KUALA LUMPUR – Following feedback from industry players, Putrajaya is now reconsidering the single wholesale network system for the nation’s 5G roll-out.

Communications and Multimedia Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa explained at a press conference today that second opinions from telecommunication companies suggested that there should be more competition in the 5G industry.

“To date, the government decided to adopt a single wholesale network system, whereby Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) provides the 5G infrastructure.

“That was the original plan. Now we have received second opinions and feedback from telco companies who are requiring the roll-out to be more competitive. So we are looking into that,” Annuar said.

The Ketereh MP added that DNB’s roll-out will continue as planned in the meantime. The 5G roll-out is taking place in parts of Klang Valley this month.

“Moving forward, I can’t give you a definite answer because the cabinet is looking at the second opinions.
