As Muhyiddin’s critics swell in Umno, analysts question how much longer Perikatan rule can last
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 19 — Speculation that Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s hold on power is diminishing has been gaining momentum in recent weeks as Umno warlords push their leaders to disassociate the party from the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government.
In the past week, discontent against Muhyiddin has been swelling within Umno. One veteran lawmaker has backed calls for a no-confidence motion to be tabled against the PM when Parliament reconvenes in two more weeks.
On the back of this is a letter circulating on social media over the weekend that mentioned Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi purporting Umno’s full support for Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar to replace Muhyiddin.

Happy
It might seem crazy what I'm 'bout to say
Sunshine she's here, you can take a break
I'm a hot air balloon that could go to space
With the air, like I don't care baby by the way
Huh, because I'm happy
Clap along if you feel like a room without a roof
Because I'm happy
Clap along if you feel like happiness is the truth
Because I'm happy
Clap along if you know what happiness is to you
Because I'm happy
Clap along if you feel like that's what you wanna do
Here come bad news, talking this and that
(Yeah) Well, give me all you got, and don't hold it back
(Yeah) Well, I should probably warn you I'll be just fine
(Yeah) No offense to you, don't waste your time
Here's why
Because I'm happy
Clap along if you feel like a room without a roof
Because I'm happy

PETALING JAYA: DAP MP Teresa Kok has hit back at Najib Razak after the former prime minister spoke out against her party for blaming Umno for the spike in Covid-19 cases after the Sabah polls.
She questioned why Najib was laying the blame on her party now when he had previously blamed the National Security Council (MKN) for rejecting Health Minister Dr Adham Baba’s suggestion of mandatory quarantine for those returning from Sabah.
She added that Najib had also previously urged Umno to retract support for PPBM because of the blame his party was getting over the surge in Covid-19 cases.
“Najib also blamed Home Minister Hamzah Zainudin for not properly isolating prisoners or observing the SOPs which caused the clusters in several detention centres in Kedah, Perak and Penang.

PETALING JAYA: Umno vice-president Khaled Nordin has urged Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin to make the right “decision” to maintain the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government, saying his party wants to be treated as a real partner in the current administration.
Khaled said Umno’s priority was to continue defending the PN government which it helped form, although it had other options —whether to bring down the current administration or make way for a general election.
“But (a general election) is Umno’s last choice because of the pandemic. Umno will not gamble with the safety, health and welfare of the people by going for elections.
“Umno’s priority is to form a government that is truly capable of managing the country in this crisis. And for that, Umno wants to be respected as a real partner in this political cooperation.

MELAKA, Oct 18 — There is no need for a Cabinet reshuffle at the moment as the current government is functioning well, especially with the country still fighting against the spread of Covid-19, said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Special Functions) Datuk Seri Mohd Redzuan Md Yusof.
He said the rumours of a Cabinet reshuffle that had been spread could have been a personal statement made by some leaders, and did not represent any party in Perikatan Nasional (PN).
“I had a meeting with the Prime Minister (Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin) yesterday and during the discussion, we do not see the need for a Cabinet reshuffle at the moment.
“When the time the Cabinet is seen not functioning well, then the decision to reshuffle the Cabinet can be made. So there is no need to pressure the prime minister to reshuffle the Cabinet,” he told reporters after a dinner with members of the print and electronic media in Melaka here yesterday.

Report: Cabinet reshuffle imminent as Perikatan government seeks to appease a restless Umno
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 18 — The Perikatan Nasional (PN) administration is thought to be mulling a Cabinet reshuffle that could see more Umno lawmakers within its ranks, reported Mingguan Malaysia.
Quoting an unnamed source, the Sunday edition of Utusan Malaysia reported the aim of the move would be to secure Umno’s support for the PN coalition.
Mingguan Malaysia added that the Cabinet reshuffle could take place as soon as tomorrow.
The issue of a lack of Umno representation in the Cabinet, where its lawmakers do not hold key portfolios, has been a thorn in the party’s side.
