Huawei chairman says the ‘aim is to survive’ as revenue slides 29%
Posted by: superadmin - 08-06-2021, 07:12 PM - Forum: Business, Economy and Investment - No Replies

  • The Shenzhen-headquartered company, which was put on the U.S. trade blacklist in 2019, announced Friday that it generated 320.4 billion yuan ($49.6 billion) in revenue in the first half of 2021. It’s a significant fall from the 454 billion yuan that Huawei recorded in the first half of 2020.
  • Huawei said it recorded a 9.8% profit margin, which is its highest since 2019, and added that the overall performance was in line with forecasts.

The chairman of Huawei said the Chinese technology company’s “aim is to survive” as revenue fell almost 30% in the first half of the year.

The Shenzhen-headquartered company, which was put on the U.S. trade blacklist in 2019, announced Friday that it generated 320.4 billion yuan ($49.6 billion) in revenue in the first half of 2021. It’s a significant fall from the 454 billion yuan that Huawei recorded in the first half of 2020.

Huawei said its profit margin grew 0.6% to 9.8%, largely as a result of efficiency improvements, and added that the overall performance was in line with forecasts.

Eric Xu, Huawei’s rotating chairman, said in a statement that the company had set its strategic goals for the next five years.

“Our aim is to survive, and to do so sustainably,” he said.

Former U.S. President Donald Trump put Huawei on an export blacklist in 2019, a move that prevents American firms from doing business with it. For instance, Google was no longer allowed to license its Android mobile operating system to Huawei.

Another Umno minister quits – this time it’s Noraini
Posted by: superadmin - 08-06-2021, 07:00 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

PETALING JAYA: Higher education minister Noraini Ahmad has resigned following her party’s decision to withdraw support for the Perikatan Nasional-led government.

The Wanita Umno chief’s resignation comes on the heels of a press conference by deputy prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob, where he claimed that 31 Barisan Nasional MPs were still backing the PN government.

He had told reporters that he was unaware of Noraini’s stand as their attempts to contact her were unsuccessful.

Noraini’s resignation follows that of Shamsul Anuar Nasarah, who resigned as the government’s energy and natural resources minister on Tuesday, citing his loyalty to the party.

In a statement, Noraini thanked Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin for giving her the chance to helm the ministry, but said she had to resign to abide by her party’s stand.

King Advised Mahiaddin Three Times To Resign!
Posted by: superadmin - 08-06-2021, 05:42 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

Sarawak Report has received information via reliable sources connected to royal circles which indicates that ONCE AGAIN the prime minister has sought to deceptively massage what the King has communicated to him.

Just last week the monarch was forced to make a public statement rebutting claims by Mahiaddin and his legal spokesman that he had given royal assent to a surprise revocation of the State of Emergency, in order to avoid the matter being debated and voted on in Parliament.

Faced with the exposure of his lies the prime minister suspended the session that he had been pressured to hold for this very purpose by a direct order of the King acting together with the Council of Rulers.

Umno polls’ postponement invalid, says RoS
Posted by: superadmin - 08-06-2021, 04:41 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: LOGO-UMNO-PERGERAKAN-PEMUDA-UMNO-PAU-FMT-051219.jpg]

PETALING JAYA: The Registrar of Societies has ruled that Umno’s decision to postpone its party elections by up to 18 months is invalid, and has ordered the party to set a new date for the Supreme Council elections as soon as possible.

In a letter to Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan, RoS director-general Jasri Kasim said the postponement was not legitimate as the term for Supreme Council members elected in 2018 had ended on June 30.

He added that RoS’ decision was based on meeting minutes from a Supreme Council meeting on July 7 – after its term ended – where it decided to postpone the party polls at all levels.

“RoS views that the duration for Supreme Council office bearers for the 2018/2021 term ended on June 30. Hence, the Supreme Council’s decision to postpone the party elections at all levels for 18 months on July 7 is invalid.

“A new date needs to be set to hold the Umno Supreme Council elections, taking SOP compliance into account and informing the RoS as soon as possible.”

PM has effectively lost his majority now, say analysts
Posted by: superadmin - 08-06-2021, 04:36 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

PETALING JAYA: The announcement that 31 out of 42 Barisan Nasional (BN) MPs will continue to support Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s administration has shown that it no longer has majority support, say political analysts.

They pointed out that the government now only has 104 MPs on its side, with 11 BN MPs against the government and the remaining 105 MPs in the opposition.

