PETALING JAYA: There is no need for a vote of confidence in Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin to be taken if a purported letter from Dewan Rakyat Speaker Azhar Azizan Harun is true, says Umno vice-president Mohamed Khaled Nordin.

In the letter that went viral, Azhar allegedly confirmed to the King that Muhyiddin had the support of only 100 MPs in the Dewan Rakyat.

Khaled said if the letter was authentic, it meant that the Dewan Rakyat Speaker had confirmed that Muhyiddin had lost his majority, and the prime minister should therefore resign immediately.

“In this situation, the prime minister no longer needs to test his support in the Dewan Rakyat. He is aware of the true amount of support he has.

“Therefore, he must immediately comply with Article 43(4) of the Federal Constitution, which states that he has to resign or advise the King to dissolve Parliament,” he said in a Facebook post today.
