Beijing's first snow came 23 days earlier this winter season, and the temperature in the capital may hit a 10-year record low, which has led to the suspension of buses, as well as cancellation of flights and trains.

COVID-19-affected regions will operate special snow and ice shoveling standards -snow in the epidemic-related enclosed and controlled area will be stacked and dissipated on the spot in the enclosed area, and it is not allowed to be transported out of the area, according to the Beijing Municipal Management Committee.

The committee said the city has made all-out preparations in advance. Standby personnel of 56,000, a reserve of 33,000 tons of snow melting agent and 30,000 tons of snow melting fluid were ready to carry out snow removal.

Capital International Airport plans to take off and land 494 flights on Sunday. As of 8 am, 63 flights have been executed and 10 flights have been cancelled. The airport has activated first level responding mechanism to ensure the safe travel of passengers. The Daxing airport had adjusted the planned flights to 222 on Sunday.

As many Chinese celebrate the first snow of the winter season on Earth, the heroes of the Shenzhou-13 crew are setting new national milestones in space, with mission commander and the country’s first spacewalker Zhai Zhigang and his fellow female taikonaut Wang Yaping stepping out of the node cabin of the Tianhe space station core module on Sunday evening to carry out the crew’s first extravehicular activities (EVA). Wang has officially become the first Chinese woman ever to execute a spacewalk mission.

Wang’s achievement has expanded the team of global female astronauts who have done spacewalks. Before Wang, as of October 2019, a total of 15 women had participated in 42 spacewalks since 1984, when cosmonaut Svetlana Savitskaya became the first woman to walk in space.

Women’s participation in EVA is an integral part of manned space, and we are witnessing history thanks to Wang’s bravery, Yang Yuguang, Vice Chair of Space Transportation Committee for International Astronautical Federation, told the Global Times on Sunday.

BN, Perikatan in bed with enemies, which is each other: Anwar
Posted by: superadmin - 11-07-2021, 06:53 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: 28112020-KUL-anwar_ibrahim_13-SAIRIEN.jpg]

KUALA LUMPUR – Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has described the relationship between Barisan Nasional (BN) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) as “helter-skelter” (caca marba) seeing how they are cooperating at the federal level but will go at each other’s throats in Melaka.

Speaking in a Nadi Rakyat video today, the PKR president pointed out that with this sort of attitude, Melakans should vote in a more stable political coalition to ensure political stability in the state.

“This is helter-skelter politics. They are in the same cabinet only because they want to hold on to power but in every other matter, they will fight – including in Melaka. Imagine if BN and PN wins. We’ll just be waiting for them to stab each other.

“So, for me, when it comes to the economy and development, the people of Melaka must choose a coalition that can guarantee stability and good governance,” said Anwar.

All talk, no action: women make up mere 16% of Melaka candidates
Posted by: superadmin - 11-07-2021, 06:49 PM - Forum: Stop Gender Inequality - No Replies

[Image: 07092021_-_KUL_-_Mas_Ermieyati_Samsudin_...ien-26.jpg]

AYER KEROH – So much for the bluster on women empowerment, as this has not been reflected in the number of female candidates being fielded in Melaka.

Despite all the talk and commitment for better gender representation by both sides of the political divide over the years, women make up a measly number in the candidate pool for the Melaka election.

Of the 91 individuals who have announced their candidacies so far, including politicians from 10 parties and two independents, there are only 15 women in the field.

This is a paltry 16.5%, a far cry from the 30% often talked about by the parties.

According to Election Commission data, women account for 51.43% of the voters in the state.

On the government front, which comprises from Barisan Nasional (BN) and Perikatan Nasional (PN), only 11 women have been put forward as candidates.

KUALA LUMPUR: Pro-Anwar Ibrahim group Otai Reformis is split over Pakatan Harapan’s decision to field two former Melaka assemblymen in the Nov 20 state election.

Yesterday, Anwar announced that former Melaka chief minister Idris Haron will stand as a PKR candidate, and Nor Azman Hassan as an Amanah candidate, in the polls.

Idris and Nor Azman are two of the four Melaka assemblymen who triggered the election after withdrawing their support for chief minister Sulaiman Md Ali on Oct 4.

PAS has no plans to leave MN, reiterates deputy president
Posted by: superadmin - 11-07-2021, 06:34 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: 01-TIMBALAN-PRESIDEN-PAS-IBRAHIM-MAN.jpg]

KUALA TERENGGANU: PAS said today it has no plans to leave Muafakat Nasional – its alliance with Umno – despite locking horns with the party in the upcoming Melaka state election.

PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said Muafakat Nasional (MN) had a bigger agenda to unite Malays and Muslims as a whole, and the party would not quit MN unless it was dissolved.

“We hope that Muafakat Nasional can go back to its original intention, which is to unite the ummah. We also want to bring more non-governmental organisations back to MN,” he said at a press conference at the end of the PAS muktamar here today.

Tuan Ibrahim dismissed a claim by Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah that MN was already “buried”, saying the Umno veteran was “not involved in MN”.

Met by reporters after the party’s muktamar here, Nik Abduh accepted the defeat and said he relished having fewer responsibilities now.

“I congratulate my friends who have won. I feel it is a big burden that I have let go. I will continue to assist the party wherever possible,” he said.

Do away with politics, race in Budget matters to affect real economic growth: experts
Posted by: superadmin - 11-07-2021, 12:35 PM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

[Image: 06102020-KUL-_construction_workers_forei...ixabay.jpg]

GEORGE TOWN – The real economic potential of the country can only be unlocked if Putrajaya is willing to push ahead with a federal budget that is equitable and based on competencies, rather than just race and politics.

Two technocrats shared their views that Budget 2022 may generate growth on paper, but its benefits will likely not trickle down to the groups who need it most.

With the economy still looking sluggish as the country emerges from lockdowns, there is a need for a budget that is evenly distributed among its productive sectors, instead of just channelling aid to areas that may not really need it, they said.

To an extent, it keeps the poor impoverished, said former economic adviser to the prime minister Muhammed Abdul Khalid.

He said while race still matters in ensuring equitable growth, it must be properly targeted.

One example he cited was the huge deficit in allocations between the Bumiputera and non-Bumiputera groups.

Some RM11.4 billion has been allocated to the Bumiputeras compared with just RM345 million to the Chinese and Indian communities put together.

“We have not even reached the other minorities yet.

Emulate Jokowi for a better Malaysian future
Posted by: superadmin - 11-07-2021, 11:31 AM - Forum: Politics - No Replies

Somebody from Singapore recently wrote a very flattering piece on President Jokowi of Indonesia.

Perhaps unknown to many Malaysians who still look at Indonesia as an exporter of maids and factory workers, the country has made huge strides in its economic and social development.

Jokowi is clearly a key reason for their success.

We always thrash leaders when things go badly, and it’s only fair we credit them when things go well. Jokowi certainly deserves much credit.

Indonesia started its life as a modern nation the hard way. They fought a war of independence against the Dutch that lasted for years, and they paid heavily for it with their blood.

When somebody in Indonesia claims to be a freedom fighter, it means more than him having gone to Amsterdam to have some independence discussions over herring and cheese. It means he was in a shooting war.

After independence Indonesians had a strongman president – Sukarno – who actually carried out an armed confrontation, called Konfrontasi (possibly from confrontatie in Dutch) to stop the formation of Malaysia in 1963.
