CATL's 'price war' shows its power, and China's EV edge
Posted by: superadmin - 02-27-2023, 11:42 AM - Forum: Business, Economy and Investment - No Replies

SHANGHAI/LONDON (Feb 27): CATL, the world's largest battery maker, has offered to cut costs for Chinese automakers, a move that demonstrates its market power and could also widen China's cost advantage in electric vehicles.

China's CATL has offered smaller domestic electric-vehicle makers discounted prices on batteries, according to four people with knowledge of the terms.

The discount offers included a clause that shocked the auto industry after a year of rising prices: a built-in assumption that prices of lithium carbonate, a key component in auto batteries, would more than halve, three of the people said. The move shows CATL's cost advantage from its investments in lithium mining and refining, and its determination to knock back the challenge from smaller Chinese rivals such as CALB and EVE Energy which have factories ramping up this year, analysts said.

‘Good governance steps in Budget 2023 commendable, but follow-ups necessary’
Posted by: superadmin - 02-27-2023, 11:22 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

KUALA LUMPUR – Although Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s revised Budget 2023 has commendable promises on good governance and anti-corruption efforts, they will only bear fruition if translated into actual actions, said anti-graft watchdogs.

Transparency International Malaysia (TI-M) president Muhammad Mohan said besides apparent steps in the war against corruption, tangible outcomes of such measures should also be presented to citizens.

“Such transparent disclosures will result in positive perception towards the government’s commitment to combat corrupt practices, while allowing the people to judge for themselves the actions undertaken by (Anwar’s) administration,” he told The Vibes.

Referencing Putrajaya’s cancellation of the RM7 billion Jana Wibawa project that was awarded under direct negotiation by previous administrations, Muhammad said the “positive” decision should be coupled with follow-up details.

Battle Islamophobia by presenting Islam under a positive light: Zambry
Posted by: superadmin - 02-27-2023, 11:19 AM - Forum: Stop Racism and Religious Bigotry - No Replies

PUTRAJAYA – It is the collective responsibility of the ummah to not only defend Islam but also present the image of the religion positively to showcase its beauty and true values, said Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir.

As such, Zambry said, Malaysia is ready to strengthen bilateral and regional cooperation with Indonesia and Brunei, as well as through multilateral forums, in matters of great importance to Muslims.

“I am very concerned that there is no strong and united response from the Muslim world to fight against Islamophobia.

“The ‘silence’ that permeates among us is truly a worrying trend. Together, the Muslim world has a large number of resources at its disposal.

“However, there is a lack of a holistic strategy to mobilise these resources to create change,” he said during a forum titled “Islam dan Islamofobia: Ke Arah Libat Urus Bermakna Menerusi Pendekatan Madani” held at the Prime Minister’s Department, here, today.

RM10 bil diesel subsidy misuse: govt ready to rope in MACC, police for probe
Posted by: superadmin - 02-27-2023, 09:23 AM - Forum: Business. Economy and Investment - No Replies

[Image: 20221220_-Salahuddin_Ayub_walkabout_at_P...RAHMAN.JPG]

PASIR GUDANG – The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry will allow the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) or police to carry out the appropriate investigation into the misappropriation of diesel subsidies of about RM10 billion.

Its minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub said such action is necessary if an internal investigation carried out by the ministry reveals that there has been a breach in the procedures during the past.

“Normally, the ministry will carry out an internal investigation first because we have an unit that will audit and investigate such offences. However, if there is a serious offence, we have no problem in referring the case to police or MACC.

“We will offer our full cooperation to ensure such misappropriation does not occur. This is because we do not want the issue to prolong when the budget is tabled in the future.

The success story behind the Menu Rahmah

SEVERAL MPs from the Opposition Perikatan Nasional (PN) have been heavily criticising the government’s food programme and have made Hansard history by linking it to various illnesses.

But it appears that the idea behind the Menu Rahmah is catching on with the population and is a hit for some restaurants.

A Facebook user recently posted their version of the Menu Rahmah, saying that it is a total success for their business.

Budget 2023 unlikely to influence voters for upcoming state polls: analysts
Posted by: superadmin - 02-26-2023, 02:18 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: 20230225-Anwar_Ibrahim_with_budget_2023_...IF_011.JPG]

KUALA LUMPUR – Neither the unity government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim nor the opposition should take Budget 2023 as an opportunity to rest on its laurels for the upcoming elections in six states, said political analysts.

Noting that voters are unlikely to be swayed from their political stance by the offerings or lack thereof in the budget, they also said Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Anwar and his administration should remain on their toes going into the state elections.

The heads of the governments of Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Penang, Kedah, Kelantan, and Terengganu had recently agreed to consider dissolving their respective state assemblies in the last two weeks of June.

For National Council of Professors senior fellow Prof Jeniri Amir, the budget will probably be understood as a presentation of how Putrajaya intends to aid citizens instead of a showy display of election goodies.

“The focus of the budget is on actions (set to be taken by the government) on how to revive the economy after the Covid-19 pandemic, with an emphasis on reducing the burden faced by the people because of an economic crisis.
