PAS may just have to return to Umno’s side, says academic

PETALING JAYA: The Islamic party PAS may have no choice but to return to the Muafakat Nasional (MN) fold with Umno after its abysmal performance in the Melaka election tonight, an academic said.

Azmi Hassan also said the party would have to rethink its affiliation with Perikatan Nasional, under whose ticket it contested in the state elections, as it lost in all its eight seats.

“PAS has no choice since PN did badly,” he told FMT.

PAS had decided to contest under the PN banner, which led to some predicting the demise of MN, a pact it forged with Umno in 2019.
