“Political parties shouldn’t wait till last minute to unveil their GE15 candidates”
[Image: WhatsApp-Image-2022-10-25-at-10.01.19-AM.jpeg]

ALTHOUGH for strategic reasons political parties tend to keep their candidate list for the forthcoming 15th General Election (GE15) close to their chest, it makes valid sense to reveal the identity of their candidates to accord ample time for the electorate to familiarise themselves with the said candidate.

Lawyer and human rights activist Charles Hector finds it awkward that Parliament has been dissolved since Oct 10 and the Ge15 date fixed on Nov 19 yet there is still no certainty or confirmation with regard to party candidates who will be contesting in a particular constituency.

“DAP allegedly has not yet confirmed whether incumbent Charles Santiago will be running in the same seat or a different seat and likewise the case for all political parties,” he opined in his latest blog.

Sarawakian voters told to weed out corruption the “Justice Bao” way
[Image: Judge-Pao-edited.jpg]

VETERAN lawmaker and DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang has re-lived the legacy of now dementia-stricken fifth prime minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi who once spoke of the need to have a “Justice Bao” in Malaysia to fight corruption and abuses of power which never came about.

A former Opposition leader himself, Kit Siang is now calling on Sarawak voters to avail themselves as “Justice Bao” during the 15th General Election (GE15) “by sending the corrupt to jail and to free the innocents”.

“This is important because corruption is most rampant today in six decades of Malaysian history,” he pointed out in a media statement issued in Kuching. “We do not want to lose out to China, India and Indonesia in the battle against corruption and to have a honest and non-corrupt government.”

To the uninitiated, “Justice Bao” whose real name is Bao Zheng (March 5, 999 – July 3, 1062) is honoured as the cultural symbol of justice in Chinese society.

As a judge, Bao consistently demonstrated extreme honesty and uprightness with actions such as sentencing his own uncle, impeaching an uncle of Emperor Renzong’s favourite concubine and punishing powerful families.

During his years in office, Bao gained the honorific title “Justice Bao” due to his ability to defend peasants and commoners against corruption or injustice.

Report: “Inexperience makes Najib’s son unfit for Pekan federal seat”

PEKAN UMNO deputy chief Datuk Seri Zamri Ramly said Datuk Mohd Nizar Najib lacks the experience to stand as a candidate for a parliamentary seat.

This comes amid speculations that Mohd Nizar – former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s eldest son – will most likely be named the Pekan candidate in the forthcoming 15th general election (GE15) to replace Najib who is currently in prison.

On this matter, Zamri told The Star that there was no reason to give Mohd Nizar both the state assembly and parliamentary seats as he lacks experience in politics.

“Let him have a state seat first. He needs to learn. If he shows that he can handle the job as a state assemblyman then we will see about moving him up,” the English daily quoted him as saying.

PETALING JAYA: Perlis will get a menteri besar from PAS if Perikatan Nasional (PN) wins the state, says a Bersatu leader.

State Bersatu chief Abu Bakar Hamzah said PAS would be given this mantle if PN wins since the Islamic party had long been established in Perlis compared to Bersatu and had “extensive experience” in managing a state government.
