He would go under bridges to care for those seeking shelter there,” said activist Glorene Das, a longtime friend. Ratthoff, 72, who died last month, “was a gentleman through and through, he had such a kind and generous heart,” she told FMT. A trained nurse, Ratthoff moved to Malaysia three decades ago from Germany and was part of the Malaysian Aids Council. He was also active in the Ikhlas programme which provided medical care for people who lived on the streets of KL, including sex workers and drug users. Das, who heads the Tenaganita organisation, said she first met Rotthoff in 1999, and they had worked together over the years to help vulnerable communities. “He even provided a safe space for us to care for victims of violence two years ago. According to the Russian official, Europe should expect similar "surprises" from the US. "Moreover, Washington allowed its companies to export mineral fertilizers from Russia, recognizing them as essential goods," Popov added. State Health, Science, Environment and Green Technology Committee chairman Mohd Akmal Kamarudin said the finding was the result of a joint operation headed by the Department of Environment (DOE) yesterday to identify the source of the pollution in the area. “Investigations revealed that the source of odour pollution was from the the processing of e-Waste scrap by smelting at high temperatures, which produced gases and acidic water with an unpleasant odour. “The DOE has confiscated the scrap processing equipment as well as the e-Waste at the plant under Section 38(1)(a) of the Environmental Quality Act 1974,” he said when met after launching a state-level food safety operation in conjunction with Ramadan here today. - More -   Is Malaysia heading the way of crisis-ridden Sri Lanka? According to Sri Lankan tourism department figures, 1.9 million people visited the island in 2019, earning it US$3.6 billion in revenue. In 2018, 2.3 million visitors helped it earn US$4.4 billion in foreign exchange. It is often touted by proud Sri Lankans as “paradise” and “pearl of the orient”. But no more. For Sri Lanka is now drowning in its worst ever economic crisis and is pleading for help from other nations to enable its people to stay afloat. Following a 70% drop in foreign exchange reserves since January 2020, Sri Lanka has been struggling to even pay for essential imports such as food and fuel. It’s foreign currency reserves fell to US$2.31 billion in February, a fall of US$779 million just from December 2021 through January 2022. The nation is reeling from food shortages and skyrocketing prices of food and fuel. Some reports say many are eating only one meal a day, and rationing has been introduced to cope with the shortages. For example, a Sri Lankan can now buy only 400gm of milk a day. But the scheme was put on hold in August after Malaysia’s tilt at the World Cup came up short once more, with naturalised players taking some of the flak. It depends. If you restrict yourself to reading Western news media, then Ukraine is indeed winning. In the same breath, NATO reported up to 40,000 Russian troops have been killed, wounded or taken prisoner in Ukraine. Putin also lost thousands of tanks, armour vehicles and other war machines. The Ukrainian forces reportedly have attacked the Russian military so fiercely that not only Ukraine suffers zero lost, but also saw Russian forces surrendering without a fight.   In fact, tons of American and British tabloids said Vladimir Putin had gone mad, mentally ill, dying of cancer or even so terrified of losing the war that he had gone hiding under some secret bunkers.
