PETALING JAYA: Amanah president Mohamad Sabu has admitted that Pakatan Harapan’s loss of the Malay community’s support was among the main reasons the coalition failed to win the Melaka state elections last week.

Mohamad said the coalition’s heavy defeat served as a lesson for it to evaluate the true climate of Malaysian politics.

“We saw that PH has lost the support of the Malays. It’s good that the Melaka polls were held, allowing us to measure the real situation. Therefore, PH will be meeting this coming Monday to discuss this matter,” he said after a party event in Kelantan.

“The main thing we need to do is to have more allies than opponents and get rid of the negative perceptions that have been planted against PH. These perceptions aren’t even accurate,” he told Utusan Malaysia.

He claimed that Kelantan, governed by PAS, had enjoyed greater benefits with a PH government in Putrajaya, citing a one-off RM400 million allocation to Kelantan in 2020, prior to the collapse of the PH federal government.
