PETALING JAYA: PAS will not ditch Bersatu in the coming Johor elections despite their poor performance at the Melaka polls last November under the Perikatan Nasional banner, said a political analyst.|
Political observer Mohd Sayuti Omar said Bersatu is perceived as being more transparent and sincere than Umno.
In addition, PAS had a “bad history” with the Barisan Nasional when it was part of the coalition in the 1970s, he said. PAS felt they had been betrayed by Umno, leading to a political impasse in the Kelantan government that developed into protests and an emergency declaration.
PAS was also more trusting of Bersatu because of Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin, who comes from a pious family.
“Kelantan Umno’s decision to break its ties with PAS is all the more reason for PAS to continue working with Bersatu,” he said.
