election.

PKR will hold elections for its leadership posts for the period 2022 to 2025, from May 13 to 18.

The re-emergence of Rafizi, a former PKR vice-president, has actually been awaited by many. From supporters of Pakatan Harapan (PH), especially PKR, to ordinary citizens, there have been expectations of him to return to the political arena.

Jamaie Hamil, a senior lecturer of political science at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, regards Rafizi’s reappearance as giving new light to PH in facing the upcoming 15th general election (GE15).

Microplastics found in blood for the first time, study says
Posted by: superadmin - 03-26-2022, 02:33 PM - Forum: Health News - No Replies

(March 25): Microplastics were detected in human blood for the first time, according to a study that may indicate the potential for particles to travel to organs.

Scientists found 17 out of the 22 healthy people they took samples from had quantifiable amounts of plastic particles in their blood. Researchers said further study is needed to determine the health risks of the materials.

Microplastics are ubiquitous in the environment and can be found in marine animals to drinking water, though the World Health Organisation has said there’s insufficient information to draw firm conclusions about how toxic they are for people and more research is needed. Over 300 million tons of plastic are produced every year and at least 14 million tons end up in the ocean where they can be ingested by animals and risk entering the human food supply chain, according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature.

China fires back at NATO’s ill intention on Ukraine crisis

China fires back at NATO’s ill intention on Ukraine crisis amid anniversary of Yugoslavia bombing

[Image: 574bc552-c5d8-4ce9-ba3e-846a331f0def.jpeg]

The Chinese Foreign Ministry on Friday said NATO's act of aggression will never be forgotten by the Serbian people, the Chinese people and the people around the world, amid the bitter 23rd anniversary of the Yugoslavia bombing in 1999 and NATO's latest smear.

On March 24, 1999, NATO started a 78-day bombing of Yugoslavia, causing thousands of casualties including three Chinese citizens, and displacing hundreds of thousands. Twenty-three years on, the US-driven NATO did not stop its expansion and aggression, fanning the flames on the Ukraine crisis and pressing China with groundless accusations.

On Thursday, NATO heads of state and government issued a joint statement after an extraordinary summit, in which NATO leaders called on all states, including China, to abstain from supporting Russia's "war effort," and to refrain from any action that helps Russia circumvent sanctions. They also said China is engaged in spreading lies and misinformation to support Russia.

Concerning accusations, a spokesperson of the Chinese Mission to the EU said on Friday that they are made by those who fan the flames to stir trouble. "Lies shall always remain lies, and what is false cannot become true."

China, India stress managing border dispute, urge Ukraine peace and dialogue during Wang Yi’s visit

[Image: d2d6dc27-ece0-4b7c-a5dc-7c8691758770.jpeg]

China and India, two major developing countries and emerging economies, should stick to their own development paths and join hands to safeguard peace and stability in the region and the world, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Friday during a visit in New Delhi, stressing the two sides should place the border issue in a proper position in bilateral relations and manage conflicts to facilitate the development of relations.

Wang proposed a three-point approach to achieving that end - both sides should view bilateral relations with a long-term vision, see each other's development with a win-win mentality, and take part in the multilateral process with a cooperative posture.

Wang, the highest-level Chinese official to visit India since the border clashes at Galwan Valley, made the remarks during his meeting with Indian National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.

KUALA LUMPUR – National women’s singles shuttler S. Kisona failed to make it into the semi-finals of the Swiss Open after losing to world number 30 Supanida Katethong of Thailand 11-21, 12-21.

At the St. Jakobshalle arena in Basel today, Kisona struggled to get ahead of the Thai shuttler in the first set.

The second set seemed hopeful for the Malaysian shuttler, however Katethong maintained her control of the game and closed it out.

In the round of 16 yesterday, 64th-seed Kisona came from behind to defeat former world number one Saina Nehwal of India 17-21, 21-13, 21-13.

Miti agency pushes for subsidy removal, faces govt resistance
Posted by: superadmin - 03-26-2022, 08:55 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: 16012021-KUL-_fueling_at_petrol_station_..._nafis.jpg]

KUALA LUMPUR – If the Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC) has its way, Malaysians could very soon be spending considerably more on several key essential items due to the removal of subsidies.

It is understood that discussions are currently at an advanced stage, with the agency under the International Trade and Industry Ministry (Miti) appearing intent on pushing for what it is termed as a “rationalisation of subsidy”.

Among the subsidies that are being proposed for rationalisation include RON95 fuel as well as agricultural products like sugar and rice.

The proposal has been mooted since the days of Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s prime ministership, but support for it has intensified on the back of a wrenching Covid-19 economic downturn being further aggravated by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which has driven oil and gas prices up.

KUALA LUMPUR: It will be mandatory for automated external defibrillator (AED) devices to be installed at public facilities by 2025, said health minister Khairy Jamaluddin.

He said this will provide the public with better access to an AED, a medical device which delivers electric shocks to restore the heart rhythm of victims of cardiac arrest.
