Malaysia’s total trade rebounds by 13% to RM235bil

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia’s total trade in January 2024 rebounded with a double-digit expansion by 13.3% to RM234.73 billion year-on-year (y-o-y) after registering the 10th consecutive month of contraction, said the investment, trade and industry ministry (Miti).

In a statement, the ministry said exports edged up by 8.7% to RM122.43 billion and imports rose by 18.8% to RM112.3 billion.

It said this was also the highest monthly value recorded for the month of January.

“Meanwhile, the trade surplus amounted to RM10.12 billion and marked the 45th consecutive month of trade surplus since May 2020.
