PETALING JAYA: An analyst has urged PAS not to get carried away by its success in capturing the Malay vote, saying the Islamic party should instead reflect on how its lack of support from non-Malays is keeping it from its goal of capturing Putrajaya.
Speaking to FMT, Azmi Hassan of Akademi Nusantara acknowledged that PAS leads the state governments in Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah and Perlis.
However, he said the party’s main goal should be to win power at the federal level.
Without the support of the non-Malays, including those in Sabah and Sarawak, he said, any hope PAS had of governing the country might remain a “daydream”.
“Perikatan Nasional (PN) is in a bad state (due to non-Malay support), even worse than Umno,” he said.

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has frozen several bank accounts believed to hold tens of millions of ringgit belonging to a businessman with a Tan Sri title, an agency source said.
According to the source, the action was taken following MACC’s investigation into a contract awarded to a government vehicle supplier in July 2023.
The source said MACC also raided the businessman’s residence and company, retrieving financial documents that could aid the investigation.
“More than 100 private accounts and companies, worth millions of ringgit under the control of the Tan Sri in question, have been analysed to observe trends in fund transfers to specific individuals.

After ridding pension scheme for new civil servants, the next step is to undo politicians’ multiple pensions
![[Image: ciemr_1553692627.jpg]](https://assets.nst.com.my/images/articles/ciemr_1553692627.jpg)
FROM Feb 1, the new recruits into the country’s civil service will have to say goodbye to the pension system. Alternatively, they will be placed on contract system of employment with contributions to the Employees Provident Fund (EPF).
By placing civil servants on a fixed term, the contract system of employment will scrutinise their progress.
I understand that civil servants already under the pension scheme will continue in the same scheme. The placement of new recruits into the civil service would not affect the 900,000 former civil service employees.
At about 1.7 million, Malaysia’s civil service is one of the most bloated civil services in the world. The announcement on civil service reform is nothing new. Proposals for reforms have been in the air for a long time. It is just that the past governments did not have the political will to introduce the changes.
While the complete proposal of the changes is not clear, what is obvious is that new recruits to the civil service will not be placed on the pension system.
