KUALA LUMPUR – A news bulletin on Awesome TV’s Berita 7:57 is being panned on social media for its racist editorial stance after urging Malay voters to vote in full force in the coming general election (GE15) to prevent political power from falling into non-Malay hands.

A clip of the broadcast dated November 3 shows two news anchors saying Malay voters should fulfil their duty by voting to prevent the rise of non-Malay politicians.

They also cite data by the Huayan Policy Institute Centre for Malaysian Chinese Studies that said 80% of Chinese voters are expected to cast their ballots, while around 10% do not intend to in the November 19 polls.

Anti-racism NGO rubbishes Awesome TV’s denial of racist intent in its news bulletin
[Image: Awesome-TV.jpg]

KUALA LUMPUR-based non-governmental organisation (NGO), the Global Human Rights Federation (GHRF), is unconvinced with the statement of defence by broadcast station Awesome TV that its Berita 7:57 news content was only informative in nature to its target audience.

Its president S. Shashi Kumar said remarks made in the news bulletin “is obviously seditious and provocative” even as the station claimed that its intention was only to inform Malay voters that the new government may not be to their preference, hence affect their welfare if they do not vote.

“The report is to reinforce responsibilities among Malays that they need to exercise their rights as citizens and voters,” a spokesman of the station explained in a short statement made available to Malay Mail.

Who’s who behind controversial Awesome TV, insight into its biz operations
[Image: Datuk-Ilyas-Pakeer-318x375.jpg]

REMEMBER the person who labelled KPMG “a shoplot auditor” at the height of the legal tussle between Serba Dinamik Holdings Bhd and its external auditor in June last year?

Well, Datuk Ilyas Pakeer Mohammed who was the then chairman of the financially strapped global integrated oil & gas outfit is also the director of Awesome Media Network Sdn Bhd, the holding company of Awesome TV which has been accused of propagating racist slur in a recent news reporting.

Recall that on Sunday (Nov 6), former Klang MP Charles Santiago has berated the free to air channel that’s broadcast on Astro Channel 123 and MyTV for its racist to the core” and seemingly “fear mongering” 1:41 news clip on the 15th General Election (GE15) aired via its Berita 7:57 segment.
