Concerns Over Inadequate Investigation of Tiger Poaching
#1
The alarming fact is that tiger poaching continues unabated, and the tiger conservation department has failed to stop it. Not only have they failed, but in many cases, they haven’t even tried to thoroughly investigate these incidents. The era of headline and perception management has also affected India's tigers. The common belief is that significant work has been done for tiger conservation in the past decade, leading to an increase in tiger numbers. However, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) report reveals a different story. The report highlights ongoing tiger deaths due to inadequate investigation, post-mortem flaws, and negligence in treatment.

The SIT was formed to investigate the deaths of 43 tigers between 2021-23 in Madhya Pradesh's Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve and Shahdol Forest Division. The findings, now leaked to the media, show that in at least ten cases, investigations were insufficient. Officers showed little interest in finding the missing body parts of the tigers. In some cases, tigers died due to electrocution. In 17 cases, officials blamed inter-tiger fights without reaching the real cause. The Chief Wildlife Warden has acknowledged the report's exposure of significant conservation flaws, although they deny the presence of an organized poaching syndicate. The fact remains that tiger poaching occurred, and the conservation department failed to address it adequately. Whether the killings are by organized gangs or individual criminals, it makes little difference. With the SIT highlighting conservation flaws, it's imperative for officials to focus on correcting these issues rather than making excuses. For more insights, follow the latest news in Hindi.
