Women make up a large number of those killed in a deadly campaign of targeted attacks on civil society in Afghanistan by extremist groups opposed to them working outside the home.
One television station in the eastern city of Jalalabad has been forced to send all its female staff home for their own safety, after four young female employees were killed in recent months.

PETALING JAYA: Umno has received approval from the National Security Council (MKN) to hold its annual general assembly this weekend, party secretary-general Ahmad Maslan said.
In a tweet, he said attendance was capped at 50% capacity in Dewan Merdeka, which has a maximum seating of 3,000, at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (formerly known as Putra World Trade Centre, or PWTC).
The general assembly would also be subject to the standard operating procedures (SOP) under the conditional movement control order (CMCO) implemented in Kuala Lumpur, including the wearing of face masks and physical distancing.
Previously, Ahmad was reported as saying that the general assembly would be carried out through a combination of physical and virtual meetings.

- The 10-year Chinese government bond yields 3.2%, while the U.S. 10-year Treasury yield is much lower at around 1.7%.
- “U.S. investors continue to be very interested in investing in (the) Chinese market,” Tao Wang, head of Asia economics and chief China economist at UBS, said Thursday during a webinar with the Institute of International Finance. “Especially from the bond market perspective, there is a structural increase in the interest.”
- In just two years, foreign holdings of Chinese government bonds have nearly doubled to over 2 trillion yuan ($307.7 billion), according to data from Wind Information.

Goldman Sachs Must Open Its Books On The 1MDB Settlement As Concerns Deepen In KL |

The howls of protest have been theatrical. Bersatu’s Wan Saiful today thundered that any suggestion that money might have leaked from the rushed, cut-price 1MDB settlement with Goldman Sachs engineered by the PN government (allegedly RM500 million in dodgy fees and commissions) amounts to vile ‘slander’ and ‘character assassination’.
Quote:“I vehemently deny this slander. No agents were appointed. No commissions were received. This is not the culture in Bersatu.”
The rebel party-hopper continued to somewhat growing amusement:
Quote:“The party was formed to fight for integrity and transparent governance. Our commitment is to ensure that the 1MDB case is resolved promptly, all those guilty receive justice, and the plundered state funds are returned for the benefit of the people,”
Malaysians who have spent the past year as the unfortunate spectators of one of the most blatantly corrupted exercises in political power grabbing, divisions of spoils, conflicts of interest, parcelling of projects and sheer abandonment of the principles of the constitution will largely disagree.
However, Wan Saiful plainly is an interested party and may not see things as others do. So that he may prove his points, we therefore invite this self-proclaimed intellectual to exercise his advanced understanding of the precepts of democracy and foundations of the rule of law to adopt a simple solution.

Top Senate Republican says Americans don't need 'alternative versions' of January 6 Capitol attack
(CNN)Sen. Roy Blunt, a member of GOP leadership, argued on Sunday that Americans don't need "alternative versions" of what occurred the day of the US Capitol insurrection, pushing back on Republican Sen. Ron Johnson's comments that mischaracterize the riot and its participants.
"We don't need to try and explain away or come up with alternative versions. We all saw what happened," Blunt told NBC's "Meet the Press" of January 6, when a mob of former President Donald Trump supporters stormed the Capitol in an attempt to stop Congress from certifying the 2020 election, clashed with law enforcement, ransacked congressional offices and threatened the lives of then-Vice President Mike Pence and lawmakers.
Calling January 6 "a terrible day for America," the Missouri Republican said, "I think it was absolutely unacceptable and we can't let that kind of thing be repeated again in our country."
