Zahid’s statement alone means nothing, says Zaid

PETALING JAYA: Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s announcement that the party was withdrawing support for Muhyiddin Yassin as prime minister means nothing by itself, according to Zaid Ibrahim.

Speaking to FMT, the former Umno man said there seemed to be no clarity as to what the party leadership wanted to do or hoped to achieve following its decision, or what comes next.

“The statement doesn’t impact the actual majority support for the prime minister. They must clarify their next step and say, as a party, that all have to act according to the wishes of the party.

“The party then has to make sure its decision will be observed in Parliament and elsewhere. Unless you state this clearly, nothing is going to happen and the issue of the prime minister and his majority support will be as it is,” he said.

He added that Attorney-General Idrus Harun’s statement that Muhyiddin remained the prime minister until his parliamentary majority was tested in the Dewan Rakyat was accurate.
