FreeMalaysiaToday (FMT) is pleased to announce, effective February, the appointment of several key personnel who have been brought on board to steer the company to the next level of growth.

Al-Ishsal Ishak – Chairman
Al-Ishsal Ishak has a wealth of knowledge and experience spanning 29 years across a myriad of industry sectors. Ishsal was Chairman of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

Prior to MCMC, he was Group CEO at Pos Malaysia Bhd. Ishal, who holds a Bachelor of Management (Honours) from Universiti Sains Malaysia and was a Japan Airlines summer scholarship beneficiary at Sophia University, Tokyo, began his career in 1992 with Turnaround Managers Inc.

A few years later, he found his calling as a serial entrepreneur in the then emerging Internet sector until 2008.

He then went on to hold a string of senior appointments in various organisations – as Chief Digital Officer of McCann Ericsson Worldgroup, Chief Executive Officer of Baraka Telecom, Senior Vice President, Marketing & Products at Malaysia Airlines Berhad, Group Head Ancillary Income of AirAsia and various senior positions in the Tune Group.

Before helming Pos Malaysia, Ishsal was the Managing Director, South East Asia for a fintech start-up, ECO Capacity Exchange Ltd (United Kingdom), as well as a trainer and consultant for Airbus Group (France).

He was formerly on the Board of Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), and a member of the National Information Technology Council (NITC).

Azeem Abu Bakar – Managing Director
Azeem, holds a BSc (Hons) degree in Accounting & Finance, from the London School of Economics (LSE).

He co-founded a media analytics and open-source intelligence company in London, a passion that was to be his trait as he blazed new trails in the digital media and software industries for 10 years.

He was involved in several business ventures across multiple sectors including finance, real estate, media, education and technology where he played a key role in developing businesses, as well as crafting and negotiating deals.

Prior to joining FMT, Azeem was with UEM Group and UEM Sunrise Berhad for eight years, and was Special Officer to the Managing Director with oversight on business development, finance and strategic planning.
