PETALING JAYA: Ampang MP Zuraida Kamaruddin will be quitting Muhyiddin Yassin’s Bersatu to join newly formed Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM).
In a statement today, the plantation industries and commodities minister said she will be meeting Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob soon to discuss her resignation from the Cabinet.
Nonetheless, she maintained that she would continue supporting Ismail’s government, in line with PBM’s stand.
Zuraida had joined Bersatu after being sacked from PKR in the wake of the Sheraton Move in 2020.

Zuraida episode a ‘lesson for traitors’, says PKR’s Saifuddin
PETALING JAYA: PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has described Ampang MP Zuraida Kamaruddin’s exit from Bersatu to join Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) as “a lesson for traitors”.
“This Zuraida episode is a lesson that traitors will not be safe in politics. She now has no value,” he told FMT.
Zuraida, a former PKR vice-president, had joined Bersatu after being sacked from the Anwar Ibrahim-led party in the wake of the Sheraton Move in 2020.
Saifuddin said the only logical step for Bersatu now was to ask Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob to remove her from the Cabinet since her ministership was based on the party’s quota.

We knew Zuraida was involved in PBM, says Muhyiddin
PETALING JAYA: Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin said the party knew that Zuraida Kamaruddin, who quit the party today, was involved in Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM).
Muhyiddin said the party had discussed her position in Bersatu following reports the Ampang MP was involved in the formation of PBM, the party led largely by former PKR leaders.
“In the wake of those reports, we issued a show-cause letter to her on May 9, which she replied on May 23,” Muhyiddin said in a statement.
“Our next step was to refer her to the party’s disciplinary board. However, since she announced her departure from the party today, her membership has been terminated immediately.”

Like rats abandoning sinking ship, more MPs set to flee Bersatu
KUALA LUMPUR – Ampang MP Datuk Seri Zuraida Kamaruddin’s exit from Bersatu is merely the tip of the iceberg, which will see more MPs defecting or seeking greener pastures elsewhere, observed political analysts.
Universiti Sains Malaysia’s political scientist Ahmad Fauzi Abdul Hamid told The Vibes that the beginning of the end for Bersatu started when its president, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, was ousted as the prime minister in August of last year.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if more Bersatu members leave as we inch nearer to GE15 (the 15th general election). Most of them, while still carrying the Umno DNA, opportunistically jumped on the anti-Umno bandwagon in the pre-GE14 and immediate post-GE14 era.
“Up till today, even after having produced two prime ministers, Bersatu still lacks a clear long-term vision and is still struggling to find ground among grassroots voters.

Bersatu ‘unlikely to retaliate’ if Ismail retains Zuraida
PETALING JAYA: Political analysts do not expect Bersatu to pull the rug from under Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s feet if he decides to retain Ampang MP Zuraida Kamaruddin as a Cabinet minister.
Political analyst Azmi Hassan of Akademi Nusantara said Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin was unlikely to retaliate and thus trigger an early general election.

Delay in decision on Zuraida shows PM’s weak position, says Nur Jazlan
PETALING JAYA: The delay in making a decision on Zuraida Kamaruddin’s Cabinet post is indicative of Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s weak position, says Johor Umno deputy chief Nur Jazlan Mohamed.
“It is just a mess and reflects his weak position,” Nur Jazlan said. “He is unable to make decisions or assert his authority because he is being held to ransom by certain quarters.
“The fact that he is dragging his feet shows that he could be buying time. It’s already been more than two weeks since she left Bersatu for Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) and she is still in the Cabinet. Never has an Umno prime minister been this weak in the nation’s history.”
Nur Jazlan was commenting on Ismail not saying whether the plantation industries and commodities minister would be dropped and replaced with another Bersatu MP or that he would continue to let her keep the position until the next general election (GE15).

How will Ismail Sabri confront challenges to his precarious leadership? – Patriot
DATUK Zuraida Kamaruddin, the outgoing plantation industries and commodities minister had on May 26 quit Bersatu, a member party of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition to join Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM).
Her seat has yet to be replaced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob. Wonder what is stopping him from acting decisively as the nation’s leader against Zuraida’s transgression?
The latest acrobatic stunt by the trademark “party-hopping Zuraida” has got tongues wagging all over again.
What remains highly suspect and questionable is the fact that she first joined a political party that supports the incumbent ruling party of Ismail Sabri.
With her quitting the very party that gave her the ministerial appointment, will Ismail Sabri marshall his political will and have the gumption to remove Zuraida from the cabinet, given her betrayal to the party?
