Pact against ‘arrogant’ BN possible – minus DAP, says PAS man

PETALING JAYA: An alliance against the “arrogance” of Umno and Barisan Nasional could come about in the Johor state elections, says a member of the PAS central leadership.

Mahfodz Mohamed, who sits on the central committee, said cooperation between PAS and opposition parties could come about – provided the opposition party is “not extreme” and, if the party is a member of Pakatan Harapan, is ready to leave the DAP behind.

He said Umno had been increasingly keen to sideline PAS, its ally in the Muafakat Nasional pact, the moment Umno leaders returned to power in Putrajaya.

However, Umno should have realised that their comeback after their massive defeat in the 2018 general election had been with the help of PAS, when the former ruling party won many subsequent by-elections.