This comes after deputy prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob claimed 31 parliamentarians from the BN coalition were still supporting the government, though not all could be present at a press conference held today.

“I think Ismail wanted to help him (the prime minister), but by doing so, he actually officially and publicly demonstrated that, objectively, Muhyiddin has lost parliamentary majority,” said Oh Ei Sun of the Singapore Institute of International Affairs.

He stressed that this did not automatically mean that the opposition could take over, as the remaining 11 BN MPs have yet to clarify who they wanted for the country’s top leadership post.

Civil war in BN: How the MPs stack up

PETALING JAYA: The split in Barisan Nasional (BN) has now been made clear with claims of 31 of the coalition’s 42 MPs openly declaring their continued support for Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government.

Deputy prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob, who revealed this at a press conference today, said these BN MPs were merely complying with the King’s decree for them to continue supporting the PN administration until the confidence vote in Parliament next month.

Although only 18 of them were on stage with him, Ismail said the remaining 12 MPs were unable to be present for various reasons but they had pledged their support for PN and Muhyiddin.

Here is a list of those MPs and where they stand:

Thanks for confirming PN no longer has majority, Ismail told
Posted by: superadmin - 08-06-2021, 02:48 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

PETALING JAYA: Umno veteran Shahrir Samad has sarcastically thanked deputy prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob for his announcement that 31 Barisan Nasional MPs are still backing the government.

Shahrir said Ismail’s announcement helped confirm that the government had lost its majority support, with only 31 out of 42 BN MPs supporting Muhyiddin Yassin’s administration.

The former Johor Bahru MP said this meant that the Perikatan Nasional government, which was said to have a majority of 115 seats previously, only had the support of 104 MPs.

“In the end, all they have done is publicly confirm that the PN government has 103 MPs at the moment, subject to, of course, others who might jump over (from the opposition).

“They will need seven more MPs to jump over just to get a simple majority. But what kind of government is it going to be? Can they perform? They can’t because their leader is weak.

31 BN MPs to continue backing govt, says Ismail
Posted by: superadmin - 08-06-2021, 12:23 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional MPs will continue to support the Perikatan Nasional government, deputy prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced today.

At a press conference joined by 17 other MPs, the Umno vice-president claimed that the BN MPs were complying with the King’s decree for them to continue supporting the PN administration.

Ismail claimed that in total, 31 BN MPs were supporting the government, though not all could be present.

Those who were present included MCA and MIC presidents Wee Ka Siong and M Saravanan, national unity minister Halimah Sadique, former Umno elections director Tajuddin Abdul Rahman, Padang Rengas MP Nazri Aziz and Arau MP Shahidan Kassim.

Ismail said Istana Negara was no longer receiving statutory declarations on the prime minister’s majority.

Umno MPs who defy party wishes risk suspension, sacking
Posted by: superadmin - 08-06-2021, 12:05 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: Idris-Jusoh-n-Ismail-Abd.-Muttalib-collage-060821.jpg]

PETALING JAYA: Umno MPs who go against the party by backing the Perikatan Nasional government risk having disciplinary action taken against them, a party leader warned.

The leader, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said Article 20.8 of Umno’s constitution lists what is required of each member, while Article 20.9 stipulates the actions that can be taken against members who breach the party’s constitution and code of conduct.

Article 20.8, the leader said, states that members must toe the party line and adhere to its decisions. “The constitution is also clear on adherence to the code of conduct and realising the party’s policies.”

The warning comes in the wake of two Umno MPs – Idris Jusoh and Ismail Abd Muttalib – declaring that they would continue to back Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s leadership.

Climate crisis: Scientists spot warning signs of Gulf Stream collapse
Posted by: superadmin - 08-06-2021, 11:13 AM - Forum: Environment Protection News - No Replies

[Image: 8402.jpg?width=620&quality=85&auto=forma...6ad971652f]

Climate scientists have detected warning signs of the collapse of the Gulf Stream, one of the planet’s main potential tipping points.

The research found “an almost complete loss of stability over the last century” of the currents that researchers call the Atlantic meridional overturning circulation (AMOC). The currents are already at their slowest point in at least 1,600 years, but the new analysis shows they may be nearing a shutdown.

Such an event would have catastrophic consequences around the world, severely disrupting the rains that billions of people depend on for food in India, South America and West Africa; increasing storms and lowering temperatures in Europe; and pushing up the sea level in the eastern North America. It would also further endanger the Amazon rainforest and Antarctic ice sheets.
