Optimism on regaining lost Malay ground for PH-BN

GEORGE TOWN – The national unity alliance must be prepared to rule a Malaysia which is now separated into four regional political groups, for the next five years.

Regionalism politics has now taken root – with four zones, namely the east coast Malaysian states which also encompass Perlis and Kedah; Sabah; Sarawak; and the unity region of the peninsular west coast stretching from Penang onwards, said DAP strategist Liew Chin Tong.

Liew said that it is not all gloom and doom for Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional who share power with their Sabah and Sarawak counterparts.

“Despite that some quarters are saying that the Malay ground is lost, I think 40% of the dominant voter group remains entrenched with the unity alliance,” he said after yesterday’s elections.

The 40% are visible in states such as Penang, Perak, Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Melaka and Johor, while the Bumiputeras of Sabah and Sarawak also support the concept that the best way forward is a politics of progress based on the principles of unity and tolerance, said Liew.

PH supporters want the coalition to stop wooing conservatives

IN the aftermath of the massive state elections, the shock is evident among Selangor Pakatan Harapan (PH) voters who are finding it hard to digest the loss of 22 seats to the Perikatan Nasional (PN) and PAS.

They are saying it is now a wake-up call for PH in particular and are urging Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to move away from wooing conservatives in the country and to focus instead on his core voter base.

The debate was started by Bangi MP Syahredzan Johan who posted a brief post-mortem of the mixed results for the PH in Selangor.

Malay voters’ suspicions about DAP undid Anwar’s efforts, says analyst

PETALING JAYA: Suspicions held by Malay voters towards DAP neutralised Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s efforts to show his government was still championing the Malay-Muslim cause, an analyst said.

Mazlan Ali of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia said the stern action taken against those purportedly pushing the LGBTQ agenda, including the seizure of Swatch’s Pride collection watches, failed to convince the Malay electorate.

“The majority of the Malays are still suspicious of DAP, even though lately, the party seems to be more moderate in handling political issues,” he told FMT.
