FORMER premier and Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has claimed trial for one count of money laundering involving RM5 mil linked to the Jana Wibawa programme.

The Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman had arrived at the Shah Alam Sessions Court at around 8.20am this morning to face one more charge for money laundering before judge Rozilah Salleh.

The money laundering charge laid out under Section 4(1)(b) of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001, read with Section 87(1) of the same Act, accused the 76-year-old of receiving RM5 mil in proceeds from the illegal activities from Bukhary Equity Sdn Bhd, and into Bersatu’s account on Jan 7, 2022.

The Pagoh MP may be jailed for up to 15 years and fined five times the amount involved or RM5 mil whichever is higher.

In a brief media conference after hearing the charge against him, the Bersatu president said that the court has agreed to move his cases to the Kuala Lumpur court.

KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will be applying for a remand order against Mohd Hussein Mohd Nasir, dubbed “Datuk Roy”.

The anti-graft agency is expected to head to the magistrates’ court today to submit the application.

The wanted 54-year-old, who was wanted by the MACC, turned himself in yesterday, reported The Star.

It was reported that Hussein had been charged and sentenced to jail on a corruption offence.

He was also said to be a key planner in a corruption case involving soliciting and taking bribes amounting to RM400,000 to avoid investigation into the Jana Wibawa programme.

Earlier, the MACC had picked up one of its own officers and three other individuals, including a woman, who was released on bail. The three other suspects are remanded until today.

Prosecution to file appeal against Muhyiddin's acquittal over abuse of power charges on Tuesday afternoon

KUAKUALA LUMPUR (Aug 15): The prosecution will be filing a notice of appeal over the High Court's decision to strike out Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin's abuse of power charges on Tuesday (Aug 15) afternoon.

Deputy public prosecutor Datuk Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin, who is also the head of prosecution at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, said the prosecution will also make a stay application when the case is called up before the Sessions Court to fix trial dates on Sept 19.

"The prosecution has received instructions to appeal against the High Court decision, and the notice will be filed this afternoon.

"We will also seek a stay of proceedings over the three money-laundering charges," he added.

He said the prosecution has to appeal against the High Court's decision as it had acquitted and discharged the former prime minister of the four abuse of power charges without going through a trial.

Wan Shaharuddin added that the prosecution will also make an appeal in the Court of Appeal.
