PETALING JAYA: Abdul Hadi Awang’s office has denied that the PAS president had ever called PKR president Anwar Ibrahim a Freemason.
In a statement, Hadi’s office said these accusations were baseless and the party rejected such political slander.
“We were called upon to deny this allegation and state on record that the PAS president has never said this,” it said.
During a speech yesterday, Anwar, in an attempt to demonstrate that Hadi’s words should not be taken at face value, claimed that he had been called a Freemason.

PETALING JAYA: Larry Sng insists he is still the president of Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) and will be signing the watikah (appointment letter of candidates) in the 15th general election (GE15).
“All previous announcements made by party leaders are just mere speculation,” the former Julau MP said in a Facebook post.
“The official announcement will be made by myself, and only I will sign the watikah for PBM in GE15.”
Stating that he had not resigned from his position or relinquished his party membership, Sng said that he would be contesting GE15 on PBM’s ticket.

SWITCHING constituencies is a healthy practice that should be welcomed in order to curb the widespread of localism and provincialism among political parties while at the same time, make Malaysia a more united country.
In defending such practice, veteran journalist and blogger Datuk A. Kadir Jasin said political parties such as DAP, PKR, PAS and Amanah have leveraged the concept quite widely and successfully for a long time.
“Even UMNO practiced it in the early years of independence. Candidates from outside the district and even the state contested and won,” penned the former Bersatu supreme council member in his latest Facebook post.
“For example the late (Tan Sri) Fatimah Hashim who hailed from Muar (Johor) won the Jitra-Kuala Nerang seat in Kedah during the 1959 and 1964 general elections, and was later appointed as Social Welfare Minister.”
But alas, year after year, Kadir observed that UMNO has become more and more parochial (regional) to the point that even leaders from adjacent districts are not accepted.

Tech war: US officials said to start talks with Chinese chip equipment maker Naura Technology Group over new export restrictions
- US trade officials from the American embassy in Beijing initiated talks with Naura executives at the firm’s headquarters in the nation’s capital
- The meeting was held weeks after a subsidiary of the company was added to Washington’s trade watch list
United States government officials have initiated talks with China’s leading supplier of semiconductor manufacturing equipment about Washington’s latest hi-tech export restrictions, according to a person with knowledge of the matter.
US trade officials from the American embassy in Beijing held talks with executives of Naura Technology Group last week at the Chinese company’s headquarters in the nation’s capital, according to the person, who declined to be named because the discussions were private.
The meeting came weeks after a Naura subsidiary, Beijing Naura Magnetoelectric Technology, was among 31 Chinese tech firms, research institutions and related entities added by Washington to the US Unverified List (UVL).

LONDON – Former finance minister Rishi Sunak today won the battle for leader of Britain’s Conservative party and will become the country’s first prime minister of colour.
Penny Mordaunt, the last rival left after Boris Johnson dramatically pulled out, failed to secure the necessary 100 nominations from her fellow MPs.
“Rishi Sunak is therefore elected as leader of the Conservative party,” senior backbencher Graham Brady said, as Mordaunt pledged her “full support” for Sunak.
Sunak’s triumph came after Johnson’s decision late Sunday to abandon his political comeback bid.
Just weeks after he lost out to Liz Truss to lead the ruling Tories, Sunak therefore pulled off a stunning reversal in fortunes.
