MELAKA – Umno is collecting feedback and views from various quarters, including the party leadership and grassroots, before deciding to cooperate with any party or to contest on its own in the Melaka state election.

Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said the matter was still being discussed in the Supreme Council and Umno political bureau meetings yesterday, and that the party would obtain feedback from Melaka and central Umno with a working paper and accuracy study to ensure the party’s victory in the election.

“We do not know when the election will be. We cannot preempt the Election Commission (EC), we do not know when it (cooperation) will be decided.

“Only after EC announces the election date will we make the important decision of whom we want to be with and the form of political understanding.

“There is no need to make a quick decision. We want to win all seats that Umno is contesting, but where we are standing will be decided by the party leadership,” he said.

He was speaking to reporters after a visit to the Barisan Nasional N23 Telok Mas operations room.
