KUALA LUMPUR: Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan has listed three key things his party must understand before going into the 15th general election if it aims to win the polls.
Mohamad, also known as Tok Mat, said Umno must not confuse who its real enemies are, adding that “wolves in sheep’s clothing” were more destructive to the party.
He also said Umno needs to address members of the party who pretend to support the party but whose “souls” are easily bought.

IndigoTrout2522: The rakyat is not blind or deaf. Anyone could see the fall of the Harapan government was attributed to Mahathir.
He encouraged Azmin and gang to go against Anwar. He did not honour his promise to hand over the PM post and consistently made different excuses for the delay.
As PM, he did not implement the Harapan manifesto as agreed. Now, his son is trying to deny everything.
His most trusted aides and co-conspirators betrayed him, and he betrayed Harapan and then tried to blame everyone but himself. The game started with him and is still playing it while the nation and people suffer.

‘Explosive’ Umno assembly shaping up over PPBM ties |

KUALA LUMPUR: After being postponed for a year following the global Covid-19 pandemic, Umno delegates will finally come together this weekend at what is deemed the party’s most important general assembly for years.
This is because the delegates will be deciding on Umno’s crucial direction, which includes endorsing the party’s Supreme Council decision not to cooperate with PPBM when facing the next general election.
Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan said the motion to sever ties with PPBM will obviously be dominating the flow of the party’s assembly.
“Between Jan 1-3, a total of 760 meetings were convened involving Umno Youth, Puteri and Wanita members in 190 divisions except for the suspended Tanah Merah division in Kelantan. The main motion raised by 124 out of 190 divisions was for Umno to have no cooperation with PPBM,” he said.

KUALA LUMPUR, March 26 ― Electoral watchdog Bersih 2.0 has demanded today for Election Commission (EC) chairman Datuk Abdul Ghani Salleh to resign immediately for delaying the implementation of lower voting age (Undi18) and automatic voter registration (AVR).
In a statement, Bersih 2.0 accused the EC’s action of akin to betraying the young voters and robbing them of their rights to the shape the future of the country.
“EC chairperson Datuk Abdul Ghani Salleh should immediately resign to make way for a successor who has the integrity and competence to implement the lowering of voting age to 18 and AVR by July 2021 as planned.
“The EC’s decision is a robbery of the rights of about four million Malaysians aged 18-20 to shape the direction of the country at the polls, when the next federal, state or by-election is called,” it said in a statement.

- The U.S. will remain wealthier than China — measured by GDP per capita — for at least the next 50 years, said Simon Baptist, global chief economist at the Economist Intelligence Unit.
- His comment followed Joe Biden’s first official press conference since taking office, during which the U.S. president said he will not let China become “the leading country” globally.
- The latest available data by the International Monetary Fund showed China’s GDP per capita was forecast to be $10,582.10 last year, roughly six times smaller than $63,051.40 in the U.S.
The U.S. will remain wealthier than China for the next 50 years or more — long after the Asian economy is expected to overtake the U.S. to become the world’s largest, an economist said on Friday.
“I think it’s very unlikely that ... China will get to U.S. levels of GDP per capita — that’s our measure of wealth — for at least the next 50 years if ever,” Simon Baptist, global chief economist at the Economist Intelligence Unit, told CNBC’s “Street Signs Asia.”
GDP per capita measures an economy’s output per person and is a common gauge of prosperity.
The latest International Monetary Fund data available showed China’s GDP per capita was forecast to be $10,582.10 in 2020 — roughly six times smaller than $63,051.40 in the U.S.

- A first-quarter survey by the China Beige Book released Thursday found that borrowing by state-owned enterprises dropped to the lowest in the study’s roughly 10-year history.
- Given ties to the state, the government-linked companies are the “best signal” on authorities’ policy intent, China Beige Book Managing Director Shehzad Qazi said in a note.
- While Qazi noted more quarterly data will be needed to tell whether China has fully in a “deleveraging” mode again, there are other signs that authorities are trying to control debt.
BEIJING — Data for the year so far show signs that China is starting to crack down on debt.
A first-quarter survey by the China Beige Book released Thursday found that borrowing by state-owned enterprises dropped to the lowest in the study’s roughly 10-year history. Overall borrowing fell to its lowest in three years, while that of large firms hit a five-year low, the report said.
Given ties to the state, the government-linked companies are the “best signal” on authorities’ policy intent, China Beige Book Managing Director Shehzad Qazi said in a note. The company conducts quarterly surveys of businesses in China.
Economists note China’s relatively low GDP target of over 6% this year gives policymakers the ability to address problems such as high debt levels, without needing to worry too much about growth. Prior to the coronavirus pandemic last year, China had attempted to curb that debt growth with mixed results.

Nonsensical, KJ tells EC on Undi18 delay |

PETALING JAYA: Khairy Jamaluddin has criticised the Election Commission for delaying the implementation of Undi18 on grounds that the movement restrictions had hampered its planning and preparations.
“It’s nonsensical. The movement control order was implemented a year ago,” the science, technology and innovation minister said in a statement.
He also said the law minister had said in November the July 2021 deadline to implement the automatic registration of 18-year-olds as voters would remain.
“But barely five months after the minister said this at the Dewan Rakyat, the EC says it would only be implemented over a year from now, that is after September 2022.”
Khairy said the EC needed to clarify its need for more discussions with other political parties and non-governmental organisations as Undi18 had already been approved by Parliament.
“These stakeholder meetings should have been able to take place without the slightest need to affect the previous deadline,” he said.

Undi18 announces legal suit against Putrajaya after EC delays registration of young voters
KUALA LUMPUR, March 26 — Persatuan Pengundi Muda, also known as Undi18, has announced today its legal action against the government after the Election Commission (EC) yesterday announced the delay registration of voters between 18 and 20 years’ old.
In a statement, the group said the action aims to compel the EC to do so and is expected to be filed in one week on April 2.
“In light of recent developments, Undi18 strongly believes that youths between the ages of 18 and 20 should not be denied their constitutional right to vote.
“We believe that every vote matters in a democracy. Hence, further delay on the implementation of the Undi18 Bill systematically discriminates against the voices of the youth,” the group said.
