KUALA LUMPUR: Sabah Umno chief Bung Moktar Radin has come to the defence of party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi in the wake of Barisan Nasional’s disastrous outing in the 15th general election (GE15).
Bung said Umno leaders needed to take collective responsibility and the blame should not rest squarely on Zahid.
“But it should not come to that level (of Zahid stepping down from the post),” he said, referring to calls for Zahid to resign.
“All Umno leaders must take responsibility. If there is a need to step down, then everyone has to do it,” he said when met after attending the Umno political bureau meeting here.

KUALA LUMPUR: Veteran opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim, who has come tantalisingly close to leading Malaysia during his tumultuous political career, is suddenly on the cusp of clinching the top job – but a final hurdle stands in his way.
Anwar’s reformist coalition won 82 parliamentary seats in the general election (GE15), the biggest haul among the competing blocs. While it’s short of the majority needed to form a government, it puts him in prime position to forge an alliance to do so.
The only catch? The 75-year-old politician may have to do a controversial deal with his longtime nemesis.
Barisan Nasional (BN), the pro-Malay coalition that has ruled Malaysia almost uninterruptedly since independence in 1957, finds itself in the unlikely position of potential kingmaker after a washout performance left it far short of forming a government but with enough seats to tip the balance to decide who does.

Snowfall tops 6 feet in western New York, triggering road closures and flight cancellations the weekend before Thanksgiving
CNN — A historic snowstorm is slamming western New York state Saturday with more than 6 feet of snow in some places, closing roads, triggering driving bans and canceling flights the weekend before the Thanksgiving holiday.
Another round of heavy lake-effect snowfall is expected to return to the Buffalo area Saturday night, according to the National Weather Service. With most of the heavy snow bands falling over Lake Ontario, north of metro Buffalo on Saturday afternoon.
“Even though the band will be moving quickly, it is possible that additional amounts around a half foot or so could occur across the Buffalo metro area,” the National Weather Service said.
On Saturday afternoon, New York Governor Kathy Hochul touted the state’s storm preparedness and said crews have been working tirelessly to manage the situation.
“This is the effort we’ve brought together: bringing resources, people, equipment from all over the state of New York. And because we were so preemptive in this strike, we were able to avert many tragedies,” Hochul said.
She thanked western New Yorkers for shutting down major highways, implementing travel bans and staying home before the snow started to fall which helped prevent accidents, protect human life and ensure roads are safe and clear for emergency services.

Malaysia GE 15: Muhyiddin, Anwar make rival claims about forming next government |

Malaysia election 2022: Muhyiddin, Anwar make rival claims about forming next government after massive ‘green wave’ in favour of Islamists - The Islamist PAS has powered a conservative ‘green wave’ among rural Malay voters disenchanted with constant bickering among the country’s main parties, observers say
- The election remains too close to call, though heavyweights such as elder statesman Mahathir Mohamad and finance minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz have been defeated
Polling has officially closed for Malaysia’s 15th general election, as voter turnout defied expectations in what is arguably the most hotly contested polls the country has seen.
The latest data from the Election Commission showed 14.7 million people – or 70 per cent of 21 million eligible voters – had cast their votes as of 4pm local time, exceeding the previous record of around 12.4 million votes cast in 2018.
Still, that figure is some distance from the 82 per cent turnout in the 2018 vote. There are some 6 million new voters this time around, following new legislation lowering the voting age to 18 from 21 and enabling automatic voter registration.
Observers previously suggested a low turnout was a possibility amid apathy surrounding the country’s spin-dryer politics, which has seen three prime ministers govern the country since 2018’s vote.
This election is also unprecedented in that three distinct coalitions are vying for the right to lead the nation for the next five years – the Umno-led Barisan Nasional, multiracial Pakatan Harapan and Malay nationalist Perikatan Nasional.

IPOH – Perak PN deputy chairman, Razman Zakaria announced that the coalition has secured 26 state seats, shy of 30 required to form a simple majority in the state assembly.
As such, Razman said they are open to talk with other coalitions, specifically with BN, to form a stable government.
“However, we are clear that we will not be with PH…we are clear on our policy of ‘No Anwar, No DAP’,” he told the press, referring to PH chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Official results have placed PH with 24 seats and BN with 9.
No single coalition has a simple majority to form the state government, which possesses 59 state seats. – The Vibes, November 20, 2022

ONE peddles hope, the other stability, and another champions one race.
Essentially, these are the choices of Malaysians going to the polls tomorrow.
At the end of the day, it is expected that these three coalitions: Pakatan Harapan (PH), Barisan Nasional (BN), and Perikatan Nasional (PN) will dominate the 22 million ballots that are expected to be cast nationwide.
Sabah and Sarawak will be looking at these three options to decide who they shall align with at the federal level to gain influence and affluence for their respective territories, and the long awaited equal treatment.
The last four-and-a-half years have been eventful, if not tumultuous, with PH being given the mandate to govern in 2018, only for all of that to come crashing down 22 months later through in-fighting and political guile.
In the pandemic that followed soon after, Malaysians were at the mercy of an autocratic administration in PN, which suspended Parliament via an emergency.

PETALING JAYA: A think tank has cited former prime minister Najib Razak’s absence and Barisan Nasional’s decision to drop a number of warlords as reasons why the coalition has lost the advantage it had going into the general election (GE15).
Ilham Centre said when Parliament was dissolved, BN’s rivals were disorganised and unprepared but the coalition failed to take advantage of the situation.
“Everything changed after the candidates were announced,” it said in a statement, adding BN was seen to be disunited, which made them unconvincing to voters.

KUALA LUMPUR: Pakatan Harapan (PH) has lodged a police report against Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Muhyiddin Yassin over his claim that PH was involved in an agenda to “Christianise” the country.
The report was lodged by PH strategic director Bryan Ng and PKR Youth’s communications director Syaril Showkat Ali at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters.
In his police report, Ng said the excerpt of Muhyiddin’s speech at a ceramah recently had gone viral on Tik Tok. The former prime minister is believed to have made the allegation at a ceramah event in Parit Jawa, Johor, on Nov 16.
