PETALING JAYA: Muslim politicians have been reminded not to be “extreme and fanatical” while campaigning ahead of next month’s state elections.

In making the call, Penang mufti Wan Salim Wan Mohd Noor said moderation and civility should be observed when campaigning.

“I would like to urge all politicians to adopt a moderate and respectful approach when conducting their campaigns,” he said in a statement.

“Campaign with politeness, uphold good manners and morals, and refrain from insulting, cursing, and defaming any individual solely because of political differences.

“Specifically for Muslim politicians, I would like to warn them not to be extreme and fanatical. This includes refraining from praying for the destruction of fellow believers, and even fellow countrymen of different religions.”
