PETALING JAYA: Muda still needs to work on engaging voters on the ground to gain their trust, according to party vice-president Lim Wei Jiet.
In an interview with FMT, Lim said: “We need to show voters that we are trying to fight for them, instead of being people who only come around every five years to exploit their votes.”
The youth-based party, formed by former youth and sports minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, was officially registered with the Registrar of Societies last December and made its debut in the Johor elections in March.

When Russia, China and other countries expressed their concerns over US biological activities in countries including Ukraine at a UN Security Council meeting on Wednesday, the US did not show up, which in some Chinese experts' eyes, was out of the US' "guilty conscience" over the issue.
At the UN Security Council Arria Formula Meeting on Biological Security on Wednesday, Igor Kirillov, chief of the Radiation, Chemical and Biological Defense Forces of the Russian Armed Forces, said Washington is creating biological laboratories in different countries and connecting them to a unified system. In territories bordering Russia and China alone, about 60 facilities have been modernized since 2005 with funding from the US military, he said. Kirillov noted that the US has spent more than $5 billion on military biological programs since 2005.

US, NATO seek united front with Asia-Pacific allies to isolate Russia, pressure China over Ukraine crisis
South Korean and Japanese foreign ministers were invited to join the high-profile NATO session on Thursday for the first time as NATO seeks to gain cooperation from Asia to isolate Russia and pressure China over the Ukraine crisis. But analysts said the US is coercing more countries to choose sides in the crisis and using it as an opportunity to help NATO's global expansion.
The NATO Foreign Ministers meeting in Brussels agreed to sustain and further strengthen support for Ukraine, and step up cooperation with partners, given the global implications of Russia's action in Ukraine, according to a statement released after the meeting on Thursday.

The sixth mass extinction is happening now, and it doesn’t look good for us – Corey Bradshaw
MOUNTING evidence is pointing to the world having entered a sixth mass extinction. If the current rate of extinction continues, we could lose most species by 2200. The implication for human health and wellbeing is dire, but not inevitable.
In the timeline of fossil evidence going right back to the first inkling of any life on Earth – over 3.5 billion years ago – almost 99% of all species that have ever existed are now extinct. That means that as species evolve over time – a process known as ‘speciation’ – they replace other species that go extinct.
Extinctions and speciations do not happen at uniform rates through time; instead, they tend to occur in large pulses interspersed by long periods of relative stability. These extinction pulses are what scientists refer to as mass extinction events.
The Cambrian explosion was a burst of speciation some 540 million years ago. Since then, at least five mass extinction events have been identified in the fossil record (and probably scores of smaller ones).

Peter Thiel calls Warren Buffett a ‘sociopathic grandpa from Omaha’ and bitcoin’s ‘enemy number one’ - At a bitcoin conference in Miami, venture investor Peter Thiel presented a slideshow that included criticisms of financial opinion leaders who he says are trying to stop the cryptocurrency.
- Thiel called Warren Buffett a “sociopathic grandpa from Omaha.”
- He also took aim at JPMorgan’s Jamie Dimon and BlackRock’s Larry Fink.
At a bitcoin conference on Thursday, billionaire venture capitalist Peter Thiel said Warren Buffett tops an “enemies list” of people who are trying to stop the cryptocurrency.
“Enemy number one,” Thiel said to a booing Miami crowd, is “the sociopathic grandpa from Omaha.” Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway is based in Omaha, Neb.
Thiel, who by 2018 had reportedly amassed hundreds of millions of dollars worth of bitcoin through venture firm Founders Fund, also called out JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon and BlackRock CEO Larry Fink. Thiel presented large graphics with images of the two financial executives and their bearish comments about bitcoin.
The images all contained the word “gerontocracy.” About Dimon, Thiel said his views are part of “the New York City banker bias.”

PAS banking on Taliban to improve Islamic image, says Bukit Aman’s counter-terrorism chief
PETALING JAYA: PAS is banking on the Taliban to improve its Islamic image, Bukit Aman’s counter-terrorism chief Normah Ishak said today.
Speaking in a webinar titled “Next Generation Afghan Alumni? Assessment from Southeast Asia”, Normah said PAS did so when praising the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan after the US troops withdrew from the country in August last year.
She cited PAS International Affairs and External Relations committee chairman Khalil Abdul Hadi’s congratulatory message on Aug 18.
Khalil, who is PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang’s son, posted a tweet in which he said the Taliban had “liberated” Afghanistan after it had been colonised and invaded. The tweet was subsequently deleted.

PETALING JAYA: Newly elected DAP secretary-general Loke Siew Fook holds the ideal position to dispel negative perceptions of the party, say political analysts.
Ahmad Fauzi Abdul Hamid of Universiti Sains Malaysia said with DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang having retired from politics, and his son Guan Eng no longer its secretary-general, Loke was well positioned to ward off accusations that DAP was a nepotistic party.
“Loke needs to emphasise the fact that Kit Siang and Guan Eng’s previous predominance in the party was owed to their merits and capabilities, not due to their blood relationship,” Ahmad Fauzi told FMT.
“Kit Siang’s electoral record speaks for itself. Whether you put him in Melaka, Penang, Perak or Johor, he’s more than able to pull off a victory.”

Title decider? Or another twist in the tale?
Given the hype, you’d think the English Premier League trophy was being presented at the Etihad on Sunday night.
Yes, Manchester City vs Liverpool is a genuine heavyweight contest with both sides more than ready to rumble.
Yes, a win would be massively advantageous to either. But it’s not the end: neither of elaborate plans nor everything that stands, to borrow from The Doors.
Says Jurgen Klopp: “If we win against City, which is difficult enough, nobody will think ‘That’s decided’ because of the quality of the opponent.”
Nor because there will still be seven more league games to go.
Not to mention FA Cup and Champions League encounters which could still impact the title race.

KUALA LUMPUR – The Chinese community is still in favour of voting for DAP because they view the party as “the protector” of their communal interests, Bersatu youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal claimed.
In a series of TikTok videos uploaded on his private Twitter account last night, Wan Fayshal said this goes to show that identity politics is not only practised by Malay voters, but also by the said ethnic group.
“Why we vote on the racial line is because we do believe that these political parties not only represent Malaysian interests but also their communal interests,” he said.
