Would you attend a politician’s open house?
Posted by: superadmin - 04-29-2023, 10:40 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

Open houses are not peculiar to the Malays. During festivals, they and the other races welcome family and friends to enjoy home-cooked traditional delicacies, exchange pleasantries, and hand over hampers, duit raya or ang pows.

Festive open houses held by politicians have also been around for decades, and are organised by leaders from both sides of the political divide.

Despite what they may claim, these politicians cannot deny that there is always a political element in welcoming the public to their official home. The politician will declare that it is the opportunity for the rakyat to meet their leader, shake his hand, and celebrate the festive occasion with him.

The member of the public may claim that he wants to meet the leader, gawp and gape at his home, and enjoy a free meal, but he will have to take his place in the queue and be prepared to stay in line for a few hours before he gets to meet the host.

US regulators admit lapses as banking crisis reverberates
Posted by: superadmin - 04-29-2023, 10:22 AM - Forum: Business, Economy and Investment - No Replies

WASHINGTON: US regulators today put large banks on notice that tougher oversight is coming, after the Federal Reserve and Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation detailed their supervisory lapses before deposit runs caused the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank and Signature Bank in March.

Though the banking sector broadly has since stabilised, the far-reaching impact of the failures of those two large regional banks was felt yesterday as an even larger lender, First Republic Bank, teetered on the brink of collapse.

Regulators were preparing to shut San Francisco-based First Republic, a person familiar with the matter told Reuters.

15 MPs Ready To Resign – But Here’re Problems With Mahathir & Daim’s Plan

15 MPs Ready To Resign – But Here’re Problems With Mahathir & Daim’s Plan To Splash Billions To Topple PM Anwar
[Image: Muhyiddin-Yassin-and-Hadi-Awang-Racist-Bigots.jpg]

Unable to persuade UMNO president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to ditch 10th Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Opposition Perikatan Nasional had tried – and failed – to topple Zahid during the internal party election last month. With most of Zahid loyalists controlling the United Malays National Organization (UMNO), the Unity Government appears unshakable.

About a week ago, former PM Muhyiddin Yassin’s effort to unfreeze his party’s accounts in CIMB and Ambank was torpedoed when Bersatu (Malaysian United Indigenous Party) accounts have been seized entirely. The move to freeze the accounts on January 12 and 13 under Section 44 of anti-money laundering and anti-terrorism financing was only valid for 90 days.

However, effective April 11, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) confirmed that the frozen accounts have been seized. Following four counts of abuse of power and two counts of money laundering slapped on Muhyiddin on March 10, the Section 50 instead of Section 44 goes into effect. In short, Bersatu is screwed because it will not be able to access its money.

“PAS is solely to blame for the sorry state of Kelantan today”
Posted by: superadmin - 04-28-2023, 02:34 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

WHO is responsible for the poor water quality, narrow and potholed road and uncollected garbage in Kelantan if it is not PAS which had govern Kelantan for over half a century?

Recently, there was a desultory controversy over the poor water quality, narrow and potholed road and uncollected garbage in Kelantan between the Community Communication Department (J-KOM) director-general Datuk Dr Mohammad Agus Yusoff and the Kelantan PAS Youth which did not produce any answers.

The question remains valid and open as to who is responsible for the poor water quality, narrow and potholed road and uncollected garbage in Kelantan if not PAS which had governed Kelantan for over half a century.

KUALA LUMPUR – An Indian nasi lemak seller was thrust into the public limelight after videos promoting her array of dishes went viral online, causing throngs of eager customers to queue hundreds of metres to sample the home-cooked menu.

The seller, identified only as Sangeetha, operates a humble stall in Seri Kembangan and has garnered a large following of loyal patrons willing to line-up for hours for a chance to try her nasi lemak and other dishes such as squid sambal, chicken rendang, and quail egg sambal.

While Sangeetha, who refers to herself as “Akka Nasi Lemak” (Nasi Lemak Sister), had set up shop in the area about a decade ago, her stall recently gained popularity after food blog KL Foodie posted a video on TikTok reviewing local cuisine.

The video was then shared to Twitter by user @jllmisai, whose tweet has received over 1,560 retweets and nearly 5,000 likes as of press time.

Explain upcoming meet with Umno, MCA tells DAP after seat negotiation snub
Posted by: superadmin - 04-28-2023, 02:21 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

KUALA LUMPUR – MCA has reminded Penang Pakatan Harapan (PH) chief Chow Kon Yeow to include every component party in the unity government in its seat negotiations ahead of the coming state election.

Penang MCA chairman Datuk Tan Teik Cheng slammed DAP’s Chow for discussing seats only with Umno, saying that it is “not in line with the spirit of the unity government”.

“Discussions about seats for the upcoming state election should be between Barisan Nasional and PH, inclusive of all component parties from both coalitions, and the final decision made by the top leadership of the unity government,” he said in a statement.

BN agrees to back unity govt: Zambry
Posted by: superadmin - 04-28-2023, 12:40 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: 22112022_-_PWTC_Barisan_Nasional_BN_-_SYEDA_IMRAN4.jpg]

KUALA LUMPUR – The Barisan Nasional (BN) Supreme Council, at its meeting last night, unanimously agreed to back the unity government.

BN secretary-general Datuk Seri Zambry Abd Kadir said the meeting, held at the Kuala Lumpur World Trade Centre (WTC KL), was chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also BN chairman, and attended by all BN component parties.

He said the meeting made a resolution on BN’s commitment to jointly develop and continue to implement the people’s policy agenda, and called on all leaders from various walks of life to maintain unity and harmony to ensure political stability in the country.

“The BN Supreme Council has also been informed about the party’s preparations for the six state elections, namely Kedah, Penang, Kelantan, Terengganu, Selangor, and Negri Sembilan.

“Discussions also involve the cooperation model between BN and parties in the unity government,” he said in a statement shared on the BN Facebook page.

Is the government just playing monopoly?
Posted by: superadmin - 04-28-2023, 07:26 AM - Forum: Business. Economy and Investment - No Replies

With the government currently pushing for more competition and hence, fewer monopolies in Malaysia, (Puspakom and Touch & Go are recent examples), it is natural to ask why so many monopolies were created in the first place.

Monopolies emerge for many reasons. For example the TNB monopoly in power distribution is a “natural monopoly” because it is too expensive to build two competitive electricity distribution systems. This justifies one provider.

Some, such as the Bernas rice monopoly, are created by policy. There is no real economic reason why many companies could not supply rice.
